Chasing His Ex: The Tycoon's Hidden Twins
Chapter 366 - 221: Even Jiang Sifan is Going to Call Him Dad?Chapter 366: Chapter 221: Even Jiang Sifan is Going to Call Him Dad?
Jiang Sifan felt his eyes start to burn.
He remembered when they were little; every time his sister fell, he was the one to help her up.
Every time his sister was bullied, he was the one who rushed out to stand in front of her.
He thought that as her big brother, it was just what he was supposed to do.
But now he realized there were some things a big brother couldn’t do.
Some words a big brother couldn’t say.
"I know." His voice was a little hoarse. "Get some rest."
"Okay. Good night, big brother."
After hanging up, Jiang Sifan sat at his desk, staring blankly out the window.
He hadn’t even noticed when the pen in his hand had fallen, and he didn’t bother to pick it up.
Wen Wan came in from outside, holding two cups of milk tea.
She placed one in front of him. Seeing his expression, she asked softly, "Class President, what’s wrong? You look awful."
Jiang Sifan shook his head and replied, "It’s nothing."
Wen Wan sat down across from him, not saying a word, just quietly sipping her milk tea.
She knew he would talk when he was ready.
Having been his partner for so long, she had long since learned to wait.
The studio was quiet, with only the ticking of the clock on the wall.
Sure enough, after a while, Jiang Sifan suddenly spoke, his voice low. "Wen Wan, Silu fell into the sea today."
Wen Wan nearly dropped her milk tea. Her face paled as she asked nervously, "What? Is she okay?"
"She’s fine. Someone rescued her," Jiang Sifan explained, shaking his head.
Wen Wan let out a breath of relief, but then asked curiously, "Who saved her?"
"My dad."
Wen Wan paused for a moment, then nodded. "It’s a good thing Uncle Lu was there."
"He rushed into the sea and pulled her out. Silu said his hands were shaking."
Wen Wan looked at him without a word.
Jiang Sifan added, "Silu also called him Dad."
Wen Wan’s eyes lit up. "Isn’t that a good thing?"
"It is a good thing."
Seeing his expression, Wen Wan gently probed, "Class President, what about you?"
Jiang Sifan gave a bitter smile, raising a hand to rub the spot between his eyebrows. "I don’t know."
Wen Wan didn’t ask any more questions, just sat with him in silence.
She knew that at times like this, words were useless. Just being there was enough.
After a long while, Jiang Sifan suddenly asked, "Wen Wan, do you think he sees me as ungrateful?"
Wen Wan looked up, a little surprised. "Why would you say that?"
"Silu called him Dad, but I still haven’t." Jiang Sifan’s voice was very low, as if he were talking to himself. "He’s done so much for me, and I can’t even bring myself to say a single ’thank you.’"
"The thing with Sister Jiali, the studio, and that time with Lin Qiang... When has he not been the one to help? I know it all perfectly well, I just can’t say it out loud."
Wen Wan looked at him and answered earnestly, "Class President, he won’t. Uncle Lu knows your personality. He won’t blame you. Think about it, if he were the type of person to hold a grudge over things like this, would he have been helping you quietly for so long?"
Jiang Sifan didn’t say anything in response.
Wen Wan explained further, "Besides, you already said thank you. You sent him a message, didn’t you? Uncle Lu definitely received it. Even though we didn’t see Uncle Lu himself when we visited the manor last time, I’m sure he knows your intentions. He’ll definitely understand. Yeah."
Listening to Wen Wan’s words, Jiang Sifan turned to look at her, a sudden warmth spreading through his heart.
He picked up his milk tea, took a sip, and stood up. "Come on, I’ll walk you back to your dorm."
Wen Wan nodded and stood up to gather her things.
The two left the studio, just like usual.
They rode their electric scooters through campus.
The night wind blew, cool and crisp.
Wen Wan, riding beside him, asked in a small voice, "Class President, have you ever considered that you might have forgiven him a long time ago?"
Jiang Sifan hit the brakes, surprised. "Why do you say that?"
"Because you don’t hate him anymore. When you hate someone, you don’t think about how much they’ve done for you. You don’t care if their hands are shaking. You don’t consider whether or not to call them by his title. You’d either take it all for granted or not think about it at all," Wen Wan explained after a moment’s thought.
Jiang Sifan fell silent.
He stared straight ahead, lost in thought.
Wen Wan continued, "The fact that you think about these things, that you care about them, means you don’t hate him anymore. You’re just fighting with yourself."
"When did you get so good with words? Weren’t you always the quiet type?" Jiang Sifan looked at her and suddenly started to laugh.
Wen Wan’s face flushed, and she looked down shyly. "I was just saying whatever came to mind."
"If you’re this good when you’re just ’saying whatever,’ imagine how amazing you’d be if you were serious," Jiang Sifan chuckled.
Wen Wan’s face turned even redder. She lowered her head, but the corners of her mouth secretly curled into a smile.
Jiang Sifan caught up to her and said no more, just continuing to ride.
They arrived in front of the women’s dormitory.
Wen Wan got off her scooter, turned to look at him, and said, "Good night, Class President."
Jiang Sifan smiled and said his farewell, "Good night."
Wen Wan turned and walked toward her dorm. After a few steps, she glanced back at him again.
Under the streetlight, her face was flushed, her eyes were bright, and her lips were slightly pursed, as if she had something to say but held it back.
Jiang Sifan waved at her.
Wen Wan waved back, then turned and ran into the dormitory building.
Jiang Sifan stood in place, watching her back disappear through the door. He remained there for a while before riding away.
After returning to the courtyard and parking his scooter,
Jiang Sifan didn’t hurry back to his dorm.
Instead, he sat down on the steps.
He took out his phone and scrolled to his text message history with Lu Fan.
Their last conversation was the "Thank you" he had sent, to which Lu Fan had replied, "You’re welcome."
His finger hovered over the input box for a long time.
He typed a few words, then deleted them.
Typed again, deleted again.
The light from the streetlamp shone on his phone screen, casting a long shadow.
Finally, he sent a message.
Jiang Sifan: [Silu said you saved her today. Thank you.]
After sending it, he put his phone away and quickened his pace toward the dorm.
Back in the dorm, Gao Lao and the others were playing video games.
They greeted him casually when they saw him come in.
Jiang Sifan grunted in acknowledgment, climbed onto his bed, and lay down.
His phone vibrated.
He picked it up and saw it was a reply from Lu Fan.
Lu Fan: [She’s my daughter. It was my duty to save her.]
Jiang Sifan stared at the message, silent for a long time.
He wanted to reply but didn’t know what to say.
He sent another message.
Jiang Sifan: [She called you Dad.]
The reply came quickly this time.
Lu Fan: [Yeah.]
Just one word.
Jiang Sifan stared at the word "Yeah" and suddenly found it a little funny.
’This guy... normally he’s so talkative and slick, but when it’s time to actually say something, he’s incredibly concise.’
He typed a few more words, hesitated, but sent it anyway.
Jiang Sifan: [Congratulations.]
After sending it, he placed his phone by his pillow and stared at the ceiling.
Those two words rolled around in his throat again and again.
It was like a piece of candy he’d been holding in his mouth for a long time, reluctant to swallow, yet afraid it would melt away.
He rolled over and buried his face in his pillow.
At this moment, Lu Fan naturally understood Jiang Sifan’s awkwardness.
He knew that in a situation like this, it was better to say less and let Jiang Sifan wrestle with his own feelings. That was the only way for him to truly understand what was in his heart.
After all, Jiang Sifan was only eighteen; you could say he embodied all the strengths and weaknesses of a young man.
Getting him to accept him the way Jiang Silu had would definitely not be so easy.
And sure enough, at that moment, Jiang Sifan didn’t know what to say and could only put his phone aside.
Just then, He Lingyi sent him a message.
He opened it.
It was a photo.
’Why is she dressed like that for no reason?’
’And she sent it to me, of all people.’
Just as he was reeling from the shock, He Lingyi sent a message: [Brother Sifan, do you like my Christmas outfit? Tomorrow is Christmas Eve, and my roommate just happened to buy this, so I thought I’d try it on for you. This is the first time I’ve ever sent a picture of myself in a costume to a guy, you know~]
Jiang Sifan couldn’t help but swallow as he looked at He Lingyi’s outstanding figure in the Christmas outfit.
He immediately replied: [Pretty.]
He Lingyi: [Heehee, Brother Sifan, if you think it’s pretty, I’ll wear it for you in person after I graduate!]
After seeing this message, Jiang Sifan had to admit he was a little tempted. He actually started looking forward to the day He Lingyi graduated.
After all, who could refuse a costume request from a beautiful, eighteen-year-old girl who liked him...
