Chapter 408: Chapter 406:Congratulations.

I didn’t know how long it was before I could finally get a hold of myself.

I had told myself before that I wasn’t going to cry anymore, but this time, I just couldn’t...

Not with how Mother was...

"Don’t..."

Shaia’s voice stopped the thoughts before they could even form.

"Don’t do that to yourself. Not when you just woke up."

I remained silent.

It should’ve felt weird, this feeling of absolute trust. I knew it should.

Yet, after what I had just been through, I was sure of one thing.

"I missed you." My memories were still foggy. But what wasn’t were the times I spent with her.

Even the memories of where that place was were still things I would need time to acclimate and digest, but...

"I missed you so much." That was it.

Even now, she was the only anchor trying to keep me from spiraling.

"I am here, my love. I have always been here. Don’t you remember? Teehee."

That laughter. The memories began clashing once more.

But unlike what I’d expected, it didn’t feel foreign. It just felt like puzzle pieces finally clicking.

"So that’s what you meant, heh." I couldn’t help shaking my head wryly as I finally understood what she meant back then when she had said I get jealous even of myself, and that was because...

BANG!!!

The door to the room I was in was blasted apart as multiple figures rushed in, a pile forming on top of me before I could even protest my case.

"Soothe their worries, and yours, my love. They have been scared for over a month. And you have just experienced something extreme. You need them just as much as you’ll need me. So just let go and soothe your aching heart."

Shaia’s voice made me go quiet as I felt the soft trembling of the mountain of flesh on me.

My body was already drenched from the tears spilling forth.

I said nothing, merely opening my arms and wrapping them around to cover as much of them as I could. "I’m sorry." I had no idea why I was apologizing, but it felt like the only thing I could do in this situation.

I still didn’t understand what Shaia meant by one month, but if it was what I thought it was, then, "I’m sorry for making you worried." And that seemed to be the final hit on the dam, as the waterworks burst forth.

Khalifa. Melissa. Cara. Liz. They didn’t hold back, their wails filling the room.

"You’re fine. You’re fine. It’s good you’re fine." Melissa.

"Dante... I was scared. You weren’t breathing. You weren’t moving. I was horrified." Cara.

As for both Liz and Khalifa, the two beautiful women didn’t even have words. They just kept choking on sobs that tore my heart apart as they held onto me like they were afraid I’d disappear.

My heart clenched as guilt washed over me.

I knew it was bad when even Kaila, Mira, Dakota, Clarissa, and Aunt V, these mature and stoic women, were shaking in silent tears.

The guilt I felt multiplied, yet even in that guilt, I felt comfort.

"I am sorry. I won’t do it again, make you worry this much," I promised as I gestured for the standing women to get in.

I had to use my Myriad Transformation Art to make enough space on my being as my massive arms wrapped around the women, uncaring of the fact that my bed had been totaled by the weight.

"I am back," I said, voice reassuring, not just for them, no, for myself as well.

"I am back."

....

I didn’t know how long it was before the tension slowly ebbed away.

The emotions riding high had slowly begun to fade as everyone finally got a hold of themselves.

The bed had been changed to something capable of carrying the weight of over ten people as we remained in a pile of entangled bodies. This bunch of crazy women were actually willing to share a bed for once. Nobody was willing or ready to move, and I wasn’t about to complain, not even if I suffocated to death.

...

...

A comfortable silence fell within the room, one that was broken by Aunt V’s voice: "What happened back there, Dante?" At her question, the girls all perked up as they finally raised their bodies, spreading out on the bed as they rested their heads on their hands, attention locked onto me.

"One month. You were..." Her breath choked, yet she forced the words out. "Dead. You were dead for a whole month. We had stubbornly believed it to be a lie, you wouldn’t dare leave us, leave me. But I—we—were very scared, so please, tell us, what happened." I looked into her eyes. Her worry and concerns were clear.

I wanted to answer her, tell her the truth, but the truth was: "I... don’t know." I truly didn’t.

Everything from the moment I returned from the abyss was all a fragmented blur of red and black.

"I don’t know what happened, Aunt V." I looked down at my hands. "All I remember is my rage. The moment you told me the news, that was all there was. Rage. An undiluted anger that coursed through my very core. Everything else was a blurred vision. The last thing I remember seeing before it all went black was..." I raised my head as I locked eyes with Melissa, "Mel being held by her throat." Just the memory of that image threatened to send me into another spiral, but I held it off.

"Huh?" The confused exclamation from Melissa drew my attention from my raging emotions.

"I was held by the throat?" Melissa asked, confused.

"What?" I asked back, equally confused.

"But all that happened back then was, the battle was suddenly turning bad as the others began using their laws and zones, then you lost it after seeing Liz injured. That’s how you destroyed everything in your rage as you finally saved me and returned me to the others."

"What?" Now it was my turn to get confused.

Liz? Injured? When? Wasn’t Liz the one to wipe out the church’s members like bugs?

I looked around. All I got were nods of affirmation.

"Huh? Mel, what are you talking about? What about that deer-antlered young man that had held you by the throat? What about the other elderly man that brought silence to the battlefield with his presence?" I asked. I recalled those two clearly. One because he dared hold Mel by her throat. The other because he dared demand my submission.

"Huh? Deer antlers? Dante, are you sure you’re fine? There was no youth with deer antlers there. The entire thing was the plan of the demons and the ancient families."

"What?" That couldn’t be right. Yet, from the worried looks the others were giving me—

"They don’t remember. No, it’s better to say that the reality where all you’re speaking of happened was effectively rewritten when you devoured those two."

Shaia’s voice sounded out just in time.

"What does that even mean?"

"Ask Raven about her brother, Damien," she directed instead of answering.

What was there to lose? I needed to understand what was happening either way...

"Hey, Aunt V," I called out, breaking the girls from their confused stares.

"Yes?"

"What about your brother?"

"Your father? Regulus is gone, I’m afraid. But we’ve avenged him now. So I am sure his soul is at peace."

"Huh? No. Not Dad. I’m talking about your other brother."

"What other brother? I have only ever had one family, and that’s Regulus. Are you sure you’re okay?"

This didn’t make any sense. Just what the fuck was happening? Why could I recall clearly a man named Damien that was related to Aunt V, but she herself seems clueless?

"Congratulations, my love, you have finally unlocked your bloodline..."

"What are you talking about?"

"Congratulations on your awakening as the first ever Chaos-Outer source hybrid, O Breath of Oblivion."
