"Quick, go get Lady Ya!" the old man said anxiously to Shen Haoran.

Shen Haoran was taken aback. ’This guy is ordering me around like a servant. Has he gotten so excited that he’s lost his mind?’

When Shen Haoran didn’t move, the old man grew frantic. With a flash, he vanished, his anxious voice drifting back from the distance. "Never mind, I’ll go myself!"

"Hey, you—" Shen Haoran watched the old man disappear in an instant, a look of exasperation on his face. ’This old guy is in way too much of a hurry. He’s acting like his life depends on finding this Nine-tailed White Fox.’

Seeing this, Shen Haoran hurried after him. ’That old man is so agitated. What if he accidentally hurts Lady Ya?’ In truth, he didn’t know much about the Nine-tailed White Fox himself. Changmao, the being inside him, had been the one to tell him. When Shen Haoran’s power recovered a few days ago, Changmao—whose own life force was connected to his—also awakened. Changmao’s first words had been about Lady Ya. After all, in the Ancient Era, the Nine-tailed White Fox was an existence comparable to Changmao himself!

But Shen Haoran couldn’t be completely sure. Changmao could be unreliable at times. ’What if he was just talking nonsense because he’d just woken up? Wouldn’t that put Lady Ya in a bad spot?’

With that thought, Shen Haoran rushed toward Lady Ya’s residence. When he arrived, however, he found the old man had been sent flying out the door by Lady Ya. His nose was completely red, and a trickle of blood was slowly dripping from it.

"Er... Elder, what happened to you?" Shen Haoran asked, taken aback by the old man’s appearance.

"It’s nothing, nothing at all!" Seeing that Shen Haoran had caught up, the old man quickly tried to act as if nothing had happened.

Shen Haoran shook his head helplessly. From the looks of it, he could guess what had happened. Lady Ya, engrossed in her work, must have simply shut the door on the old man.

"Do you really need to see Lady Ya, Elder?" Shen Haoran asked.

"Of course!" The old man shot Shen Haoran an annoyed look. ’The Nine-tailed White Fox is tied to the very destiny of our Fox Race! We’ve waited ten thousand years for this. Now that I’ve heard there might be one right in front of me, how could I not be anxious?’

"Alright, I’ll get you inside." Seeing the old man’s glare, Shen Haoran could only shake his head in resignation. He then pushed open Lady Ya’s locked door.

"Didn’t I make it clear? No one is to disturb me while I’m working. Do you not understand?" As Shen Haoran and the old man entered the room, Lady Ya’s cold voice rang out, making both of their faces twitch.

"Lady Ya, it’s me," Shen Haoran said, announcing his presence.

Hearing Shen Haoran’s voice, Lady Ya looked up and finally stopped what she was doing. However, when she saw the old man beside him, her expression turned cold again.

"Lady Ya, this is the Old Ancestor of the Fox Race, Bai Zhen. He’s here to see you about something," Shen Haoran introduced him quickly, seeing the icy look on her face. He was worried she might throw the old man out again.

"The Old Ancestor of the Fox Race?" Lady Ya paused, sizing up the old man. But her expression quickly turned cold again as she said flatly, "I don’t care if he’s the Old Ancestor. I have work to do."

Shen Haoran couldn’t help but roll his eyes at her words. ’This Lady Ya is really something else, so dedicated.’ The old man gave a dry laugh and said to Lady Ya, "Young lady, I’m not here to disturb you. I just need a single drop of your blood. Just one drop!"

"You want my blood? What for?" Lady Ya asked, looking at Bai Zhen warily.

"It’s alright, Lady Ya. Just give Elder Bai a drop of blood," Shen Haoran said with a slight smile. "You might be in for a surprise."

"A surprise?" Lady Ya glanced at Shen Haoran, then nodded slightly. She pricked her finger, squeezing out a single drop of blood, and offered it to Bai Zhen. She still trusted Shen Haoran’s words.

Bai Zhen accepted Lady Ya’s blood, overjoyed. He quickly pulled an exquisite Token from his robes. Carved upon it was a lifelike Nine-tailed White Fox.

"This is our Fox Race’s Nine-tailed White Fox Order, which has been passed down through generations. It’s used specifically to detect the Nine-tailed White Fox Bloodline," Bai Zhen explained to Shen Haoran and Lady Ya. He then let the drop of Lady Ya’s blood fall onto the Nine-tailed White Fox Order, his eyes filled with anticipation as he stared at the Token.

The drop of blood vanished the moment it touched the Token, but the Token itself showed no reaction.

"This..." The three of them stared for a long time, but still nothing happened. Disappointment filled Bai Zhen’s eyes. Just as he was about to put the Token away, it suddenly let out a loud HUMMM. A blinding light erupted from it, engulfing all three of them.

When the blinding light faded and the three of them opened their eyes, a colossal, snow-white fox stood before them. Its nine tails, flowing like ribbons, left them utterly stunned.

"The Nine-tailed White Fox!" Seeing the great beast before him, Bai Zhen’s eyes filled with elation. He immediately dropped to his knees. ’The deity our Fox Race has awaited for ten thousand years... it has finally appeared!’

Lady Ya stared blankly at the Nine-tailed White Fox. The pupils in her eyes began to shift, eventually becoming identical to those of the great fox.

HUMMM...

However, the blinding light had come and gone in a flash. A moment later, the three of them were back in the room. Bai Zhen stared at Lady Ya with a fervent heat in his eyes, while Shen Haoran observed her with great interest. Lady Ya, however, was still in a daze, unable to process the vision of the Nine-tailed White Fox.

"We’ve found her. The Fox Race has finally found her!" Tears streamed down Bai Zhen’s face, his body trembling with excitement.

"What... was that just now?" Lady Ya asked dazedly, looking at Shen Haoran and Bai Zhen.

"The Nine-tailed White Fox! The sacred being of my Fox Race! It was the Nine-tailed White Fox!" Bai Zhen exclaimed, then proceeded to tell Lady Ya the entire story behind the legend.

"I’m the inheritor of the Nine-tailed White Fox?" Lady Ya couldn’t help but chuckle at Bai Zhen’s words. She was only a mere Spirit Pupil. How could she possibly be connected to the legendary Nine-tailed White Fox?

"Saintess, you are indeed the inheritor of the Nine-tailed White Fox Bloodline. The power within you simply hasn’t awakened yet. If you are willing, I can take you to awaken it right now. The Fox Race has waited for this day for ten thousand years!" Bai Zhen’s way of addressing Lady Ya had completely changed.

"Awaken... the bloodline..." Lady Ya murmured. She never could have imagined that such a fate awaited her.
