Civilization Chronicles: Rise of the Divine Creator
Chapter 465: Rising Phoenix GuildThe Rising Phoenix Guild; it was a suggestion from Lucas who said he took inspiration from a mythological creature from the other universe, a bird of pure flame that even if killed would rise again from the ashes. A true immortal creature.
To his surprise, when he suggested this name and explained its origins, his Master actually told him she had read similar stories about such a creature when she visited the Rising Sun Empire many years ago.
In fact, dragons, krakens, thunderbirds, hydras, giants, goblins, vampires, angles, demons, and nearly all of the supposedly imaginary creatures from the other universe Lucas could recall also appeared in some form or another among the legends and epic stories of this world.
What this meant, or what it implied, Lucas didn’t know.
Yuki, for example, was a fox with three tails, and when her mother’s Soul Manifestation appeared that day, she clearly had five. Did that mean the legendary nine-tailed fox wasn’t just some made up story, but a real living creature in this universe?
However, if that was the case, why had legends about it appeared in a completely different universe?
Lucas was intrigued, as he usually was by such mysteries, but since all those other mythological beings were still confined to the realm of ’stories’ on Servist, he decided it wasn’t important to think about it for now.
He was also a little bit thankful as the beasts of this universe were already troublesome enough; at least, they were much more formidable and dangerous than the ones in the other universe. If legendary creatures like enormous fire-breathing dragons also existed...
In any case, Eris had instantly taken a liking to the name, as had everyone else, so it was decided then and there that the new guild, the new school, and perhaps any new organization in the future that spun-off from this ’little’ endeavour Eris had embarked on was going to use it.
The Rising Pheonix Guild, it was to be a starting point, a place where the poor and disadvantaged children of Misty City would be given a chance to be rise up and be reborn, just like the immortal firebird itself.
The ride to the guild’s compound was relatively quick as it was located essentially at the intersection of the city’s southern market district, and the southern residential district.
This location was chosen for several reasons, but mostly because it was the largest property Eris could find that was both easily accessible and centrally situated.
It may not have been ’prime’ real-estate, but it certainly wasn’t cheap; however, with all the donations pouring in, and with several high-up members of the Balfour Family considering it the girl’s birthday present, cost ultimately wasn’t an issue.
In keeping with Eris’ free-spirited and casual nature, the opening ceremony of the Rising Phoenix Guild was kept short and simple.
Unveil the building, give a short speech explaining the guild’s purpose, introduce its leaders, then open for business.
That was it, everything done and over within half-an-hour.
Some who were present felt that Eris should have taken a bit more time to bathe in her achievement, but since the girl in question had absolutely no interest in self-aggrandizement, she rejected such ideas outright.
Most gathered today simply shrugged at the simplicity of it all, figuring that was just how Eris was.
Everything went off without a hitch, and when she declared the guild open for business, Eris couldn’t have smiled any bigger, and she really tried hard to.
Her only regret was that her Master couldn’t attending this opening ceremony.
A rather disturbing incident had recently occurred to the north of Misty City, one that had become serious enough that Celestina felt the need to inspect the situation personally.
When Eris learned about this yesterday, she was naturally a bit sad, but she also understood how important her Master’s work was, so she had seen her off with a smile while wishing her good luck.
Pauline had also returned to Martin, the Balfour Territory’s capital, a few days ago as there was too much work waiting for her there. She had already stayed in Misty City for far longer than she originally planned and simply couldn’t delay her departure any further.
As such, the one officially representing the Balfour Family at the guild’s opening was Elliot, which made sense seeing how it was the guild/school founded by his granddaughter.
The doting old man had even spent the entire night before the opening ceremony checking and re-checking everything, just to make sure it was perfect for his little granddaughter’s big day.
That, naturally, had gotten him more than a few eye-rolls from his friends and family.
On paper, Eris was listed as the Guild Master of the Rising Phoenix Guild, a point no one was willing to compromise on, but given her young age and lack of experience, her grandmother, Teagan, would temporarily serve as head of the organization.
Elliot had wanted to take up that role, but as the Chief Law Enforcement Elder, his schedule was generally quite busy and quite unpredictable, not the best combination for the leader of a fledgling guild.
His wife, on the other hand, was much freer as she didn’t really have an official position at the moment.
Most days, Teagan volunteered as an instructor or administrator, helping out at the Raging River Legion’s headquarters, but during normal times, there really wasn’t much for her to do.
Serving as the new head of her granddaughter’s guild actually wasn’t too different from what Teagan was already doing, so she made the transition fairly easily.
Frey would be acting as the guild’s guardian and as its head combat instructor when it came to teaching the youths how to properly deal with beasts. This was also the reason she, her husband, and so many Snow Spirit Foxes had come along today.
Many adventurers and former clerks from the South-West Province’s refugees were hired as staff, something they appreciated greatly, and a number of masters from both the Balfour Family and the Raging River Legion had volunteered to come by and give lectures or lessons to the guild’s members on a fairly regular basis.
With such a luxurious lineup either working or teaching at Eris’ guild, and with the prestige and reputation of the Balfour Family backing it up, it was no surprise that the moment it opened, people began flooding in to join or offer commissions.
The advertising campaign Christina had put together and promoted through her Princess Bakeries, also helped immensely.
