Chapter 4: Chapter 4

Dominic’s POV

I stared at the woman beneath me. The moment I leaned in, her pupils went unfocused, then rolled straight back as her head lolled to the side. Another one out cold.

The room reeked of her fear, sharp and sour, mixing with the wild, violent scent clinging to me like a curse I could never scrub off.

I wasn’t surprised. Honestly, I was numb. Women like her? I’d seen way too many.

I pushed back, hit the little bell beside the desk. Not even ten seconds later, two silent pack guards slipped in. No questions, no eye contact. They grabbed the heavy blanket already waiting there, wrapped up the naked, limp body with quick, practiced motions, and carried her out—one at the head, one at the feet. Efficient. Wordless. Routine.

When the door shut again, the room fell back into dead quiet. Just the smell left behind. And me.

No woman had ever stayed conscious after seeing what I looked like when desire hit—blood-red eyes, fangs pushing long and sharp, and that killing intent thick enough to choke on.

To them, I was a monster. And the worst part? They weren’t wrong.

The curse ran in my veins—the legacy of an ancient Wolf King.

Every heir had to find, before thirty, a woman who didn’t fear him and willingly carried his child... or stumble upon his true mate. Fail both, and he’d revert into a mindless beast built only to slaughter.

That deadline hung over me like a blade. I was twenty-nine. I’d achieved neither option. And the clock wasn’t stopping.

The closer it got, the harder my wolf fought the leash. The full moon was the worst—power boiling, ripping at my skin from the inside. I’d lock myself underground, wrists and ankles chained with silver. And still, the shift tore through me. Bones snapped and rebuilt, fangs split gums, and the world bled into crimson. In that state, all I wanted was to tear, to devour, to destroy. Anything living near me would just be volunteering to die.

So I never bothered correcting the rumors.

"That alpha who makes women take anything with their bodies—total freak."

"A mate-less psycho. No she-wolf gets off his bed alive."

"Stay away unless you want to be screwed to death."

Call me whatever. As long as they stayed scared—scared enough to keep their distance—I wouldn’t have to relive that feeling of everything collapsing right in front of me.

I had once believed love could break the curse.

Eliza had been that hope.

Three years together—she said she loved me, and I believed her. Believed her love was sincere enough, and strong enough to last. So one night, here in this same study, with the fire crackling warm and soft against her profile, I told her everything.

The curse.

The full-moon monster.

The truth that only a woman who didn’t fear me and was willing to bear my child could save me.

And that I wanted her. Needed her.

She went quiet. So quiet the fire burned down to ash.

When she finally looked up at me, I knew instantly it was over. All the warmth in her eyes—gone. Love, gone.

What was left was simple.

Raw, unfiltered disgust.

"So," she finally spoke, her voice soft but sharp enough to cut, "you’re basically a ticking bomb? Something that could turn into a monster any minute?"

I tried to reach for her hand. The moment my fingers twitched, she yanked hers away and hid it behind her like I was covered in some deadly plague.

"Eliza, it’s a curse. I didn’t choose this. But I need you. Do you really love me?"

"I love you," she said, stepping back, fear flooding her eyes, "but I love staying alive more. I can’t wreck my whole life because of your curse. Let me have a baby with someone who might turn into a beast? Dominic, that’s insane!"

"He’s not a beast! He’d be our child!" My voice cracked with something dangerously close to begging.

"I thought you were a strong Alpha," she kept retreating, words like tiny knives, "I thought you were the heir of the Voss family. But guess what? You’re just a defective freak. A cursed mess who needs a woman to save him or he’ll turn into some wild animal."

She grabbed her jacket and bolted for the door.

"Eliza, don’t do this!" I sounded hoarse, broken—nothing like myself.

"Stay away from me!" She spun around, pointing at me with a shaking finger like I was trash on the sidewalk. "Don’t touch me. Don’t come near me. And if you dare mention me, or us, to anyone, I swear I’ll tell the whole world what you really are."

She left. The door slammed so hard the echo rattled through the empty room, smashing whatever was left of me along with it.

And I’ll never forget the way she looked at me right before she walked out—fear, disgust, like she’d finally realized I wasn’t human.

From that moment, the truth burned itself into my bones: if even the woman who once loved me couldn’t handle what I am, who else possibly could?

After that, I didn’t let anyone get close to the secret. Rumors? Let them spread. The scarier, the better.

My parents, though—they never quit. They kept paying for woman after woman, parading them in front of me. I didn’t want to disappoint them, so I played along.

I’d already accepted that someday the beast would swallow me whole. At least then I wouldn’t have to keep being treated like a monster pretending to be a man.

Just a moment ago, another woman had fainted under me.

I put on my shirt, tightened my tie, and shrugged into my perfectly tailored suit jacket. To anyone looking, I was the picture of power and control—an Alpha with zero flaws. Only I knew that under the expensive shell lived a restless creature, pacing, snarling, clawing for escape. The chains were rusting fast. Time was almost gone.

I walked behind the massive desk and lowered myself into the high-backed leather chair. The room was so still I could hear my own steady, cold breathing and the dull throb of blood moving behind my temples.

The next girl who walked through that door—I’d make sure she understood instantly what a terrible choice she’d made. I’d crush whatever fantasy she brought with her, end this whole farce before she could flash that familiar look of horror.

The heavy wooden door slowly pushed open from the outside.

A girl stepped inside. She was thin, drowning in a washed-out gray T-shirt, fingers locked so tightly around the handle of a tiny suitcase it looked like she might snap it off. Her face was pale, lips pressed into a stubborn line, fragile enough that a light breeze could blow her over.

But.

Her spine was straight. Shoulders steady. And when her eyes swept across the room and finally stopped on me, she didn’t freak out, didn’t dodge, didn’t roll her eyes back and collapse like the women before her.

She just stood there, quietly staring at me. Those eyes were crammed with complicated emotions: taut wariness, deeply buried exhaustion, a calmness that looked like acceptance — but none of that instinctive, pure terror I’d grown so sick of.

And then — that one second.

A violent, indescribable jolt shot through my spine like a high-voltage current, detonating in every single nerve ending.

The wolf inside me, the one who had been pacing restlessly, growling day and night under the torment of the countdown and the curse, finally woke up. It wasn’t a mere awakening; it was an explosive realization followed by a near-manic ecstasy."

"She’s the one! She’s the one we’ve been hunting for! Dominic, how can you not smell it?!"

My wolf nearly shattered my consciousness with its roar. "She has a special scent!"

"Shut up," I growled inwardly, fighting to quell the tremors that threatened to consume me. "Look carefully. Is she any different from the ones who cried in fear? Just another Omega waiting to faint."

"Not the same! Completely different!"

The wolf was so excited it felt like it was trying to claw its way out of my bones. "Those women reek of sour fear — they make me want to vomit! But her — she smells like moonlight and the forest! And something else I can’t describe... something special! It’s faint, but it’s there!"

"Special?" I scoffed. "That’s just your imagination. She’s a normal omega, her wolf hasn’t even awakened. And even if she were different, so what? Eliza at least truly loved me once — and what happened? Even true love couldn’t survive. What makes you think this ‘special’ you’re raving about means anything?"

"You idiot!"

The wolf roared in fury. "Her wolf is asleep, of course the scent is faint! But I can feel it — beneath that barrier, there’s something that fits us perfectly! Give her a chance!"

"Opportunity?" My voice grew colder. "I gave Eliza a chance, and she nearly crushed me to pieces. This girl who hasn’t even awakened her wolf — you think she can do better than Eliza?"

No. I would never let hope come anywhere near me. The pain Eliza taught me was enough.

I walked toward the girl, letting the beast rise. A low growl vibrated up from my chest as violent power spread from my heart, black markings crawling across my skin like living things. My eyes shifted to blood-red, glowing cold and predatory in the dim room. Fangs slid past my lips, sharp enough to rip the air.

Muscles swelled and twisted, bones cracking with sickening pops. My fingers stretched and distorted, nails lengthening into blades. Killing intent rolled off me like thick fog — I could almost swallow the entire room.

My gaze locked on the only life still standing before me — the little omega wearing a mask of calm.

"Take off your clothes."
