Chapter 125: Chapter 125
Lena’s POV
Men always had this weird competitive streak. They could turn the tiniest, dumbest thing into a battle and nitpick it to death. At the end of the day, they were still kind of childish.
She really didn’t want to keep going in circles with him, but Dominic wouldn’t budge.
They just stood there like that until she finally hit her limit. "Fine. You win. You’re the best. Happy now?"
"That doesn’t sound sincere at all."
"What exactly do you want from me?" Her patience snapped clean in half. "You’re being ridiculous. Move."
She reached out, trying to shove him aside.
He didn’t move an inch, solid as a wall.
"Are you even planning to leave this apartment today or not?"
"I don’t care." He lifted a brow as he watched her lose her cool, looking way too calm for someone being this annoying.
Neither of them had anything to do anyway. He could keep this nonsense up all day if he wanted.
She shoved him hard.
In the next second, he caught her, both arms locking around her and hauling her tight against his chest.
"Dominic!" she snapped, grinding out his name through clenched teeth.
He lowered his head and looked at her as she struggled in his arms. Her face was burning red, her body twisting against him, but he still didn’t let go.
She was trapped in the narrow space between his chest and his forearms, and every movement only pressed her closer to him.
The heat between them spiked fast.
Her thin camisole did basically nothing to block the contact. She could feel the hard lines of his abs against her.
His breathing turned rough too. His cock pressed against her stomach, already hardening.
"Don’t move." His voice had changed—lower now, rough and husky.
"Let me go." She could barely move at all. She could feel him sealed against her, thick and hard, and if she shifted even a little, both of them would lose this fight.
He let out a hard breath through gritted teeth, his chest pressed tight against Lena’s, so close she could almost count the tiny pauses between every breath he took.
Dominic lowered his eyes to her face. Lena froze on the spot, fingers twisted tight in his shirt.
"When does this end?" His voice came out rough and hoarse, and she had no answer for him.
He dipped his head. His lips brushed softly over her forehead, and she heard him swallow. In the silence between them, that small sound landed absurdly loud.
The heat of his mouth spread through her in an instant, slipping into every nerve, setting her blood on fire, like she was burning from the inside out.
She was this close to falling apart. Embarrassing, honestly. Still, she held on. "Let me go first."
His palm settled flat against her waist. Then he kissed her.
Lena’s eyes flew open. His hand lifted and covered them, wordless, like he was telling her to shut them and stop overthinking.
He kissed her slowly, gently, with maddening patience. Every touch of his lips felt like a quiet temptation, coaxing her open, dragging her deeper bit by bit. The tension slowly drained from her body until she found herself leaning into him without thinking, her weight sinking against his chest, kissing him back before she could even pretend not to.
Her arms slid up around his shoulders, then around his neck. The kiss deepened, stretched longer and longer, until the line between him and her blurred completely.
By the time they finally pulled apart, she was practically hanging off him, breathing hard, lips swollen and numb. Even her legs had gone weak.
Dominic laughed and scooped her up. "You know, after a kiss, people usually go all soft. Like their bones just quit."
Lena didn’t even have the energy to fight him. She just leaned against his chest. "Then what are you made of? Rock?"
"More or less."
She was too drained to even process whatever that was supposed to mean.
She had planned to change and head out. Instead, she ended up back on the bed, staring at the ceiling, his lingering warmth still clinging to her lips.
Meanwhile, Dominic looked annoyingly refreshed. He stood in front of her in his sleepwear, bent down, and tucked the hair by her cheek behind her ear. "Want to go out?"
"Where?" she asked with her eyes still closed.
The feeling from that kiss was still spreading in her chest—that strange, two-way pull, like they were holding each other up without saying it. She was scared that if she opened her eyes, it would disappear.
So she wanted to keep that moment a little longer, just a little, even if it might not have been real at all.
"Aren’t you hungry?" Dominic caught her by the wrist, his fingers warm and firm. "Come on. Let’s get something to eat."
Lena really was hungry, so she opened her eyes and looked at him. "Right, I forgot to ask. Where did you go last night?"
"You still remember that?" He let out a low chuckle, the kind that sounded half amused, half helpless. "Women really do remember everything."
"So?" she pressed.
"I went to see Eliza."
His honesty hit her so fast she almost froze. For a second, Lena didn’t even know how to react. Her thoughts tangled up in her head as she tried to figure out what to ask next.
"You’re not going to ask what I went there for?" he said, smoothly picking up where she had stalled.
Lena suddenly remembered the scene at the mall, Eliza standing there with Luke. Her brows pulled together. "Were you worried Luke might take advantage of her?"
Dominic gave a cold scoff, like the idea itself was ridiculous. "She’s almost thirty. If she gets played, that’s on her."
Lena studied his face carefully. His attitude toward Eliza really had changed. It wasn’t like before.
She wasn’t that important to him anymore. Lena could feel it, clear as day.
"Then why did you go?"
"To tell her not to cross the line." He pulled Lena up from where she sat, then handed her the clothes she had been holding the whole time. "Go get changed. We’re heading out."
She stayed there for a moment, quietly processing what he had just said.
Not to cross the line.
What exactly had Eliza done?
"Out. I need to change." Lena didn’t keep digging.
After changing, she walked back out. Dominic was sitting on the sofa, but the second he saw her, he turned and stood, then came straight toward her.
He took her right hand and slid something onto her ring finger.
Lena lowered her gaze.
It was a ring.
Instinctively, Lena tried to pull her hand back. But Dominic held on tight, not letting her budge.
"We should start acting like a real couple," he said as he settled the ring onto her finger. Before she could reach for it with her other hand, he laced their fingers together, locking her ring hand firmly in his. "Otherwise people are going to think the Alpha of Bloodmoon Pack can’t even afford a ring."
He walked her all the way to the door. With his free hand, he picked up her bag, then kept holding her hand as he led her through the hall and into the garage.
He only let go when he opened the car door.
The whole time, Lena had been holding onto the ring like it might disappear. At last, she looked up at him and smiled. "You do know that whole performance was kind of pointless, right?"
She lifted her right hand and gave the ring on her finger a little shake. "I could take it off right now. Same result."
His face darkened on the spot. But honestly, she had only meant to tease him.
She got into the car, fastened her seat belt, then looked at him when she realized he was still standing outside. "Are we leaving or what?"
His gaze flicked to her hand. The ring was still there. The tension in his face eased a little.
The drive was quiet. Lena, on the other hand, was in a pretty good mood. She kept turning the ring around her finger, sneaking glances at him every now and then.
His expression looked awful.
It had just been a joke. Seriously, just a joke. But ever since they came out of the garage, he had been sitting there sulking like crazy.
"I saw Eliza with Luke," she said on purpose, breaking the silence. "Luke’s not a good guy. Aren’t you worried she’ll get hurt?"
"Don’t bring up people who don’t matter."
Lena turned to stare at him, genuinely caught off guard.
Sure, Luke didn’t matter. But since when did Eliza not matter either?
"Fine. If you don’t want to hear it, I won’t say more. But if Luke hurts Eliza and she comes running back to you in tears, that’s exactly what I’m trying to prevent."
She slowly turned the ring again, feeling its weight against her skin. "The second you put this ring on my hand, it meant you’re responsible for me. I’m not generous, and I’m definitely not some saint. I don’t want other women getting close to you."
She wasn’t some holy person. If Eliza got played by Luke, that was none of her business.
But if Eliza used that as an excuse to come back to Dominic, then yeah, that was absolutely her business.
