Chapter 13: Chapter 13

Lena’s POV

I’d been stuck in bed for three whole days, just staring at the ceiling, eating whatever the servants brought up, and waiting for the bruises on my body to fade on their own.

One of the servants told me Ivy and her little squad got punished, but nothing serious. Her dad’s the old beta of the pack, and clearly his years of loyalty were enough to buy his daughter a slap-on-the-wrist.

All she got was an order to stay away from me. That’s it.

Even so, someone still stepped up for me. Someone actually decided I was worth protecting. Before coming to the Bloodmoon Pack, I honestly couldn’t remember the last time anyone had done that. That warm, floaty feeling in my stomach just wouldn’t go away.

By day three, I couldn’t lie around anymore. I texted Anna and told her to meet me on the commercial street.

When I got there, she was already waiting outside a café, arms crossed, eyeing me from head to toe.

"You sure you’re okay?" She grabbed my chin, tilting my face left, then right.

I gently swatted her hand away. "If I wasn’t okay, I wouldn’t be standing here ready to shop with you. Can we please go look at clothes now?"

Anna narrowed her eyes but dropped it. We walked into a boutique, the air thick with the smell of pricey leather and cedar. Celeste’s black card sat quietly in my wallet like a grenade—full of explosive spending power I still wasn’t used to.

I had just taken a wool coat off the rack when a voice behind me hit me like a bucket of ice water.

"Oh my god. You’re still alive?"

That familiar voice made me turn around. Lily stood about six feet away, a shopping bag dangling from her wrist, her mouth hanging open in fake shock.

"Dad was already picking out a headstone for you," she said, quickly recovering. Once the pretend shock faded, that classic smug grin slid onto her face. "Look at you. Buying clothes. Are you sure you’re Lena? The Lena I know would never show up somewhere like this."

Anna straightened up and stepped forward. "Lily, watch your mouth. She’s Dominic Voss’s Luna now."

Lily burst out laughing—loud enough that half the store turned to look.

"Luna? A breeder calling herself a Luna? Funniest thing I’ve heard all year." She wiped the corners of her eyes. "Where’s your mark, Lena?" She pointed at my bare neck. "Dominic didn’t mark you, and there was no ceremony. So sweetheart, you’re just a body that happened to survive the night."

She took another step closer, her voice sharp and cutting. "Wanna know what everyone really thinks? They’re all waiting for him to toss you out. Seriously, Lena. Why are you trying so hard to stay alive? Your dad doesn’t want you. Your ex didn’t want you. Dominic won’t want you either. You’re just a weak little omega—no wolf, no mark, no future. Clinging to a life that doesn’t want you is just pathetic."

Her perfume hit me—some expensive floral blend. My father’s money bought that bottle.

"Do everyone a favor, Lena," Lily hissed. "End yourself before the whole world tells you to. Don’t make us watch you fail. Okay?"

Anna’s fists were clenched so tight her knuckles had gone pale. I could practically feel the fury rolling off her. She looked one second away from launching herself at Lily.

I pressed my hand on her arm and said firmly, "Don’t."

Then I looked straight at Lily. That cruel smirk on her face... yeah, I knew it all too well. I’d grown up drowning in that same expression.

It used to crush me, leave me curled up on the icy floor of that tiny room, wondering if she was right—if disappearing would make everything easier.

But something inside me had shifted. Luna Celeste had treated me with real kindness, not like I was just some tool. And Anna—my friend—had stood by me through every unfair moment, ready to fight the whole world for me if she had to.

I wasn’t going to bow to Lily. Not anymore.

I lifted my hand and slapped Lily across the face.

The crack echoed through the boutique. Her head snapped to the side, and she stumbled into a row of silk blouses. Hangers clattered to the marble floor like falling dominoes.

"Shit—"

"This is the second time I’ve slapped you." My hand burned, but I shook it off. "The first was for insulting my mom. This time? You ruined my mood."

Whatever insult Lily was about to spit out died in her throat. She touched her flaming cheek, eyes wide like she couldn’t believe what just happened. In her memory, the Lena she bullied would never hit back.

"And one more thing." I stepped over the mess of hangers and stopped right in front of her. "All that garbage you spew? Don’t think the Moon Goddess is just gonna let it slide. You will pay for this. It might not be today, but the bill always comes due."

People around us had all turned to look. Lily had never been this humiliated in public, and shock twisted quickly into rage. She lunged at me with a snarl. "You’re insane—"

Before she could reach me, someone grabbed her wrist.

Daniel—Dominic’s beta. Tall, broad-shouldered, sharp jawline, and annoyingly handsome, like he’d walked out of a magazine spread.

He held Lily’s wrist effortlessly, like it weighed nothing, and glanced down at her with an icy stare.

"Let go of me!" Lily struggled hard, but it was pointless.

"You crossed a line," Daniel said, voice low and absolute. "From now on, you’re banned from this boutique. If I see you step inside again, I’ll have guards escort you out. Clear?"

Lily’s face drained instantly. This boutique was a status symbol. Getting banned was basically a public slap in the face—one the whole social circle would gossip about.

The moment Daniel released her, she jerked free, her chest rising and falling as she glared at me. The hatred in her eyes was so thick I could almost taste it.

"I’m telling my dad," she rasped, her voice rough like it had been scraped with sandpaper. "Once he finds out, you can wait to be dealt with. You’ll definitely regret not listening to me."

She snatched up her shopping bag and stormed out, her heels pounding against the floor, loud enough for the entire store to hear.

The boutique went dead silent. The customers who had been pretending to browse suddenly became deeply invested in studying scarves and bags, as if they had just turned into priceless artifacts.

I let out a long breath. My palm was still tingling, but seeing the bright red slap mark on Lily’s face... totally worth it.

"Thank you," I said, turning to Daniel.

He just replied coolly, "Alpha Dominic asked me to keep an eye on this area. I’m just following orders."

Dominic’s orders. My stomach flipped like it had been brushed by warm air—absolutely not the reaction I expected.

I opened my mouth, wanting to say something more, but suddenly no words came out. Because Daniel wasn’t looking at me anymore.

He was staring at Anna.

And Anna... was staring right back.

The air between them shifted instantly. Anna’s lips parted, her pupils dilated, and the fists she had been clenching relaxed.

Daniel—Daniel, who had just handled Lily like she was nothing more than background noise—had gone completely rigid. His eyes were filled with that raw, unmistakable shock, like he’d been struck by lightning.

My gaze bounced between them.

Then a thought exploded into my mind.

Oh my god—

They’re mates?!
