Silicon Valley may not be as large as other tech industry parks, but its annual output surpasses many other countries in the world.
Ye Qiu took Miranda and Xia Jing for a tour around Silicon Valley and found it to be very quiet; on the surface, it didn’t look much different from other cities.
However, Ye Qiu knew that software, hardware, chips for televisions, computers, phones, and the internet were mostly developed here.
By lunchtime, instead of going back to eat in Chinatown, they found a western restaurant nearby to dine in.
The programmers here in Silicon Valley belong to the high-income group, with an average income that is probably the highest in America, so there are many high-end places for consumption, including western restaurants.
Ye Qiu and the two women entered a western restaurant.
The waitress took the three of them to a seat, with Xia Jing sitting on one side and Miranda sitting next to Ye Qiu, as the waitress handed out the menu.
Ye Qiu saw that it was a standard western menu, including appetizers, soup, salad, seafood, meat, and such.
Everything was made in the western style, and the prices weren’t cheap, with each dish costing around forty to fifty US dollars.
Based on the US minimum income of two or three thousand dollars, a meal like this would cost at least several hundred dollars, really not cheap.
But for the high-income group in Silicon Valley, it’s nothing.
When Ye Qiu let Xia Jing and Miranda look at the menu, he sat there listening to the elegant music and looking at the beautiful scenery outside the window.
He heard two middle-aged men in suits and ties next to him with severe Mediterranean hairlines chatting.
"The company went bankrupt again."
One man said helplessly.
"Didn’t your company’s developed robots perform well? How did it go bankrupt?"
"The funding needed for robotics development is increasing, and we can’t find any venture capital."
Initially, these tech companies heavily relied on venture capital.
Companies like Google developed and expanded through venture capital support.
But in the beginning, many small companies collapsed during the development stage.
Because the development stage required too much expense.
Without results for a long time, it’s hard to attract investors.
There are indeed many such small companies in Silicon Valley.
However, if the development is successful, they get acquired by big companies or receive more investment, and the owners quickly become wealthy.
It’s even faster than making money on Wall Street in New York through stock trading.
Therefore, the number of billionaires produced here in Silicon Valley each year is very high.
If you’re one of the lucky ones, you might become rich overnight.
Those two middle-aged men continued chatting.
It was clear that millions of dollars had been invested in advanced robotics, but the company still went bankrupt due to inability to cover salaries, let alone anything else.
Every hope for entrepreneurship and every bankruptcy cycle from excitement and climax to disappointment, until ultimately succeeding.
However, if entrepreneurship were really that easy, there wouldn’t be so many poor people in this world.
And Silicon Valley has too many similar competitors.
"Qiu, what are you looking at?" Miranda asked.
"Nothing." Ye Qiu replied.
For those two Caucasians, millions of dollars might be a huge amount, even life-saving money, but to Ye Qiu, it’s nothing.
However, he did nothing for now.
As the waitress took away the menu after the two ladies placed their orders and delivered a bottle of red wine ordered by Xia Jing.
After opening the wine, Xia Jing and Miranda wanted to drink but feared intoxication.
"Qiu, what if we get drunk?"
"With me here, what are you afraid of?"
Ye Qiu encouraged Miranda to drink.
Soon, the dishes they ordered started arriving one after another.
In terms of elegance when eating western food, no one could compare to Ye Qiu, not even Miranda.
And Xia Jing was only barely learning how to use a knife and fork.
This lavish western meal lasted from a little past one in the afternoon until after two.
All three were quite full.
Leaving the restaurant, Ye Qiu and the two ladies continued exploring around Silicon Valley.
Except for companies that seemed very secretive to prevent technology patents from being leaked, most were accessible.
After all, it was also considered a tourist attraction.
By after five in the afternoon.
Ye Qiu surprisingly saw one of the Caucasians they ate with at the restaurant earlier.
This Caucasian was surrounded by many people, engaged in some unknown discussion.
"Robbie, if you don’t pay off your debts soon, I’ll have to hire a lawyer."
"Sir, please give me some time. I will repay the debt once I find a new investor."
"Haha, the more you procrastinate, who would invest in a broken company like yours."
"Trust me, once the development succeeds and we’re listed, I’ll become a billionaire. Paying back your millions won’t be a problem."
...
Clearly, this Robbie borrowed from a high-interest loan company for entrepreneurship and now can’t repay it.
They were here threatening Robbie Mr.
Ye Qiu walked up and said directly: "What’s going on?"
"Yellow monkey." The man was surprised to see a young man of Chinese descent standing up, murmuring something.
Ye Qiu heard it clearly.
"Get lost now, if you think I’m afraid of your Mafia Organization, you’re wrong."
Seeing the skull tattoo revealed, Ye Qiu knew this man was a member of the Mafia Organization, though he wasn’t sure which family.
The man was surprised that Ye Qiu recognized him and wasn’t afraid.
He had no choice but to leave with a few other black men.
"Thank you for saving me, sir." Robbie said.
"You’re too bold, to borrow money from the Underworld, to start a business?"
"I had no other choice; originally, there was a venture capital firm willing to invest in my company, but then they changed plans." Robbie sat dejectedly on the ground, seemingly at a loss.
In reality, he’s only in his thirties, a top student from MIT, yet now looks in his forties.
He had exhausted all the networks and connections he could use.
He really had no other way.
Borrowing from the Mafia Organization was essentially high-interest lending; he’s not afraid of lawyers giving him trouble, but rather that these people might just shoot him one day.
"How much do you owe?"
"It was initially three million; now, one week late, it’s six million."
Six million dollars is about over forty million Huaxia Yuan, which is not insignificant. At least within the country, this money would allow you to enjoy life for a long time.
