Chapter 404: Chapter 402:“Dante...”

Far away, in a location so far removed from the concept of existence that existence itself wouldn’t dare approach, in a space where time didn’t exist, space didn’t exist, the future didn’t exist, and the past even more so, there was nothing. That was all that existed here, absolute NOTHINGNESS.

Within this Point of Nothingness, something stirred.

What it was, one could never know. But then, IT spoke...

"Hmmmm...." A low hum reverberated through the eternal nothingness as even that shook from the sound.

"So that little girl’s spawn is finally awake?" There was a hint of amusement in the tone of whatever was speaking.

"How long has it been, oh little devouring? You gave your life for that little sapling, and my foolish daughter... haaa..." The voice let out a long breath, one that sent the purest essence of nothingness roiling and churning.

"He is still too young... oh so very, very young. The others, they won’t..." The voice paused as it seemed to have felt something, and then...

"Pfft... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!" It laughed, the sound causing multiple planes of existence taking root in its concept to wink out and become one with it.

"Ahh... little devouring. So even you could be this sly, heh!" The voice mused, thoroughly amused.

"Alright then. For the sake of my foolish and lovestruck daughter, and for the sake of this interesting development, allow me to offer some assistance." Saying so, the expanse of nothingness shook, then returned to calm.

"Let’s see what comes of a being that is one of us and one of you. Oh, the reaction when the others find out. This... should be interesting. Very interesting."

Done with its musings, the voice fell silent as the expanse returned to calm once more.

The consequences of its actions today being ones to begin unfolding not too far into the future, but until then...

We wait...

.....

Deep within the recesses of Dante’s soul.

"Shaia, it is time," the figure of Dante, with his pupils entirely black, said to the woman before him. His eyes remaining locked onto the image of Melissa being held.

"I still think you’re not ready, my love," the beautiful voice of the one called Shaia replied, worry evident in her tone.

"It matters not. The seal has been broken. It is time to become whole."

...

A beat of silence fell before, "You’ll have to start over again, my love."

"That’s why I have you, my love. I know you have already made plans to make me remember, so I am assured." A fond smile appeared on his face.

"You trust me too much..."

"I trust you not enough," he replied immediately.

"Haa... I still think we need more time. But if you believe you’re ready, then go. Come what may. Come who may. I shall always be by your side."

He remained silent as his body slowly began breaking apart.

"Go forth, my love. And let the SON finally awaken."

.....

Back on Terra.

Aeternum Spire.

The moment the sounds of chains snapping apart spread through the core of Terra, the dean’s eyes snapped open as he felt a wave of horror and fear, this one so crippling it felt like the planet was about to collapse in on herself.

Her suppression, the thing that made her so unique, was... suppressed.

She didn’t dare. Terra truly didn’t dare try to suppress whatever it was that was about to break free.

"What... what is happening?" The dean’s voice was shaking as the unmitigated fear and... reverence? from Terra made him unable to center himself.

"I need to know. I need to see this," he mused, about to move, when...

"I... can’t?" The concept of movement had been stolen. His body stayed frozen as his eyes slowly widened in horrifying realization.

"This... Terra’s being has been... overridden."

The words felt foreign. And he didn’t dare to believe them, but he could feel it thoroughly. Terra had unequivocally handed all authority to whatever it was that had appeared.

"Just... what the hell is happening?"

.....

Tower of Ascension.

On the 999th floor.

Inside one of the domains saturating the floor, two beings could be seen in deep conversation.

One was a ten-foot-tall piece of blackened metal with the essence of death covering its entire being, two eyes burning with a spectral grey flame the only telltale signs of consciousness.

The other, a dullahan that seemed to have been fused with his mount, together they stood even taller than the piece of death metal.

Their weapons had been planted by their sides as they stood still, letting the wave of horror currently spreading through Terra wash over them.

Dante would’ve recognized them instantly had he seen them.

"It’s... that little boy," Momon Du Mont, the first sword of death, spoke up.

"It is... but at the same time it is not," Omari Du Mont, the first rider of death, replied.

"What do you think is happening?" Momon asked.

"My guess is as good as yours, brother." Omari shook his head as his gravelly voice rumbled through the air.

"Do you think she knows?" Momon’s gaze trailed toward a door at the far end of the floor.

"She might have an idea. But I believe this is beyond something even she would know," Omari replied, not bothering to look.

"Heh. To think that little boy is already like this. I wonder how long he’s planning on making his dear old grandpas wait, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"

Momon laughed uproariously as Omari just shook his head at the antics of his brother.

Here the world was, trembling at the incomprehensible being awakening before them, yet he was busy wondering what a reunion with that same monster was like.

"Truly what a strange world," Omari thought in silence as the aura pressing down upon the world deepened.

Across the 999th floor, a door stood closed at the farthest end.

Within it was a room of minimal aesthetics.

Yet the presence within felt anything but minimal.

Sitting cross-legged on a mat woven from the myriad laws was a woman of extraordinary beauty.

Her twin-colored black and white hair fell in cascading waves down her back.

A simple and unadorned white robe strained to cover up proportions that were protesting against the unfair treatment.

Her breaths came out slow and steady, yet one could feel the bubbling frustration within, and then...

BANG!!!

Her eyes snapped open, pure frustration within.

"That insufferable bastard!!!! What did he do now?" Her voice was beautiful, soothing, sweet even, but her anger was not.

"All he does is cause trouble! Even his annoying father wasn’t this problematic. Now he’s gone and forced the world to hand over her authority. Damn it!! Just wait till I get my hands on you!!" She growled, teeth gritted. But once she felt the suffocating aura forcing her to sit still against her will, she could only relent. "Fine! I’ll let you off this once," she groaned as her eyes closed once more.

She was Sana, the artifact spirit of the Ascension Tower, but today, she could only be called... helpless.

....

....

The whole world had been put on notice as not an ounce of movement was allowed.

It didn’t matter if you were old, young, male, female, strong, or weak. Every soul on Terra was subjected to the same horror.

Back at the battlefield.

"Plop!"

The sound of knees hitting the floor echoed through the unnerving silence as Sulvan dropped to his knees.

His hands were trembling as he raised them in worship.

His red hood flared a crimson entropy as his eyes bled a fanatical light.

His gaze remained locked onto the still trembling figure of Dante, and then...

"O master of mine... let your eternal glory fall upon this realm of existence. Let all of creation bow its head before its one true lord. Let your being manifest."

His cult-like chant echoed eerily through the souls of all those on Terra.

"O master of mine... It. Is. Time."

".... Awaken!"

The moment the words left his mouth,

OOOOOOOMMMMMMM!!!!!

Dante’s body exploded.

Not in gore. Not in blood. Not even in loudness.

But in absolute darkness.

A darkness words would’ve failed to describe fell upon the world in its entirety.

A shadow covered all of Terra, for if one were to gaze upon the world from the outside, all they would see was black.

A pair of heterochromatic eyes opened from within that eternal darkness.

One was pure gold. The other was a dark black that shone with the light of creation within it.

They gazed upon the world like a god gazing upon ants.

Nothing could be felt. Nothing could be seen.

Just being in his presence felt like your being, your existence, your records, everything was being unmade. Being erased. Being sent... to oblivion.

"Ahhhhh... MY MASTER!!!!" Sulvan’s fanatic cry resounded through the silence as the world held its breath.

Dante’s gaze finally settled upon the two frozen figures.

Seroth and A’kenai had gone stiff.

Their faces paler than white.

And then,

CHOMP!

A portal appeared below them, devouring the two whole.

Crunch! Crunch! Crunch!

The horrific sounds of chewing echoed throughout all of Terra as Dante chewed the beings whole.

The moment Dante "ate" Seroth and A’kenai, reality, like a switch was flipped, glitched, and then...

"Huh?" Melissa blinked a few times as she suddenly began wondering what happened and how she had ended up where she was.

The others around were wondering the exact same thing.

They just blinked, and suddenly the woman they were going to save was now falling?

And the effects were not solely restricted to Terrans alone...

Melissa, now free from her captor, wasn’t even allowed to fall before a warm presence enveloped her, placing her right next to the others.

"Mel..."

"Ahh... there you are."

"Finally..."

The others breathed easily as Mel smiled. Then together, they looked up, at him.

Dante’s gaze trailed through the entirety of Terra, almost in a surveying manner.

It didn’t matter who you were. Beneath his gaze, all heads dropped.

And then, almost as if he was finally out of energy to give...

WAP!!

The darkness disappeared. In its place was an unconscious Dante far up in the sky.

His figure tore through the atmosphere as he plummeted.

"DANTE!!!" His friends screamed as they rushed toward him.

The atmosphere itself stirred as it began to act, but before anyone could make a move, before even the atmosphere could react properly, she was there.

Like she had made sure to be whenever he needed her, Raven wrapped Dante’s unconscious figure in a warm and tender embrace as she halted his fall.

Dante, now in the custody of his woman, felt the last traces of tension leave his body as a relaxed expression appeared on his unconscious face.

"There, Dante. You can rest now," Raven’s tender voice sounded out in soothing relief.

And so ended the first half of the purge.

With the one to later be known as the calamity, the destroyer, the anomaly resting blissfully in the bosom of his goddess.

Because no matter what the world thought of him, for now, he was merely...

"Dante..."
