Chapter 120: Chapter 120

Lena’s POV

Eliza was wearing a fitted black dress that hugged her figure just right. Chin up, back straight, every step smooth and effortless—she looked polished from head to toe, the kind of woman who turned heads without even trying.

She knew exactly how attractive she was, and she owned it like it was second nature.

"Wasn’t Luke kicked out of this territory?" Anna frowned, clearly confused. "So how is he with Eliza?"

I had nothing to say.

Was this really just a coincidence, or was someone pulling strings?

"Dominic’s ex, and that Beta who’s been obsessing over you." Anna shook her head, looking genuinely speechless. "This world is seriously messed up. But... does this mean Eliza’s finally going to leave Dominic alone?"

"Who knows."

I had no idea whether the two of them knew anything about each other’s history. But honestly, it didn’t matter. None of this had anything to do with me.

Dominic had been calling me nonstop. My phone kept buzzing in my pocket over and over, like it refused to quit, until the screen finally went dark and the battery died.

"He’s calling me now." Anna pulled out her phone and held it in front of me. "Maybe you should answer. What if something actually happened?"

I didn’t buy that for a second. "Then you answer it."

Anna could tell he wasn’t about to give up. If she ignored it, he’d just keep going and her phone would be next on the hit list anyway.

She answered and turned on speaker. "Hello? Alpha?"

"Put Lena on." Dominic’s voice was steady and controlled. He didn’t sound angry at all, not even after being ignored this long.

Anna covered the phone and whispered, "He really wants to talk to you."

I frowned. "No."

"Just answer. You’re out here, not at home. He can’t exactly do anything from a distance." She pushed the phone into my hand.

She had a point. I took it, pressed it to my ear, and said in a flat, detached voice, "What?"

"Not coming back?" he asked, calm as ever.

"I’m not coming back right now," Lena shot back. "Are you still at my place?"

"You wanted to talk about the agreement, didn’t you?"

Her stomach tightened on the spot.

"You’ve got thirty minutes. If you miss it, I won’t bring this up again."

His voice was easy, almost lazy, like he had all the time in the world. Before she could say anything else, he ended the call.

Anna caught the shift in her expression right away. "What happened? What did he say?"

Lena handed the phone back. "I need to go home."

She didn’t let Anna drive her. She flagged down a cab, rode back to the building, and asked the driver for the time before getting out.

There were still ten minutes left before Dominic’s deadline. She had no intention of rushing for him.

She stepped out of the elevator, drew in a slow breath, and unlocked the door.

The living room was empty. The bedroom door was still shut. His shoes were by the entrance.

She walked to the bedroom and pushed the door open.

He was stretched out on the bed. The blanket rested low on his waist, his long legs extending past the edge. His chest was bare, both arms tucked behind his head, eyes closed like he was dead asleep.

"Dominic." She said his name sharply.

Sleeping or not, he was going to keep his word.

No answer.

She moved closer and raised her voice. "Cut the act."

He still didn’t open his eyes.

She grabbed the edge of the blanket and yanked it off in one hard pull. One glance was all it took for heat to rush straight to her face.

She threw the blanket back over him so fast it landed in a wrinkled heap. Then he opened his eyes and caught every bit of her reaction.

Then his arm shot out. His fingers locked around Lena’s wrist and gave one hard tug.

She stumbled straight into his chest. His arms closed around her back at once, pinning her firmly against him.

His voice brushed her ear, low and warm. "When I was a kid, my mother taught me one thing. If you cross a line, you take responsibility for it. You’re responsible."

Responsible.

Pressed tight to him, Lena’s cheek against his skin, she could hear his heartbeat pounding near her ear, strong and steady. Her face went burning hot.

He was lying naked in her bed, holding her like he had no intention of letting go, and somehow her mind was still clear enough to think. "So what exactly are you saying? Are we ending the agreement or not?"

"No." He answered without even a second of hesitation.

Lena tried to push herself up. His arm didn’t move an inch. "You promised me."

"Ask for anything else, and I’ll give it to you. But not this." His tone was firm, but his voice stayed maddeningly gentle. "I told you before. Unless I stop breathing, this between us is not over."

She had to admit it. That line still hit way too hard.

But words like that were meant for two people who actually loved each other. It was a promise and a confession rolled into one sentence.

"If two people don’t even have feelings for each other, forcing themselves to stick to some deal is just asking for drama." Lena worked to keep her breathing even, trying not to lose the thread of the calm conversation she’d planned. "What’s the point?"

"You’re forgetting something."

"What?"

"We’ve slept together. And we fit."

Her whole body went rigid. Heat rushed from her neck right up to her ears.

He noticed immediately. His hand slid to her back, slowly tracing circles over the fabric. Her lower stomach tightened too, all at once.

"Don’t move your hand."

He stopped. His palm stayed flat against her spine. Through the thin material of her shirt, the heat of his skin kept sinking into her, spreading little by little through her whole body.

"So yeah, this agreement means something." He pulled her closer, holding her tighter, and the solid weight of his arm around her made her feel weirdly grounded, weirdly safe.

I remembered what he’d said before. He said he couldn’t be with someone he felt nothing for.

He also said we’d been together before.

My heart started hammering.

"We’re not ending this." He brushed a soft kiss against my ear.

So that was it. He wanted me to understand. He was trying to tell me how he really felt.

My thoughts were a total mess. I’d never imagined this thing between us would last this long. After he got the curse under control and came back, this should’ve been over.

But it wasn’t over. We were still in this.

How much longer could we even keep this going?

"Hm?" When I didn’t say anything, he patted my back lightly. "Answer me."

I had no idea what to say.

"Fine. We don’t break up." I forced my voice steady. "But I’m not going to sit there and watch Eliza hanging around you."

I hadn’t had time to brush this off before, but if this was real, then he needed to hear me loud and clear. I would never tolerate that woman showing up whenever she wanted and leaving whenever she felt like it.

His arms tightened around me. "There’s nothing between me and her."

"But you’re not going to completely cut her off, right?"

I’d dealt with Eliza enough times to know Dominic would never fully sever ties with her.

"I won’t see her unless it’s necessary."

"What does necessary mean?" I wasn’t picking a fight for no reason. I needed to know what exactly they were to each other.

He loosened his hold.

I braced my hands on either side of him, lifted my head, and looked straight into his eyes, reading every tiny shift in his expression. Waiting.

His jaw went tight. I pushed myself up a little, and a bitter, cold smile tugged at the corner of my mouth.

"What kind of look is that?" Dominic caught Lena by the wrist, tugged her back, then rolled and pinned her beneath him. "How about this—we make a deal. If I ever need to see her again, I’ll tell you first."

He shifted and pressed her into the mattress, the blanket trapped under her while he stayed above it. His bare chest, his bare arms, every strip of exposed skin stayed outside the covers. Other than staring straight at his face, she had nowhere else to look.

Lena forced herself to push those images out of her head. She refused to fold. "What exactly did she do for you? You keep saying you don’t love her, but you still can’t let her go. What, did she save your life or something?"

"You know I don’t love her. That should be enough."

"Let me go." His weight was making it impossible for her to think straight.

He didn’t move. His hand slid down over hers, his fingers threading through hers, his thumb brushing slowly over the bare skin of her ring finger. "Put it back on."

"No." Right now, she didn’t want to give him anything.

His explanation about Eliza was nowhere near enough.

He let out a breath through his nose. "Then don’t wear it." His thumb pressed against her ring finger as he tightened his grip on her hand. "Doesn’t change a thing. You’re mine."

Her heart slammed wildly against her ribs, so hard it felt like it might jump right out through her teeth.
