"You have made the right decision, Zade," Jane said. She wanted to pat him on the shoulder, but she didn’t dare to do it. The air around him still terrified her because of how intense his murderous intention was. "It’s not like you can’t be with her. You can still come and see her," Jane reassured Zade.

Currently, Zade’s eyes had turned the shade of dark blue. His rage was under control, but it didn’t mean he was stable enough.

"She can come home when she is stable enough. We need to get the right medication for her."

"I will be the one who tells her. You can leave, Jane."

Jane didn’t say anything else and then left the room. It was already good enough for Zade to agree to put Seara in the facility. He had seen it himself, how his mate could be harmful, not only toward him or other people, but also to herself.

The room was not very large because Zade noticed how Seara was still getting anxious in open or spacious areas. But she had everything she needed here.

Once Jane left, Zade lowered his head and intertwined his fingers. He rested his forehead on his hands. The beast inside of him was still enraged; it prowled in the back of his head, trying to find a way to unleash hell on that pack.

He couldn’t do that unless he wanted to lose his time with Seara.

However, the thought of another man had touched her... the thought of what they had done to her...

Zade had to remind himself that Seara was inside the room. He had to control his rage and didn’t let his beast run rampant. Moreover, he was in a human area. He couldn’t lose it here.

"What should I do, Seara?" Zade opened his eyes and stared at her sleeping face. He wanted her to forget everything. He wanted her to stop living in pain.

What they had done to her had left a very deep scar, and even though Zade had killed those people who had harmed his mate, it wouldn’t improve her condition.

He could kill them or torture them, yet Seara would still be in this state.

His mate...

Zade wondered what she looked like before all of the things that had happened to her. Was she always a cheerful person? What kind of things did she like to do?

Zade fished out his phone and called for Zephyr. "I want you to find out where they adopted her." He listened to Zephyr’s reply and then cut off the phone call.

There was something suspicious. It was not usual for a shifter to adopt someone else’s child, unless their whole family had died, just like Jeremy.

Jeremy was adopted because his whole family died during a fire accident, which turned him into an orphan; he didn’t have immediate family. And then Leia, Ace’s mother, adopted him for a personal reason.

Jeremy knew that he was not related to them by blood, but he had never felt any different from Ace, since Leia and Caspian treated him as their own.

Therefore, if the former gamma of the Blackthorne Pack had taken her in, it meant they wanted her, but why did they treat her terribly? There should be no one forcing them to adopt the child that they didn’t want, especially when they were high-ranking in their pack. There were only a few people who could coerce them.

Three years.

They had locked Seara away for three years; it meant she had been inside that cell since she was eighteen and then spent the whole three years alone, talking to herself...

***

Neriah was ready to leave for the capital city. She got a lot of money to travel so far, but when everything was ready and it was time to leave, she faltered.

What she was going to do was very dangerous. After all, it was the Lycan king that they were talking about. She could die if he learned her true intention.

In addition to that, she had to flee from this pack and her home, which was the only place she had ever known. She was... scared.

She agreed to what the former alpha promised her because she was deep in grief; she was full of rage and anger. She didn’t think clearly or even consider the consequences.

But now, when Neriah thought about it again... the mate bond between her and Arlan was not that deep, since they had only figured that out for two weeks.

Yet...

Neriah touched her neck; she could feel Arlan’s mark on her tender skin. He had marked her, and now he died. What should she do?

"Are you hesitating now?"

Neriah was surprised when she heard the other people inside the room. She spun around and saw the weird man in the former alpha’s house was already here.

He was leaning against the wall casually. If it were not for his red eyes, Neriah could say that he had a gorgeous face, but his uncommon red eyes made her shudder; she felt danger from him.

"No... But I..." Neriah shook her head; she bit her lips because she couldn’t finish her words. "I don’t know if I really want to do this."

"Shifters who have been living among humans and hide their existence surely have picked up some of their traits..." He said with a chuckle, but you could hear a deep resentment in his voice. "Humans are really fickle creatures."

"I am a shifter..." Neriah lifted her head; she was trying to argue with him, but her fear stopped her.

"A shifter used to be decisive; they didn’t hesitate." He then approached Neriah, his red eyes fixed on her. "Don’t you want to avenge the death of your mate?"

"I..." The words stuck in her throat, but the more she stared into this man’s eyes, the more she felt like she had fallen from a high place, diving down to the concrete.
