"This should be the Sausage Devil. It’s on the weaker side compared to most Devils, so it should be perfect for you two to practice on."
Kotone Asaba said to Denji and Elena, "Which one of you wants to go? The Sausage Devil definitely won’t last if both of you team up on it, so only one of you can fight if you want proper practice."
"Then I’ll go first?"
Denji discussed it with Elena.
"Okay."
Elena nodded.
Compared to Denji, she was much more timid, so there was no way she would compete with him over fighting the Sausage Devil.
"All right, then I’m going in!"
Just as someone was about to get hurt, Denji immediately pulled off his right hand and rushed forward.
In an instant, he transformed into the Sword Hybrid, and his physical abilities were greatly strengthened.
The Sausage Devil was far faster than an ordinary person, but after transforming, Denji was far faster than the Sausage Devil.
In practically a single breath, Denji had already caught up to it.
Although this was Denji’s first real fight against a Devil, he had plenty of guts and a good head on his shoulders. He did not freeze up under pressure, and he knew exactly what he needed to do next.
The long sword in Denji’s hand aimed straight at the Sausage Devil’s body, and with a high-speed dash, he cut the Sausage Devil in half at the waist.

At that moment, the Sausage Devil was chasing humans as if it were playing with its prey, when suddenly a flash of sword light swept before its eyes.
It froze for a moment, not yet realizing what had happened.
Then its body split into two halves, and blood gushed out like a fountain.
"Whoa! I got this strong?!"
Denji was instantly amazed by his current power.
Both of his hands had become incredibly sharp long swords, and slicing through the Sausage Devil’s body had been as easy as cutting tofu.
He had wanted to get some practice in, but he never expected it to end in one hit.
Yet just then, the Sword Devil’s voice suddenly echoed in his mind.
"Don’t get careless. That thing isn’t completely dead yet."
The Sword Devil was obviously warning Denji.
"No way. It’s already like that and it’s still not dead?"
Denji was immediately in disbelief.
"What’s so strange about that? We Devils aren’t as fragile as humans. We don’t just die from any random hit."
The Sword Devil spoke calmly.
"Fair enough. Then I’ll hurry up and finish it off for good!"
No sooner had Denji spoken than he saw that even though the Sausage Devil had been split in two, it really was not completely dead. Both halves of its body were still writhing there.
As they writhed, chunks of flesh slowly grew out from the cross sections of the wounds where it had been cut in half.
Once the flesh finished forming, both bodies regained the ability to move.
It was as if there were now two Sausage Devils.
"See that? If you don’t kill it completely, it’ll keep multiplying like this."
The Sword Devil said, "The method to kill it completely is actually very simple. Cut it into countless tiny chunks of meat, and it won’t be able to regenerate."
"Got it!"
Denji completely believed what the Sword Devil said. In his mind, he was already planning to cut the Sausage Devil into countless chunks of meat.
The Sword Devil made it sound simple, but for Denji, who was already the Sword Hybrid, it actually was pretty simple to do.
There was no question about the Sword Hybrid’s strength, but how much of that power could be brought out still depended on Denji’s own physical ability and his mastery of the Sword Hybrid form.
Using the goal of cutting the Sausage Devil into countless chunks of meat was the perfect chance for him to properly get used to being the Sword Hybrid.
