Chainsaw Man: Mangekyo Sharingan

Chapter 117: The Snow Woman’s Temptation

Chapter 117: Chapter 117: The Snow Woman’s Temptation

The young man was wearing a thick down jacket, a warm hat, and a scarf as he struggled forward through the snow.

His clothes were so thick that even with Kotone Asaba’s excellent eyesight, Kotone could only tell he was male. He could not make out his face clearly.

Kotone Asaba did not pay much attention to him and continued thinking about his own matters.

Suddenly, he faintly heard the sound of ice and snow cracking. He immediately turned his head and saw the ice and snow on the mountainside shifting.

This was clearly the start of an avalanche.

Kotone Asaba reacted quickly, but he could not warn the young man ahead of him by shouting. That might make the avalanche even worse.

He could only use his ability, teleporting over and grabbing the young man. In a low voice, he said, "An avalanche is about to happen. Don’t run around."

Someone had suddenly appeared beside him, and the young man’s reaction was slow. He was clearly a little frightened.

The strong wind that came with the avalanche blew the hat off the young man’s head, and the scarf around his neck nearly followed. Because of that, Kotone Asaba finally saw his face clearly. He had spiky hair and looked somewhat familiar.

The avalanche was extremely fast, moving at almost several dozen meters per second / over a hundred feet per second. Before long, it came crashing down with the force of a collapsing mountain and "swallowed" Kotone Asaba and the young man.

In reality, however, Kotone Asaba and the young man were still standing in place. The fierce ice and snow, which felt like a massive army pressing down on them, all passed through their bodies.

This was Kotone Asaba’s phasing ability, which kept both himself and the young man from being affected by the avalanche.

At that moment, Kotone Asaba had already recognized the young man. He was the apprentice Santa Claus had taken in during the original story, the guy named Tolka.

Ice and snow surrounded them on all sides. Apart from that, nothing could be seen.

Tolka had clearly been swallowed by the avalanche, but he could not feel the touch of ice or snow at all.

"What’s going on...?!"

Tolka looked at his own body, as if he suddenly felt like it no longer belonged to him. His face was full of shock as he muttered to himself.

"I helped you avoid the avalanche."

Kotone Asaba explained.

"What do you mean?"

Tolka was still completely confused.

"Have you heard of Devil Hunters? This is my devil power."

Kotone Asaba said calmly.

"Devil Hunters? I’ve heard of them..."

Tolka nodded blankly.

Although the other person was a stranger he had never met before, it was obvious that he should be a good person.

The avalanche continued for several minutes.

Kotone Asaba planned to wait until the avalanche ended before taking action. Finally, the avalanche stopped.

He brought Tolka with him through the thick ice and snow, then let go of Tolka’s shoulder once they were above the snow.

Tolka finally recovered the feeling of standing on solid ground and stood on top of the ice and snow.

Looking at the scene created by the avalanche before him, he immediately felt like he had survived a disaster.

If not for the help of the young man beside him just now, he probably would have died here.

Although he did not have much of a concept of life and death, if he died, then he died. Still, he had to give thanks when thanks were due. "Thank you for saving my life. May I ask your name?"

"My name is Kotone Asaba."

Kotone Asaba answered casually.

"I’m Tolka. I really didn’t expect to run into an avalanche as soon as I arrived here..."

Tolka said.

"This place isn’t exactly a good tourist destination. Are you here for an adventure?"

Kotone Asaba asked.

"Yeah. Life feels pretty boring, so I wanted to adventure around the world. This was originally the first stop I planned, but I didn’t expect something to go wrong on the very first stop. Still, I guess that’s part of the charm of adventure."

Tolka said.

"..."

Kotone Asaba could roughly guess the original script.

If he had not saved Tolka, who knew where the avalanche would have swept him off to? Then, when Tolka was on the verge of death, he probably would have been saved by Santa Claus, and gradually become unable to resist her temptation...

"The avalanche may happen repeatedly after this. Do you want me to take you somewhere safe?"

Kotone Asaba asked.

Tolka was just about to answer when Kotone Asaba spoke again. "All right, the avalanche hasn’t happened again yet, but a devil has appeared instead. I’ll send you away first."

Not far ahead, a devil with an unusual appearance had appeared.

Almost in an instant, Kotone Asaba covered Tolka’s eyes with his hand, then directly transferred him to a street in Berlin. He himself immediately returned to the original spot on the snowy mountain.

On a street with pedestrians coming and going, a young man dressed in a very unusual way suddenly appeared. Quite a bit of snow was still stuck to him.

Many pedestrians could not help looking at Tolka strangely.

Only then did Tolka react. He had been on the snowy mountain just now, so how had he suddenly arrived in some city?

Was it that young man’s devil power again?

After sending Tolka away, Kotone Asaba faced the devil in front of him alone.

The devil before him was actually tiny. It looked like a little mochi dumpling, with a small mouth and a pair of cute, big eyes.

"Little guy, what kind of devil are you?"

Kotone Asaba tested it with a question.

He really could not tell what kind of devil this thing was. It looked like a harmless little cutie, but devils often could not be judged by their appearance.

"Eep."

"Eep?"

Listening to the little thing’s cry, Kotone Asaba could not understand what it meant.

But immediately afterward, he noticed the signs of another avalanche.

He instantly understood. It seemed this little thing was the Avalanche Devil.

It looked harmless, yet one soft cry from it could casually trigger a large-scale avalanche.

The last avalanche had come from the right side. This time, it was the left side’s turn. A suffocating avalanche roared toward him once again.

"I think you should stop wasting your strength. You can’t hurt me at all."

Kotone Asaba calmly used his phasing ability.

Although the Avalanche Devil had triggered an avalanche, it still maintained that adorable appearance without showing any viciousness. It bounced in place, making it look even cuter.

Just like before, no matter how fierce the avalanche was, it could not touch Kotone Asaba in the slightest. All the ice and snow passed through his body.

Kotone Asaba originally wanted to simply kill the Avalanche Devil, but at that moment, he suddenly thought of something.

Hadn’t he wanted to create an accidental encounter?

Wasn’t this the perfect opportunity? There was a chance he could run into Santa Claus by accident, and it would not arouse suspicion.

Thinking of this, Kotone Asaba directly released his phasing state and deliberately allowed himself to be swallowed and swept away by the avalanche.

Although an avalanche was extremely dangerous, that was only for ordinary people. It was still not enough to injure him.

This avalanche lasted for more than ten minutes, even larger in scale than the previous one. Kotone Asaba did not even know where he had been swept off to, and simply let the ice and snow carry him as he tumbled along.

Gradually, the avalanche stopped again.

Kotone Asaba did not know where he was, nor did he know how deeply he had been buried.

Using his phasing ability, he let himself emerge, leaving only his head exposed while the rest of his body was covered by a thin layer of ice and snow.

He deliberately did this, planning to lie there with his eyes closed and rest, then see if he happened to run into Santa Claus.

If it failed, he would think of another way.

However, before long, Kotone Asaba heard footsteps slowly approaching.

He was immediately somewhat surprised. Could he meet Santa Claus this quickly?

Unfortunately, when he narrowed his eyes slightly, he discovered that the person who came was not Santa Claus.

Instead, it was a tall, slender young woman wearing a white kimono. Her beauty was stunning.

The woman had long, pale-blue hair and skin as white as snow.

Most importantly, the dumpling-shaped devil Kotone Asaba had seen earlier was now lying on the woman’s shoulder.

"You really are naughty. I told you to help a little. I didn’t tell you to cause such a serious avalanche."

He could hear the woman gently scolding the little thing on her shoulder.

The little thing only bounced and rubbed against the woman’s cheek, as if apologizing. In that state, it did not look at all like a devil capable of causing avalanches.

Kotone Asaba was a little confused. Who was this person, and why wasn’t it Santa Claus who came?

On top of that, this woman seemed to have a very good relationship with the Avalanche Devil. Was she also a humanoid devil? Or was she a human who had made a contract with the Avalanche Devil?

Just as Kotone Asaba was thinking about that, the woman walked over and lifted his chin slightly with her hand. He instantly felt an icy sensation from her fingertips, as if they were made of ancient ice.

"This human male is quite handsome."

Kotone Asaba had only narrowed his eyes earlier, and now he closed them again. The woman seemed to think he was still unconscious.

What he did not expect was that the woman directly picked him up, slung him over her shoulder, and carried him away.

"..."

Kotone Asaba was speechless.

He opened his eyes, turned his head to look at the woman, and directly asked, "Who are you?"

"Oh? You woke up this quickly?"

The woman sounded slightly surprised.

At that moment, the little dumpling devil made several quiet sounds beside the woman’s ear. Kotone Asaba could not understand it at all.

It did not trigger another avalanche, so it was clearly saying something to the woman.

"Oh, so that’s what happened... The first avalanche didn’t swallow him, so you triggered a second, stronger one. Fine, fine. Then I won’t blame you."

The woman spoke to herself.

Although this woman was strange, Kotone Asaba had no intention of resisting for now. He still wanted to see whether he could meet Santa Claus, as long as this woman did not attack him.

From the woman’s shoulder, he could clearly feel the chill emanating from her body. Her entire body was like a block of ice. Moreover, that seemingly delicate figure carried him without the slightest pressure, and she was wearing a kimono in a place like this. There were too many strange things about this woman.

At that moment, the woman said to Kotone Asaba, "As for you, you don’t know me? I suppose that makes sense. Fewer and fewer people are afraid of me now. Instead, they all think about going around looking for me..."

"I don’t know you. So what exactly are you trying to do?"

Kotone Asaba asked.

But from what the woman had said, he could roughly infer that she should be a humanoid devil.

"I’m taking you back to see whether you’re injured, of course. By the way, you’re wearing so little. Aren’t humans supposed to be afraid of the cold?"

As she spoke, the woman’s feet suddenly floated into the air, and she flew upward with Kotone Asaba.

At the same time, Santa Claus, who was walking through the snow, vaguely saw a human figure in the distant sky.

She looked at the figure in the air and stopped in her tracks, seeming thoughtful.

However, Kotone Asaba was unable to see Santa Claus. They were too far apart, and the woman was flying very fast. Unless he carefully looked around at every moment, he would not notice her.

After a while, the woman brought Kotone Asaba to the sky above a small wooden cabin. There was a forest around the cabin, and the trees had all been covered in ice and snow, making them look like pillars of ice. The snowy white scenery was quite beautiful.

Immediately afterward, she flew into the wooden cabin.

The woman placed Kotone Asaba on the bed and began reaching out to remove his clothes.

At this point, Kotone Asaba could not let her do as she pleased. He avoided her hand. "Please have some self-respect."

"Oh, feeling shy?"

The woman teased, "I’m just checking whether you’re hurt. Letting me look won’t make you lose a piece of flesh."

"Then I can tell you that I’m not injured. Still, thank you for your kindness."

Kotone Asaba straightened his clothes and got out of bed, preparing to leave.

Not managing to meet Santa Claus made him a little disappointed.

Kotone Asaba did not know that Santa Claus was actually not far from this place at the moment. If he opened the Codex, he would discover that, but he did not.

"You’re leaving this quickly? That’s a little surprising. Am I not pretty enough?"

The fact that this human did not lust after her beauty surprised the woman quite a bit.

"I won’t deny that you’re very pretty, but I’m not so obsessed with beauty. Who knows if you’ll take my kidneys in the next second?"

Kotone Asaba said calmly.

"Take your kidneys? I don’t really understand that, but I feel like you’re quite interesting."

The woman’s tone carried a trace of seduction. "You really don’t want to stay? To live here with me?"

Kotone Asaba remained unmoved. "So what exactly are you? Or rather, what kind of devil are you? If I’m not wrong, that little thing should be the Avalanche Devil, right?"

He was more curious about what kind of devil she was. Humanoid devils were extremely rare. He had not expected that, aside from the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, there were devils who looked this close to humans. The Angel Devil at least had a halo and wings as differences.

"I’m the Snow Woman. Though you humans seem to prefer calling me the Snow Woman Devil. This little one is indeed the Avalanche Devil, but I prefer calling it Snowball."

The woman did not hide anything and directly said it.

"Snow Woman?"

In Kotone Asaba’s impression, that seemed to be an old Japanese legend, but he had never looked into it in detail. He only knew there was a legendary female spirit called the Snow Woman.

Everything in the world, even a concept, could give birth to a devil. A legendary spirit descending into the human world in the form of a devil was normal enough.

So she was the Snow Woman from Japanese legend. No wonder she wore a kimono. As for why she had appeared in the Alps, it was probably because devils that reincarnated from Hell appeared in random locations.

"You’re the one who made that little thing trigger the avalanches?"

Kotone Asaba continued asking.

"That’s right. I specifically instructed Snowball that if it saw a good-looking human male, it should trigger an avalanche. Then I would go rescue him."

The Snow Woman did not even hide that and said it honestly. "If he isn’t to my taste, I save him and bring him somewhere safe. On the other hand, if his face is to my taste, I bring him back home."

"You’re..."

Kotone Asaba was immediately speechless. There were so many things to comment on that he did not know where to start.

"Don’t you want to be honest with me?"

As she spoke, the Snow Woman deliberately pulled open the front of her kimono slightly, revealing half of her snow-white chest to tempt Kotone Asaba.

"I’ll pass..."

Kotone Asaba restrained himself and shifted his gaze away, but to be fair, it was indeed large and pale.

"Wait. It seems a familiar guest has arrived."

At that moment, the Snow Woman suddenly spoke.

"Hmm?"

Kotone Asaba looked toward the door and just happened to see a figure walking toward them from not far ahead.

She was wearing a down jacket and a long black skirt. Once he saw her face clearly, he realized it was Santa Claus.

Codex activated: Santa Claus.

Current Affinity: 0%.

Reward obtained: Constitution +1.

It really was Santa Claus.

Kotone Asaba had not expected that he would meet Santa Claus in this way.

"Long time no see."

After walking up to him, Santa Claus smiled and spoke to Kotone Asaba.

Kotone Asaba nodded slightly, not showing any sense of purpose.

Hearing what Santa Claus said to Kotone Asaba, the Snow Woman could not help asking, "You know this man?"

Santa Claus ignored the Snow Woman and continued speaking to Kotone Asaba. "Why are you here?"

"I wanted to come to the Alps for a bit of fun, but I didn’t expect to run into an avalanche. Then this person who calls herself the Snow Woman brought me here."

Kotone Asaba explained.

"Hmm... If you’re willing to become my apprentice, I can take you away from here. Otherwise, that Snow Woman will kill you."

Santa Claus said.

"Wait! Don’t slander me. As long as he doesn’t tell anyone about what happened today, why would I kill him?"

The Snow Woman immediately retorted.

"He just told me, didn’t he?"

Santa Claus smiled faintly, and combined with what she had just said, there was something oddly funny about it.

"..."

The corner of Kotone Asaba’s mouth immediately twitched slightly. So Santa Claus had just tricked him into talking. She had deliberately asked him why he was here.

And because he had never looked into the Snow Woman legend and had not thought too much about it, he had directly said it.

If he had not been completely unafraid thanks to his strength, and if he had not happened to want contact with Santa Claus anyway, he would have been in serious trouble.

"Uh..."

The Snow Woman’s expression also stiffened a little. Then she began covering up her embarrassment. "That one doesn’t count. I hadn’t warned him yet. It only starts counting after I warn him."

Santa Claus ignored the Snow Woman again and emphasized her question to Kotone Asaba. "Are you willing to become my apprentice?"

Kotone Asaba pretended to hesitate for a while before answering, "...I am. I want to leave this place."

Santa Claus Affinity +10%.

Santa Claus Affinity progress has reached 10%. Achievement reward obtained: Constitution +1.

"Good."

After receiving a satisfactory answer, Santa Claus grabbed Kotone Asaba’s hand and prepared to leave.

"You’re leaving that quickly? Oh, wait!"

At that moment, the Snow Woman took out a white down jacket and handed it to Kotone Asaba. "This is an outer coat I sewed myself. You’re wearing so little, don’t freeze yourself. Take it and wear it."

Kotone Asaba looked at the Snow Woman in silence for a while, then still accepted the white down jacket. "Thank you..."

She was actually worried about him freezing. He suddenly felt that this Snow Woman was a little naive, simple, and cute. Sure enough, humanoid devils were not all that bad.

Although Kotone Asaba was completely unafraid of the cold, he still put on the down jacket on the spot.

"How is it? It should be warm enough, right?"

The Snow Woman even asked with concern.

"Yeah... it’s warm."

Kotone Asaba replied.

"That’s good."

A satisfied smile appeared on the Snow Woman’s stunning face, but the next moment, her expression suddenly became serious. "But remember what I said. Don’t tell anyone what happened today."

Kotone Asaba nodded.

Afterward, Santa Claus led him away from the wooden cabin.

The Snow Woman stood at the door of the cabin, one hand resting on the doorframe, watching Kotone Asaba leave.

"Master... where are we going now?"

Kotone Asaba asked, pretending to be clueless.

Since he had already become her apprentice, he might as well address her directly as Master. In Japanese, the word meant both master and teacher.

And Santa Claus could speak Japanese, which was exactly what she was using to communicate with him.

"To my home."

Santa Claus said, "Next, I’ll spend some time testing you. If you can pass the test, I will introduce you to the powerful devil I’ve contracted with."

"Okay. I’ll do my best."

Kotone Asaba deliberately looked expectant as he spoke.

After following Santa Claus for a long time, Kotone Asaba finally arrived at her home.

Without Snowball causing trouble, they did not run into another avalanche along the way.

What stood before him was also a wooden cabin, but it was larger than the Snow Woman’s small cabin.

"I’ll go boil water and make food first. Asaba, are you hungry?"

Santa Claus asked.

"I am a little hungry."

Kotone Asaba answered honestly.

"Oh, I forgot to prepare firewood in advance."

Santa Claus suddenly discovered that there was no wood to use as firewood, so she prepared to take an axe and go chop some trees.

But Kotone Asaba took the axe from her hand. "How could I let a girl like you do this kind of hard labor, Master? Leave it to me."

"Mm."

Santa Claus immediately smiled in satisfaction.

Master Affinity +5%.

Seeing the notification pop up in front of him, Kotone Asaba felt like laughing a little.

He was racking his brains to raise Santa Claus’s Affinity, while Santa Claus was also racking her brains to deepen the feelings between herself and him. She would probably try to make herself moved over even the smallest thing.

Because this was one of the necessary conditions for making a perfect doll.

After that, Kotone Asaba carried the axe out to chop trees. There were plenty of trees around the cabin.

He first shook the snow off the tree, then chopped it with only a little strength, making sure not to show power that was too far beyond ordinary people.

At the same time, Santa Claus was washing and cutting ingredients, preparing to make soup later.

After Kotone Asaba split the firewood, he brought it back to Santa Claus. She started boiling water over the firewood, then poured the prepared ingredients into the pot and added some common seasonings.

"I haven’t hunted these past few days, so there’s no meat to eat. Tomorrow, Master will take you hunting. It will taste better if we stew it into meat soup."

Santa Claus said.

"Okay."

Kotone Asaba nodded.

Once the soup in the pot was done stewing, Santa Claus personally served him a bowl. "Try it. If you’re not used to the taste, you can tell Master."

Kotone Asaba then took a sip. It was actually all right. No matter what, this kind of thing could only taste so good, but at least it was not unpleasant.
