Chaos Heaven-Dominating Technique

Chapter 612 - 607: I Have the Capital

"What? Shen Haoran, I dare you to say that again!"

"You’re openly provoking an Elder of the Medicine Hall! You’re courting death!"

"Hmph, we call you bold and you really start to think you’re someone special? The Medicine Hall’s power is no weaker than that of the Four Great Divine Beast Families. Do you really think you can withstand the Medicine Hall’s wrath? Provoking an Elder is a capital offense! Get on your knees and apologize to Elder Xue right now, and maybe we’ll spare your worthless life!"

Yin Xueyu and his two companions heard Shen Haoran and immediately stepped forward, pointing and yelling at him, their faces filled with rage. But Shen Haoran was dismissive of their rebukes. He had only spoken the truth. Provoking a Medicine Hall Elder? That man had looked down on him first. Shen Haoran was simply standing up for himself.

At the side, Feng Li also watched Elder Xue and Yin Xueyu’s group with a calm expression. In truth, before they arrived, Feng Li had advised Shen Haoran to hide his strength and just test for a Fifth Grade Alchemist badge. But he never expected their humility would be met with such disdain and contempt. Even Feng Li couldn’t stomach this treatment, let alone the target of it all, Shen Haoran.

"Good. Good. Excellent. ’Not qualified,’ you say!" Elder Xue laughed in extreme anger, his face then turning grim as he stared at Shen Haoran. "Since my debut, I started learning Alchemy at twelve and became a certified Alchemist at thirteen. At twenty-five, I won second place in the contest for the title of Pill Emperor, making a name for myself in a single battle, and was recruited into the Medicine Hall. At forty, I became a Fifth Grade Alchemist and was promoted to an Elder of the Medicine Hall. Today, I have already reached the Peak of the Sixth Grade Alchemist realm. My Alchemy skills are considered among the top ranks in the Medicine Hall. And yet you say *I* am not qualified? How utterly arrogant!"

Hearing Elder Xue recount his life story, Yin Xueyu, Chi Lian, and Mu Tong stared at him in shock, their eyes filled with adoration.

"Shen Haoran, did you hear that? A true Alchemy genius like Elder Xue usually keeps a low profile. *That* is a role model for the Alchemy Realm, an exemplar for our generation! He’s countless times better than a bragging brat like you!"

"That’s right! Elder Xue’s career is the definition of a genius’s rise in the Alchemy Realm. He has a great chance of breaking through to become a Seventh Grade Alchemist. Do you even know what a Seventh Grade Alchemist represents?"

"I doubt he knows. He’s just a Fourth Grade Alchemist right now. It’s not even certain he can pass the assessment for Fifth Grade Alchemist. To him, a Seventh Grade Alchemist must be an unreachable dream!"

Yin Xueyu and his companions looked at Shen Haoran with mocking smiles. In their eyes, Shen Haoran was just trying to get some attention by provoking Elder Xue, hoping the Elder would remember him. To them, such a trick was utterly childish.

In response to the mockery from Yin Xueyu’s group, Shen Haoran just shook his head lightly. He then mused for a moment before speaking. "To be honest, I wasn’t going to tell you about my own experience. I didn’t think you could handle the shock. But since you’ve piqued my interest, I suppose I have to say something."

Hearing Shen Haoran’s strange words, Yin Xueyu, his companions, and Elder Xue all froze, puzzled. They didn’t understand what he meant. But when they heard what he said next, their expressions changed dramatically once more.

"To be precise, I’m not really an Alchemist. Alchemy is just a hobby for me. I started practicing about four years ago, I think? A few months after that, I got my Fourth Grade Alchemist badge. And now, I’m a Seventh Grade Alchemist. I’m here today to take the assessment for the Seventh Grade Alchemist Badge!" Shen Haoran said nonchalantly with a shrug, as if he had just dabbled in Alchemy for fun and somehow reached the Seventh Grade.

"What?!" Hearing Shen Haoran’s words, it wasn’t just Yin Xueyu, his companions, and Elder Xue who were stunned. Even Feng Li, who had come with Shen Haoran, was shocked speechless. He knew Shen Haoran’s Alchemy skills were heaven-defying, so he had assumed Shen Haoran must have been immersed in Alchemy since childhood. But hearing from Shen Haoran’s own mouth that he had only been practicing for four years left Feng Li completely dumbfounded. To go from an Alchemy Apprentice to a Seventh Grade Alchemist in four years... that wasn’t a genius, that was a monster! A monster among monsters!

"Arrogant! Bullshit! No one can go from a complete Alchemy novice to a Seventh Grade Alchemist in four years! Even if you’re going to make up a story, at least make it believable!" Yin Xueyu cursed out loud upon hearing Shen Haoran’s claim.

"Hmph. Truly a piece of rotten wood that cannot be carved. To think the Alchemy Realm has someone like you... what a disgrace!" At that moment, Shen Haoran was cast into the eighteenth level of Hell in Elder Xue’s mind, the hat of "arrogant and conceited" now fitted even more snugly on his head.

"Arrogant? My arrogance is backed by substance. I have the qualifications to be this arrogant!" Listening to the shouts from Yin Xueyu’s group, Shen Haoran licked his lips and said proudly.

"Hmph. In that case, let me see what this ’substance’ of yours really is!" Elder Xue said with a sneer. He wanted to see just how far this kid could jump. He refused to believe this boy could really reach the realm of a Seventh Grade Alchemist in four years.

"Wait!" Just then, however, Shen Haoran stopped Elder Xue.

"What, are you scared? Or was all of that just empty bragging?" Yin Xueyu immediately taunted when he saw Shen Haoran stop Elder Xue.

"Scared?" Shen Haoran chuckled. "I just think this isn’t fun enough," he continued. "Why don’t we make a bet? If I win, you have to kneel before me and call me ’Grandpa’ twice. If I lose, you can do whatever you want with me. Kill me, cut me to pieces, it’s all up to you!"

"Fine! If you can pass the Seventh Grade Alchemist assessment, I’ll admit defeat!" Yin Xueyu agreed without a second thought. Yin Chuan had once told him how difficult it was to advance to Seventh Grade Alchemist. Countless Alchemy geniuses had been thwarted by that barrier, and he refused to believe someone like Shen Haoran could break through it.

"Excellent!" Hearing Yin Xueyu agree, a wicked smile spread across Shen Haoran’s lips. ’Since they look down on me, I have to teach them an unforgettable lesson. Otherwise, everyone will think I’m an easy target.’

"But a Seventh Grade Alchemist assessment requires a Vice Hall Master from the Medicine Hall to be present. Otherwise, we aren’t authorized to open the Seventh Grade assessment grounds!" Feng Li said with a frown.

"I will do it." Just then, an aged voice echoed through the great hall. Following the voice, an old woman emerged slowly from the depths of the hall, her steps faltering. Although she looked as if she could collapse at any moment, the bright glint in her eyes told everyone she was not as fragile as she appeared.

Seeing the old woman appear, everyone present was stunned for a moment before they immediately stepped forward and bowed. "Greetings, Vice Hall Master Ji!"
