Chapter 27: Chapter 27

Samuel’s POV

The past couple of weeks nearly drove me out of my mind.

Dominic, that absolute maniac, had been dragging Daniel and me into brutal combat training every single day. He claimed it was all so we could hold him back during the full moon, keep his wild side from hurting anyone. Noble reason, sure—except in reality he was just using us as punching bags.

My ribs still ached, and poor Daniel was even worse off; yesterday Dominic had landed a punch that nearly made him cough up blood.

"For the safety of the Bloodmoon Pack."

Yeah, that had been his signature line every time he knocked us flat. Screw that. I was pretty sure the guy had just been venting.

By tonight, I’d had enough. I needed somewhere to blow off steam.

Correction—I needed a gorgeous she-wolf to take home and help me unload two weeks’ worth of stress and frustration.

The bar’s terrace was a lot quieter than the dance floor. I let my gaze sweep around, and that was when I saw her—the Omega.

She was leaning against the railing, chin resting on her hand, quietly watching the city lights. In a place drowning in hormones and noise, she stood out instantly—like a calm, blooming flower in the middle of chaos.

Perfect. She was the one.

I straightened my shirt, adjusted my silver-framed glasses, and walked straight over.

"Hope I’m not bothering you. I just couldn’t resist coming over to say hi."

I gave her a polite smile and held out my hand. "I’m Samuel Clarke, Alpha of the Moontide Pack. May I know your name?"

She glanced at my hand—hesitated for just a second—then lightly shook it. "Hi, I’m Lena."

Her voice was softer than I expected. I repeated it, tasting the name. "Lena. Pretty name. You here alone?"

"I’m out with coworkers. Just stepped out for some air." Her answer was short, and her eyes flicked back to my face with quiet curiosity. "So... what do you need from me?"

Direct. I liked that.

She was an Omega, sure, but not the type who flashed a fake sweet smile the moment a guy approached.

She wasn’t trying to play cold, either—no pretending, no games. What I felt from her was a calmness so natural it made you want to test it, crack it open, see what was hiding underneath.

I let my smile deepen and softened my tone. "Honestly, I just thought it’d be a shame for someone as lovely as you to stand out here freezing all by yourself."

Her lips curved slightly, a tiny smile—but damn, even that brief flash was enough to make my heartbeat trip.

That spark only fueled the desire curling in my chest.

A cool, quiet beauty like her... once she melts under me, once she completely gives in—that’s the kind of victory a man remembers.

A wild thought popped into my head—honestly, more like some random nerve suddenly twitched and triggered a mischievous impulse.

I was totally gonna bring her to Dominic, let that guy take a good look at the treasure I picked up tonight. Also to remind him that not everyone is as blind to pretty women as he is.

"The terrace gets pretty chilly at night, huh?" I said casually, pointing toward our private room and laying my real intention out in the open. "I’ve got a friend over there... wanna come hang out for a bit?"

I wasn’t expecting her to say yes on the first try. Normally any woman should have some guard up around a stranger. But Lena barely hesitated before she answered, "Sure."

I did freeze for a moment, but either way, things were going exactly the way I wanted. Looked like tonight was about to get very interesting.

Feeling ridiculously pleased, I curled my lips into a grin and led the way like a gentleman. "Then right this way."

By the time we reached the door of the private room, I could already imagine what kind of expression Dominic’s grumpy face would twist into. I pushed the door open and walked straight in. Dominic was sitting on the middle sofa, and Daniel was quietly perched beside him like a shadow.

The moment I stepped inside, Dominic’s gaze swept toward me. I raised my brows, full of smugness, just waiting for him to see who I brought.

Then I got ready to formally introduce Lena to him. "Look, Dominic. This is Lena. I—"

My hand instinctively reached toward the small of her back, as naturally as I would with any she-wolf before.

But at that very second, quiet and reserved Daniel suddenly spoke, using a voice that was clear and almost absurdly respectful.

"Luna."

My hand froze midair, my whole body locking up.

Luna? What Luna? Who was he talking to?

My first reaction was to glance back—the door was shut tight; there was no one behind us. There was no other she-wolf here except Lena...

A strange, creeping realization crawled up my spine. Like jammed gears, I slowly followed Daniel’s gaze. He was staring at Lena—the woman standing next to me, the woman I’d just met minutes ago, the unrealistically beautiful Lena. Daniel never joked about things like this.

And Dominic, sitting on the sofa, didn’t say a single word. He just watched me and Lena with those cold gray eyes, as if waiting for me to catch up.

My brain completely crashed for a few seconds.

Luna?

Lena is... Dominic’s Luna?!

Dominic’s POV

For the past half month, it’s basically been me, Daniel, and Samuel beating the crap out of each other on the training grounds. I’m trying to get their combat skills up; when the full moon hits, I need them strong enough to pin me down. I can’t... I can’t keep letting innocent wolves die because of me.

I hate myself for it. Hate that I’m not strong enough to shake off the monster in my bones. Every time the full moon passes and I see the wreckage I left behind, there’s this moment where I honestly want to just end it. But I can’t. I still have responsibilities. I still have a pack to protect.

Of course, me avoiding Lena has another reason too—something in me has been shifting, and I know it. Eliza came to find me several times during this period, and I turned her away every single time. I used to think helping her would patch up the wound she left. Seeing her regret, seeing her crawl back... I thought that would fix me.

But the truth? After Lena arrived, I barely even remembered Eliza existed. No matter what I’m doing, her face slips into my mind—those stubborn eyes, that quiet smile, even the way she snaps when she’s mad. All of it is stuck in my head like it’s carved there.

My mom said she was special. And yeah, Lena’s beautiful—but I’ve seen plenty of beautiful she-wolves. What I can’t ignore is what’s inside her—one of the purest, kindest hearts I’ve ever encountered. Luke hurt her over and over, and she still begged me to spare him. She never once asked me to take revenge on her parents.

She trusts people way too easily. Just because my mom said a few nice words, she agreed to help me. What an idiot. And yet the full moon is only half a month away, and she insisted on staying by my side that night. No way. There’s no world where I let her get anywhere near me during a full moon. On that night, nobody gets close—not even her.

Out of nowhere, Samuel’s fist smashed right into my jaw, and at the same time Daniel’s kick slammed into my ribs. I didn’t see it coming at all—I hit the ground hard.

"Shit!" I roared, trying to push myself up, ready to strike back.

"Enough, Dominic!" Daniel panted, leaning over with his hands on his knees. "We’re done for today! You’re fighting like a damn maniac. We need a break!"

Samuel wiped the sweat from his forehead. "Dude, we need a night off. Let’s hit a bar, grab some drinks, chill out."

I got up slowly, testing my jaw, which was throbbing like hell. Maybe they were right. Maybe I did need to cool down.

"Fine," I muttered.

I completely ignored the idea of telling Lena where I was going. Honestly, it wasn’t an accident—I did it on purpose. I needed to get my head back under control. Before I can give my heart to her, she has to be absolutely sure she wants it. Only then will the monster inside me stop tearing itself apart, terrified of being betrayed again.

We headed to a bar downtown, picked a booth tucked in a dark corner. The music was loud enough to rattle your bones, the lights a blur of neon—exactly the kind of noise I needed.

We’d barely sat down before Samuel lit up like he’d found buried treasure. "Bro, I swear I just saw the hottest she-wolf outside. Blonde, blue eyes, killer body—like straight-up angel-tier!"

"Not interested," I said flatly, downing my whiskey in one shot.

Daniel chuckled. "Dominic’s a taken man now."

"Oh please," Samuel snorted. "They’re not even actual mates."

I ignored both of them and ordered another drink. But honestly? My mind was already somewhere else entirely.

Lena.

What’s she doing right now? Is she waiting for me to come back? The thought hit me unexpectedly, a small warmth blooming right in my chest.

Damn her.

Maybe I should’ve gone back earlier, checked if she did those warm little things for me again. I always put on that cold, untouchable act, but deep down... yeah, I have to admit those tiny gestures made me feel—well—taken care of.

I was just debating whether to head home and see Lena tonight when the bar door suddenly swung open. My head snapped toward it on instinct, and the moment I saw who walked in, my whole body froze.

Lena walked in behind Samuel. She was the pretty she-wolf Samuel had mentioned?!

My blood went straight to a boil.

Samuel spotted us and immediately started waving excitedly. "Look, Dominic. This is Lena. I—!"

Then Daniel spoke up. Samuel’s jaw dropped so wide he could’ve swallowed a whole egg. And look at Lena—no guilt at all. Her expression was practically furious. She’d told people she was single. How dare she look at me like I was the one in the wrong!

My fists clenched so hard my knuckles went pale, that beast inside me slamming against its cage. All I wanted was to storm over there and tear apart the man who dared get that close to my mate.

Don’t tell me... I was away for just half a month and Lena couldn’t wait to jump into someone else’s arms?
