A bright moon hung high in the sky, but its once-snowy light was now tinged with a faint, bloody glow. Within the Bai Family compound, dark figures flickered past. A few lights that had been on were suddenly extinguished, and crimson blood instantly splattered across the windows.
After a short while, the dark figures that had flown through the Bai Family compound gathered together. Upon closer inspection, they were all wearing Bai Family attire, though their clothes were now more or less stained with blood.
"What's the situation?" Bai Shuo asked the Bai Family Army soldiers before him, his expression indifferent.
"Reporting to the Commander, all envoys from the Vajra Ape Race have been eliminated. In the lap of luxury we provided, they had no strength to resist. It was surprisingly easy this time!" a Martial Artist from the Bai Family Army replied.
"Then move their bodies out of here. Remember, don't let anyone find them!" Bai Shuo ordered in a low voice.
"Yes, Commander!" the Martial Artists of the Bai Family Army responded in unison. They then picked up the bodies and vanished into the night in streaks of shadow.
...
Meanwhile, Shen Haoran had already brought Lady Ya, Da Mao, Er Mao, and the others to the Medicine Hall. The Bai Family compound was no longer safe. If they had stayed, they might have fallen into the schemes of that old fox, Bai Hong.
'Sigh, what a mess!' Shen Haoran thought, pressing a hand to his forehead with a wry smile as he looked at the sleeping Lady Ya and the children. He had helped Lady Ya with the Prince of the Vajra Ape Race, and now he had provoked them as well. The Fox Race, the Snow Wolf Race, and now the Vajra Ape Race had all become his enemies. This was hardly good news for him.
Shen Haoran had just arrived in the Eastern Domain. Although he didn't know the true strength of the three races, stirring up so much trouble right away was a problem. More importantly, his own power had not yet recovered. Relying solely on his Spiritual Thought for combat was extremely dangerous for him. If his Spiritual Thought was damaged, the consequences would be far more severe than a simple injury.
'Sigh, I guess I have to focus on recovering my strength first,' Shen Haoran thought, clenching his fists. This feeling of having no Spiritual Power in his body was truly awful. 'I wonder if Hall Master Hong has gathered those Spirit Medicines yet.'
'Three days... Looks like I still have to wait a while.' Shen Haoran calculated the time and could only sit down cross-legged in resignation to continue recuperating. He had to get his body into its best possible condition before the Refinement of the elixir.
Three days wasn't a long time, but it wasn't short, either. Within those three days, the Bai Family's Bai Family Army mobilized almost completely, beginning a city-wide manhunt for Lady Ya and the others. However, despite turning White Fox City practically upside down, they still came up with nothing.
"A bunch of worthless trash! You can't even find one woman at the Spirit Pupil Tier and a few children. What's the use of keeping you around!" Bai Hong, seated at the head, roared in anger.
Feeling Bai Hong's boundless fury, the Bai Family Army soldiers below immediately lowered their heads. "Second Clan Uncle," one said hastily, "we've already searched White Fox City all over, but we haven't found any sign of Lady Ya and the others!"
"Hmph, searched all over? Lady Ya and the others never left the city. They must still be inside. Did you miss somewhere?" Bai Hong questioned coldly.
"Second Clan Uncle, they really have done their best. However, it seems there is indeed one place in the city that hasn't been searched yet," Bai Shuo said from the side.
"Where?" Bai Hong asked.
"The Medicine Hall," Bai Shuo replied, then continued, "Because of the Medicine Hall's special status, we didn't dare enter to search."
"Hmph, the Medicine Hall!" Hearing this, Bai Hong's fists clenched. He also knew of the Medicine Hall's special status. Among the Eastern Domain Demon Race, the Medicine Hall was like the Human Race's Pill Hall. No power dared to provoke them, as they controlled the supply of elixirs and Spirit Medicines in the Eastern Domain. These were indispensable for a Martial Artist's cultivation. If they offended the Medicine Hall, they might find themselves blacklisted in the future.
At this thought, Bai Hong fell silent, his fingers tapping restlessly on the tabletop. After a moment, he abruptly stood up and walked out of the Bai Family compound.
"I will go to the Medicine Hall and negotiate personally. Hall Master Hong should give me some face," Bai Hong said in a low voice. The Bai Family had to find Lady Ya. She was still of great use to him!
...
Meanwhile, in the Medicine Hall, Hall Master Hong had already gathered all the Spirit Medicines Shen Haoran needed and delivered them to his room.
"Little Brother Shen, I've brought the Spirit Medicines you needed!" Hall Master Hong said, handing a Storage Ring to Shen Haoran.
"Many thanks!" Shen Haoran took the Storage Ring. Looking at the dozen or so Spirit Medicines lying inside it, he finally let out a huge sigh of relief. With these, he could refine an elixir and recover his strength!
"Here are the Spirit Crystals for these Spirit Medicines. Please count them, Hall Master Hong." Shen Haoran passed over a Storage Ring containing several hundred thousand Spirit Crystals. He had no intention of taking things from the Medicine Hall for free. Besides, he had obtained a great number of Spirit Crystals in the Secret Realm of the Desert Ancient City, so a few hundred thousand was nothing to him.
"Ah, please, Young Friend Shen, just forget it. Consider this an apology from the Medicine Hall for our previous offense," Hall Master Hong said with an awkward smile, rejecting Shen Haoran's kind offer.
At this, Lady Ya, who was standing to the side, watched Shen Haoran and Hall Master Hong deferring to each other, unable to process what she was seeing for a moment. She knew full well who Hall Master Hong was: the Hall Master of the Medicine Hall. Even though it was just the White Fox City branch, his status there was second to none. Even her late grandfather, the Clan Leader of the Fox Race, had to show him some respect. But now? From the looks of it, Hall Master Hong seemed to be fawning over Shen Haoran. 'What in the world is going on?'
Seeing Hall Master Hong's refusal, Shen Haoran seemed to understand. He put the Storage Ring away and said with a smile, "In that case, I will humbly accept. Next, I'm going to perform some Alchemy. Would Hall Master Hong be interested in watching?"
"Really?" Upon hearing this, Hall Master Hong's face lit up with joy. The reason he was so polite to Shen Haoran was twofold: first, Shen Haoran had identified a problem he couldn't just from a Pill Fragrance, and second, he was hoping to observe Shen Haoran's Alchemy.
If an Alchemist wanted to break through to the next level, they could either do it through constant practice and accumulation of experience, or by observing a High Tier Alchemist perform Alchemy. The former was manageable, requiring only time. The latter, however, was a rare opportunity that couldn't be sought out. After all, High Tier Alchemists were extremely proud. Unless it was a master-disciple relationship, it was unlikely any High Tier Alchemist would allow others to watch them work.
Seeing Hall Master Hong's delighted expression, Lady Ya was once again dumbfounded. The Hall Master of the Medicine Hall was going to observe Shen Haoran's Alchemy? 'Haven't their roles been completely reversed?!'
