Chapter 171: Chapter 171: Unwilling to Believe It

The experiment on Denji’s heart was already over, but Kotone Asaba did not leave right away.

Elena’s own heart experiment was scheduled for tomorrow, and just in case, he wanted to stay in the laboratory and watch over it when the time came.

By late night, it was easy for people to overthink things, and Denji could not help letting his thoughts wander too.

He was worried about Elena’s heart experiment tomorrow.

Even though his own experiment had gone very smoothly, and even though Kotone was there to guarantee things, he still could not stop himself from feeling a little anxious.

Then, all of a sudden, a familiar voice sounded inside Denji’s mind.

"You don’t need to worry about that human girl at all. The Whip Devil wouldn’t dare offend the Gun Devil either, so nothing will happen to her tomorrow."

Denji recognized that voice immediately. It was the Sword Devil.

He froze in shock, because this was the first time he had heard the Sword Devil’s voice since the heart experiment had ended.

"You can still talk?"

Denji asked in surprise.

He had thought that once the Sword Devil’s heart fused with him, it meant the Sword Devil had died. He never imagined it would still be able to speak to him from inside his body.

In the middle of the night, Denji suddenly shouted out of nowhere, which startled Elena. She immediately asked in alarm, "Denji? What happened all of a sudden?"

Kotone Asaba, however, remained perfectly calm. From Denji’s reaction and words, he could tell Denji was probably talking to the Sword Devil’s heart.

"Huh? Oh, it’s nothing. The guy inside me suddenly started talking to me and scared the crap out of me."

Denji scratched his head, looking a little embarrassed, but he openly told Elena the truth.

"I see..."

Elena was also somewhat surprised by this.

After all, the scientists had never told her or Denji that after a devil heart merged into a body, they would still be able to communicate with the devil.

At that moment, since he did not want to disturb Elena and Kotone while they were resting, Denji began "talking" to the Sword Devil by transmitting his thoughts inwardly.

Denji had realized that the Sword Devil could read what he had just been thinking, so he figured this method of "conversation" had to work.

After all, his heart had already been replaced by the Sword Devil’s heart. No matter what thoughts crossed his mind, the Sword Devil would know right away.

"What did you mean by the Gun Devil just now? Isn’t that the worst devil there is, the one that killed tons of people and did every evil thing imaginable?"

Denji voiced his confusion.

He had no idea that a piece of the Gun Devil’s heart was inside Kotone Asaba’s body. In fact, it could even be said that Kotone Asaba himself had already become the Gun Devil.

In Denji’s understanding, the Gun Devil was the single worst and most terrifying devil of all, the way his schoolteacher and classmates had described it back then.

So he could not understand what the Sword Devil meant. What did the Gun Devil have to do with the heart experiment?

"You don’t know? That Kotone you kept mentioning before, that human boy, he’s the Gun Devil!"

The Sword Devil was also very surprised.

It had assumed that since Denji and that human boy were so close, Denji should already know the boy was the Gun Devil.

"Kotone? You’re saying he’s the Gun Devil? How is that possible?!"

Denji’s expression changed at once, and he refused to believe what the Sword Devil was saying.

"Kotone is obviously a great guy. He’s the person who’s treated me better than anyone. There’s no way he could be the Gun Devil!"

Denji argued back with everything he had.
