Chapter 143: IMPORTANT ASSIGNMENT FOR JEREMY

Seara woke up close to lunchtime and found Zade was there beside her, reading some articles on his laptop.

The moment she opened her eyes, Zade put away his laptop and gave Seara his full attention. "How are you feeling?" He asked, caressing her hair lightly.

"Better," she replied sleepily. She leaned into his touch, but it only made her sleepier; thus, she pushed herself into a sitting position. "I want to see Reaper."

Reaper was alive but heavily injured, so a vet was called to check on the wild wolf, but he was fine, and they kept him here in one of the guest rooms in the main building.

But it wasn’t just Reaper; several wild wolves had died, and at least four others required extra care after helping Chloe in her battle against Lilith. Among those in need were Ghost and Misty.

Apparently, when Seara managed to run away, more wild wolves came to help Chloe in the fight; that was why she could hold Lilith that long.

"Sure, let’s see him after you eat first."

Zade mind-linked someone, and fifteen minutes later, three omegas entered the room with trays of food, while Zade was doing Seara’s hair. They glanced with curiosity but didn’t linger longer than necessary after they put the food on the table.

Today, Zade did a half-braid, letting the other half cascade down her back. He liked this style the most because it allowed him to play with her hair but, at the same time, exposed her neck.

They ate and kept the conversation lighthearted; they didn’t talk about what happened yesterday, and after they were done, Zade took Seara to the guest room, where they kept the injured wolf.

"Is he alright?" Seara asked the vet, who reassured her that Reaper would be fine in a few days.

Meanwhile, Zade was outside the door, talking to Jeremy as he gave him an assignment. Leia had been breathing down his neck because she was worried for Jeremy.

He had been very impulsive and reckless in getting involved in the matter with the devil, which made Leia worry that he might put himself in danger he didn’t fully understand.

Therefore, she had been asking Zade to do something about it.

"I have an important assignment for you," Zade said, leaning against the wall and staring at the eager young shifter before him.

Jeremy had just cut his dark brown hair in a buzz cut, which made him look even younger.

"Yes, what is it?" His brown eyes lit up with excitement because he was given a direct order, a mission from the king himself. Of course, he would do anything. He would go through fire and ocean if he had to.

However, the order Zade gave him was so far away from what he thought.

"I want you to personally protect my mate," Zade said. He watched the confusion cloud Jeremy’s expression.

"Protect... Seara?" Jeremy repeated the statement, just in case he misheard that. He didn’t know how to feel about it. It sounded important, but it was also not significant enough, since Seara didn’t even go out of the residence area. "Why? There are a lot of warriors in the residence; she will be fine. It’s not like she spends her days outside."

In a sense, Jeremy was right. Seara didn’t like going to a new place that she was not familiar with. She was not like Chloe, who would visit a few shopping centers in a day. Most of the time, she would hole up in the bungalow.

"Yes, but she was almost killed within the residence," Zade pointed out the obvious. "Now the devil is out there; my mate is in danger, since they will target her, seeing her as my weakness. I can’t trust anyone but you, especially after the incident with Maisie."

With the way Zade put it, he made it sound very important, and Jeremy was the only one who could do it, since Zephyr and Ace would be too busy to take care of other things. Moreover, Jeremy was close in age to Seara.

And protecting the king’s mate was an honorable and important assignment. Thinking of this point, Jeremy’s eyes lit up again with new enthusiasm.

"I can’t always be with her, and I need someone that I can trust to be with my mate to make sure she is safe."

"Don’t worry, I will keep my eyes on her. I will not let her out of my sight."

"Good." Zade nodded.

Jeremy was too young to understand what kind of trick the Lycan king was doing. Even though it was true that protecting Seara was important, at the same time, those warriors who protected Seara would protect him too.

Jeremy would be as protected as Seara.

"I trust you." Zade patted Jeremy’s shoulder, and he looked so proud of himself.

"You can trust me, Zade. I will make sure nothing happens to her."

After that, Zade was informed that Asher and Altair had arrived, and they were waiting for him in the royal gamma’s house.

Zade then entered the room and informed Seara that he had to step out a bit. "I will be back before dinner. Stay close to Jeremy."

"Why?" Seara was confused; she tilted her head and saw Jeremy standing in the corridor through the open door.

"He will ensure your safety," Zade said. He kissed her forehead and reminded her to stick with Jeremy.

And then he left for Zephyr’s house, where Altair and Asher’s gammas ransacked his kitchen while their alphas were waiting in the living room for Zade.

"Can you both stop? You disorganized my things!" Zephyr exclaimed in frustration at the two other gammas.

"Oh, please, old man, this is just peanut butter; why are you so stingy? What? The Shadow Blood Kingdom is suddenly going bankrupt or something?" Jazz spread the butter on the bread that he found. "I am hungry. I have not been sleeping for the last twenty-five hours."
