Chapter 128: Chapter 128
Lena’s POV
If he wanted to dig up old dirt, fine. She could dig too.
Dominic’s brows pulled tight. Lena gave a cold little scoff. If he seriously wanted to compare blackmail material, his pile was way bigger than hers.
She just usually chose not to go there. If she did, he wouldn’t be having such an easy time.
The car rolled into the underground garage. He parked. She unbuckled her seat belt and shoved at the door.
It wouldn’t open. He’d locked it.
"Open the door."
"Do you like watching the sunrise?" he asked, tone casual, like he was chatting about the weather.
She turned that sentence over in her head again and again, trying to figure out what game he was playing. Her brows knitted. "Yeah. Why? You about to tell me I’m not allowed to look at that too?"
He glanced at her, gripped the key, then backed the car out and drove straight out of the garage.
"What are you doing?" She grabbed the handle above the window.
"Put your seat belt on."
"Where are you taking me?"
The car wound along the mountain road, then stopped at the same lookout point where Jace had once brought her to watch the sunrise.
"Dominic, are you out of your mind?"
She didn’t get out. It was the middle of the night. Sunrise was still hours away.
He took the keys and stepped out. Standing at the edge of the open ground, he looked out at the view. There was nothing to see except a few scattered lights from the town below.
This was the exact place where she’d taken the sunrise photo she posted on social media. He’d tracked the location.
He walked to the front of the car, turned his back to her, and leaned against the hood.
Lena stayed in the passenger seat, arms folded tight across her chest, glaring at him through the windshield. He didn’t turn around.
"This is seriously insane." Lena was still fuming and refused to get out of the car.
The chilly wind of early autumn slipped in through the half-open window, so cold it made the fine hairs on her arms stand up.
She pulled out her phone and texted Anna, unloading hard about what Dominic had just done.
Anna replied almost right away. 【He’s trying to erase the memory of you being with another guy. Lena, he’s fallen for you~】
Lena stared at the message, her heart giving a sudden jump.
Dominic loved her?
She lifted her head. He had his back to her, his broad shoulders cut into a sharp outline beneath the night sky.
The wind stirred his hair. Even through the car window, even while she was still mad as hell, she could feel that pull coming off him.
Love? That felt like a stretch.
Maybe obsession. Definitely possessiveness.
The mountain was dead quiet, nothing but the wind brushing through the trees. She lowered her seat and leaned back. Through the windshield, she kept watching his figure.
Eliza’s POV
Two bends below the summit, our car was pulled over on the shoulder.
I sat in the passenger seat. I didn’t have the nerve to drive any farther up.
"You’ve been tailing him all day." Luke rolled down the window, smoke curling from the cigarette between his fingers. He shot me a mocking glance. "If you’re still that into him, why’d you leave in the first place?"
Everybody knew what happened. After Dominic’s curse was confirmed, I left. I bonded with Marcus and walked away from this territory without looking back.
I said nothing.
Luke flicked ash out the window. "You two had a thing once, sure, but too bad you’re not as pretty as Lena. Just being real, don’t get mad."
No one had ever compared me to another woman to my face and flat-out said I lost.
I glared at him. "If she’s so gorgeous, why didn’t you keep her? She’s someone else’s mate now, and you’re still sitting here with me. You didn’t fight for her because you couldn’t. Dominic said one word and you got kicked out of the territory. Now you’re back, and you still don’t dare do a damn thing. Admit it. You’re scared of him. Your whole family is scared of him."
Luke’s face darkened. He flicked his cigarette away, then suddenly raised his hand and slapped me hard.
The hit made my skull ring. My ears buzzed like crazy. Blood seeped from the corner of my mouth. The metallic taste on my tongue was the last straw. I just snapped.
I lunged at him and clawed at his face. But he was bigger than me, way stronger, all hard muscle. He caught my wrists, shoved me back into the seat, and pinned me down with his weight.
"I didn’t get to touch Dominic’s precious little mate," he said, breathing rough, eyes vicious. "Guess I’ll have to make do with his leftovers."
He jammed his knee between my legs and grabbed the neckline of my dress.
I scratched, bit, kicked, fought like hell. Every time his hand came near my face, I sank my teeth into it as hard as I could. He slapped me again, and the whole left side of my face went numb.
When his hand went to his belt and he yanked up my dress, I reached down through his pants and grabbed him with everything I had.
His scream exploded through the car. He doubled over to the side, face white, sweat breaking across his forehead.
I shoved the door open and ran.
Uphill. Toward the summit. Dominic was the only person I knew who could protect me.
I ran and screamed for help at the same time, my bare feet slapping against the freezing asphalt. "Help—"
Lena’s POV
The car window was cracked open. Through the dark, Lena heard someone screaming.
Her hand moved to the door handle. But Dominic was already in motion. He came straight toward her, pressed a firm hand against the car door, and said, "Stay in the car. Don’t get out."
Then he passed the car and headed up the road. Lena sat there, tense and restless.
The screams were getting closer. A woman’s voice, raw and ragged with panic.
Lena’s heartbeat kicked hard. They were on a mountain in the middle of the night, deep in thick woods, with no one else around. She wasn’t naive enough to think nothing bad could happen in a place this isolated.
She searched the whole car, looking for anything she could use as a weapon, but found nothing. Then she looked out the window. A few feet away, there was a rock on the ground, big enough to do some damage. She got out and picked it up.
By then, Dominic had already reached the woman.
She was stumbling uphill, hair a mess, dress torn, glancing back every few steps like something was still chasing her. The second she saw Dominic, she choked on a sob and cried out his name.
"Dominic..."
She pitched forward, and he caught her before she hit the ground. That was when Lena saw her face.
None of them had expected to run into Eliza on this mountain, let alone like this.
Her cheek was swollen and angry red. Her lip was split, the blood already dried into a dark crust. Hurt was written all over her body.
There was no time to ask why she was here. Dominic lifted her into the car, and Lena yanked open the back door while he helped her inside.
Eliza was holding herself together by a thread. She wasn’t crying yet, but her whole body shook. Her eyes were wide, panic-struck, like danger was still right behind her.
Dominic tried to pull away, but Eliza clung to him like her life depended on it.
“Don’t go!” Her voice cracked with raw fear, and tears spilled out all at once. “Please, don’t leave me!”
Lena looked at her, at the torn collar hanging open, the bare skin of her shoulder, the bruises already rising along her arm.
“Stay with her,” Lena said to Dominic. “Let her calm down first.”
He climbed into the back seat. Eliza immediately pressed herself against him, both hands locked around his arm, her head dropped onto his shoulder, still trembling all over.
Lena noticed the tear in her dress, the way half her chest had been left exposed. She pulled off her coat and draped it over her, then shot Dominic a quick look.
His face was hard and cold. He didn’t look at Eliza.
Lena stood outside the open car door, glancing back at them every few seconds.
Eliza had her eyes shut now, leaning against Dominic. Maybe she’d drifted off.
Tears tracked down her cheeks. Blood slid from her chin. Her face was swollen, red, battered everywhere.
Lena’s chest tightened for her.
She didn’t care who Eliza was, and she didn’t care what she’d done. What happened to her tonight was something no woman should ever have to go through. Alone in the dark, on a mountain road, trapped with a man strong enough to overpower her.
Lena didn’t like Eliza. She didn’t want her anywhere near Dominic. But that didn’t mean she wanted her hurt.
There would be no sunrise tonight.
“We should head down, right?” Lena asked Dominic.
"Yeah." He glanced at Eliza, his face unreadable. "Get her down there. I’ll drive."
Lena climbed into the back seat and reached out, meaning to ease Eliza out of Dominic’s arms and let her lean against her shoulder instead. But the second her fingers brushed Eliza, the woman jerked like she’d been electrocuted, clinging to Dominic with both hands. Her whole body was shaking, and her voice came out thin and broken. "No, don’t, please... don’t do that..."
Whether Eliza was putting on a show or genuinely terrified, Lena didn’t push it.
If this was an act, then Eliza had really hit a new low—so desperate for pity she had to humiliate herself for it. Honestly, that was just sad, and Lena had zero interest in competing with that.
And if it was real, then right now, Eliza needed him more than Lena did.
