Chapter 86: Chapter 86: Constellations
Kotone Asaba then began teaching Angel Devil how to use a cell phone.
Cell phones in this era had very limited functions. They were basically only used to make calls, so teaching him was easy.
"I wrote my number on this piece of paper. From now on, when you need to contact me, just press these buttons and dial my number. You should look it over a few times and memorize it. That way, if there’s an emergency, you can reach me faster."
Kotone Asaba handed Angel Devil a piece of paper with his number written on it.
"Okay."
Angel Devil nodded seriously.
"Try it now."
Angel Devil immediately followed what Kotone Asaba had just taught him and tried dialing Kotone Asaba’s cell phone number.
After a brief delay, Kotone Asaba’s phone suddenly began ringing.
"You can hear me, right?"
After Kotone Asaba confirmed the call and picked up, Angel Devil could hear Kotone Asaba’s voice coming from his own phone.
Angel Devil could not help thinking that this human tool really was convenient.
With this tool, he could contact Kotone Asaba at any time, and he would not have to worry as much about being unable to protect everyone.

Karana happened to come back right then.
"Dinner’s ready. What are you doing?"
As soon as she walked in, she saw Angel and Kotone holding two things she had never seen before, and Karana could not help asking curiously.
"This is a cell phone. It’s a tool that lets people contact each other from far away."
Kotone Asaba explained it to Karana.
"Contact each other from far away? You mean that even if I’m somewhere very far away, I can still hear your voices through this tool called a cell phone?"
Karana had grown up in the tribe and had never been to the outside world, so she had no concept of what a cell phone was.
"Yes, that’s basically what it means."
Kotone Asaba nodded.
"Oh, okay... Then come outside and have dinner first."
Karana was very interested in the thing called a cell phone, but it belonged to someone else, so she was too embarrassed to ask for one.
Angel Devil could roughly understand that Karana was talking about eating. Without needing Kotone Asaba to translate, he put away the cell phone and the paper with the number on it, then prepared to go outside for dinner.
There was a custom here that every meal was eaten outside with the entire tribe gathered together, rather than everyone eating separately in their own homes.
Naturally, the food was stewed in one large pot. The tribe itself was small, with only around twenty to thirty people in total, so one huge pot was enough for everyone.
Kotone Asaba looked at the oversized pot being tended by several people working together. There were all kinds of uncommon vegetables inside, and there was meat too, but it was all seafood.
To be honest, Kotone Asaba did not have much of an appetite when he looked at it. That could not really be helped. After getting used to all kinds of good food, it would have been strange if this kind of food could still make him hungry.
However, he was not picky either. As long as it was edible and not poisonous, that was enough. At the very least, he needed to respect other people’s eating habits.
"You two came from the outside world, so you may not be used to our food. I apologize for that."
The relatively knowledgeable chief knew that Kotone Asaba and Reze probably were not used to food like this.
"It’s fine. You’re being too polite, Chief."
Kotone Asaba waved his hand, which instead made him feel a little embarrassed.
By then, Angel Devil had already started eating. The whole village sat around the enormous pot and ate dinner together.
Although Devils did not need to eat the way humans did, and the only "food" with real value to Devils was human blood, Devils with a sense of taste could still experience the pleasure of enjoying food.
Ever since Angel Devil had arrived in the human world, he had stayed in the tribe and never gone outside. He had never tasted any other good food, so the food here was already delicious enough to him.
Eating with everyone and blending in with them, while also enjoying the pleasure of tasting food, made him feel happy.
Kotone Asaba and Reze each served themselves a bowl of stew.
After tasting it, Kotone Asaba felt that it could not be called especially delicious, but it was not unpleasant either. It was perfectly fine for filling the stomach.
Karana was very enthusiastic about giving Angel Devil extra portions of the tastier parts, and Angel Devil gladly accepted them.
Seeing this, the other villagers all had knowing looks on their faces, but said nothing.
As for Karana’s feelings for Angel Devil, they did not seem to mind that someone in the tribe might fall in love with a Devil.
After all, they had been so friendly to Angel Devil from the very beginning. They had long since treated Angel Devil as one of their own, and they did not care about his identity as a Devil.
After dinner, everyone gradually went back to do their own things or rest.
Angel Devil sat with Karana on the beach, counting stars and looking at the moon.
"That’s the moon."
Karana pointed at the moon, as though she wanted to teach Angel Devil how to say it.
"Moon..."
Angel Devil murmured it several times.
Since the moon was a reference point everyone knew, there was no need for Kotone Asaba to translate.
However, what Karana said next was no longer common knowledge.
"Can you see over there? That’s Leo."
Karana pointed toward the west.
But Angel Devil did not understand what Leo was at all. Even if he saw the constellation Karana was pointing at, he still had no idea what it meant.
"Karana is saying that’s Leo. It’s one of the constellations in the sky."
Kotone Asaba saw Angel Devil’s confused expression and explained it to him.
However, he was a little surprised. He had not expected Karana to know the constellations in the sky. Even he had never really studied constellations much, and only knew some of the more famous ones.
Karana then moved her finger slightly east of Leo.
"That’s Virgo."
Kotone Asaba translated for Angel Devil at the same time.
"That’s Scorpius."
"That’s Sagittarius."
Karana continued pointing out the different constellations to Angel Devil one after another.
Angel Devil knew nothing about constellations, but he liked Karana, so no matter what Karana taught him, he would not get impatient.
Because of his feelings for Karana, he was willing to learn about these constellations. Gradually, he also began to find them somewhat interesting.
As Karana introduced more and more constellations, Kotone Asaba became increasingly surprised. In a tribe that almost never interacted with the outside world, and from a young girl at that, he had not expected her to know so much about constellations.
"That’s impressive. You actually know so much about constellations."
Kotone Asaba praised Karana.
"Ah, my mom taught me all this. She knew more about the outside world than anyone else in our tribe. Even the chief doesn’t know as much about the outside world as she did."
Karana explained, "Mom once lived outside for a while. Back then, she loved constellations a lot. After she came back, she even wrote a book about them. It’s also the most important thing she left behind for me..."
"..."
Kotone Asaba understood that Karana’s mother had probably passed away a long time ago.
No wonder Karana knew so much about constellations. It turned out she had been influenced by her mother.
After thinking about it for a moment, he still translated Karana’s words to Angel Devil.
"The thing she left behind... Your mom is already dead?"
Angel Devil asked bluntly.
Kotone Asaba was immediately a little dumbfounded. Angel really was too straightforward. He could say something like that so directly. Though, to be fair, Angel was a Devil, so it was easy for him to speak bluntly.
Kotone Asaba softened Angel Devil’s words a little when translating them for Karana.
"Yeah... Mom was hurt by something called a ’gun,’ I think. After she came back, she held on for a while, but she still left us. Ever since then, the chief stopped letting us go outside. I also think it’s best not to go outside. The outside world feels so dangerous."
Karana’s expression was somewhat sorrowful.
A gun...
Kotone Asaba sighed faintly in his heart.
Even in Japan, where firearms were so strictly controlled, they still could not be completely banned. The yakuza could still get their hands on them. That was even more true in a chaotic place like South America.
"Can Angel stay here? Or does he want to go to the outside world?"
At that moment, Karana asked Angel Devil with a worried look on her face.
After Kotone Asaba translated for her, Angel Devil gave his answer almost without hesitation.
"If I can, I’ll stay here forever. I’m not very interested in the outside world."
Karana immediately looked overjoyed.
"That’s good!"
After a while, it was getting late, and they all had to go rest.
The people here slept relatively early. Karana and Angel Devil each returned to their own huts.
Before going inside, Karana also said to Kotone Asaba and Reze, "Where are you two going to sleep? How about you sleep over at Angel’s place, and Angel can sleep with me..."
At this point, Karana suddenly realized something, and her face instantly flushed red.
She hurriedly corrected herself. "No, no. You should go sleep at Angel’s place, and Miss Reze can come stay with me. How does that sound?"
"We’re fine. I’m a Devil Hunter, and I have a special Devil power. I can quickly return to my own home to rest."
Kotone Asaba said, "But if you want to sleep together with Angel, do you want me to ask him for you?"
Karana’s small mouth opened slightly. Her face was red with embarrassment, and the expression on her face was clearly conflicted.
It would have been a lie to say she did not want to, but this was also a little too bold.
After struggling with herself for a while, she finally made her decision. Lowering her head slightly, she said to Kotone Asaba in a very small voice, "I do..."
Kotone Asaba smiled faintly.
"Then I’ll go ask him now."
After that, he walked into Angel Devil’s hut.
"Karana seems a little afraid of the dark by herself. She wants you to go keep her company."
"Okay."
Angel Devil agreed without thinking, and there was no particular expression on his face.
Since Kotone Asaba had already helped them this much, what came next had nothing to do with him or Reze.
He and Reze directly transferred back to their hotel in Kyoto through the Kamui dimension. If they could return to their own place to sleep, there was no need to squeeze in with someone else back at the tribe.
"Angel really is special. Aside from the halo and wings, it’s hard to tell he’s a Devil."
Reze sighed with emotion. "I’ve only heard that a very small number of Fiends are relatively friendly to humans. This is the first time I’ve seen a Devil with no malice toward humans at all."
"After all, he’s called Angel, and his appearance is so close to a human’s."
Kotone Asaba said.
Generally speaking, angels were supposed to be kind, aside from fallen angels.
His appearance being close to a human’s was also one of the reasons.
As for the Control Devil, whose appearance was completely indistinguishable from a human’s except for her unusual eyes, the things she did were...
The main reason was that she had been led astray by the Cabinet. If she had been like that from the moment she first arrived in the human world, the Cabinet would never have had the chance to lead the Control Devil astray in the first place.
But even Makima, who had been deliberately raised into an extremist by the Cabinet, had as one of her wishes the elimination of Devils that brought unhappiness to humans. She even wanted the Chainsaw Devil to eat her as well.
From that perspective, Makima was still quite close to humans. She was simply too extreme and distorted.
She had also become self-contradictory and overly idealistic. This could be seen from another one of her wishes, which was to create an equal world.
Then what was her method? It was nothing more than controlling everyone and eliminating all Devils. Perhaps, in that way, the world would become equal.
But as long as Makima herself, the Control Devil, existed, the world could never be equal.
And if she was gone, all the people under her control would break free, and everything would return to the way it was.
But those unrealistic wishes only came about after Makima had been led astray by the Japanese Cabinet.
Before being led astray, Makima’s wish was actually very simple. Just as Pochita said, all she wanted was an equal embrace.
In short, the more closely a Devil’s appearance resembled a human’s, the friendlier it was toward humans. There was no problem with that idea. For example, Nayuta later never caused trouble, because thanks to Kishibe’s intervention, the Cabinet was prevented from coming into contact with Nayuta. Makima, during the period when she had just arrived in the human world, was no different from Nayuta.
That was also why Kotone Asaba wanted to find the Control Devil before the Japanese Cabinet did, and prevent the Cabinet as much as possible from creating the later Makima.
Back at the tribe, Angel Devil directly carried his pillow and blanket into Karana’s hut.
When Karana saw that Angel had really come over, her heartbeat immediately sped up, pounding wildly.
There was a fire burning inside the hut, giving off a faint light, so the blush on Karana’s face was not especially obvious.
Angel Devil and Karana still could not communicate in a very complicated way, so without saying a word, he simply placed his pillow and blanket on Karana’s bed.
Just as Kotone Asaba had said, he was there to sleep with Karana and keep her company. Beyond that, he had not thought about anything else at all.
Angel Devil did not look the least bit embarrassed. He lay down directly and prepared to sleep.
Karana also gathered her courage, then slipped under the covers with a flushed face.
Her heart kept beating very quickly. The corners of her mouth rose uncontrollably into a sweet smile, and she clasped her hands in front of her collarbone as if praying.
"Dad... Mom... Karana is going to get pregnant with a baby tonight..."
However, after an entire night passed, Angel Devil did nothing, and Karana did nothing either. Instead, she spent a very long time praying...
