"Only a few moments," Rebecca answered. "The instant I realized he had regained consciousness, I sent someone to fetch you."
The physician gave a small nod of approval before immediately turning his full attention to Cedric.
As he began examining him, Rebecca stepped back to give him enough room to work, although her heart continued pounding against her chest for reasons she couldn’t explain. She had waited so long for Cedric to open his eyes that now he finally had, she found herself afraid that something might still go wrong.
Meanwhile, after receiving the message that the Lord Commander had awakened, both the king and queen arrived without delay. Their footsteps filled the chamber before Rosalind’s eyes immediately searched for Rebecca.
"Rebecca?" Rosalind called softly.
Rebecca turned toward her with eyes that were still slightly red from crying, yet a smile finally found its way onto her face.
"He’s awake," she whispered, as though saying the words aloud still felt unbelievable.
Rosalind’s own expression softened with relief before she slowly nodded.
"We are truly grateful that Cedric has finally awakened," she said warmly, her gaze shifting towards the man lying on the bed.
"Cedric." This time it was Rowan who called his name.
Cedric slowly turned his head towards the familiar voice but speaking remained far more difficult than he expected. His lips parted slightly, yet only a weak breath escaped him before he gave a faint nod instead.
The physician, however, remained focused on his examination and carefully checked Cedric’s pulse, placing two fingers against his wrist. Satisfied with what he felt, he then leaned forward and shone a small torch into Cedric’s eyes, watching how his pupils reacted to the light. Though his complexion remained pale from blood loss and the long weeks spent unconscious, there was unmistakably more life in him now than before.
"How is he?" Rowan asked, his voice calm despite the concern hidden beneath it.
"I’ll know more once I finish examining him, Your Majesty," the physician replied respectfully before returning his attention to Cedric.
"Can you see clearly?" he asked.
Cedric blinked several times before giving a slight shake of his head, then nodded again as though trying to explain that his vision was improving little by little.
"I see."
The physician held up several fingers. "How many?"
Cedric narrowed his eyes briefly before answering with a weak, hoarse voice, correctly identifying the number.
"Good," the physician said encouragingly. "Now, can you move your arms and your legs?"
Cedric obeyed as best as he could. His fingers twitched first before he slowly managed to lift one hand a few inches from the bed. The movement exhausted him far more than it should have, and when he tried moving his legs, a dull pain spread through his chest, forcing him to stop for a brief moment before trying again. Although every movement was weak and sluggish, the physician looked satisfied because Cedric had responded exactly as he expected.
Once the physician had completed every necessary examination, he finally straightened and turned towards Rowan.
"I have checked everything thoroughly, Your Majesty..."
"Lord Cedric’s condition has improved considerably. His body is responding well, his senses are intact, and there is nothing to suggest any lasting damage" the physician said with a relieved smile.
"He is still weak, which is only to be expected after remaining unconscious for so long but If he continues recovering at this pace and his wound heals properly, I have every reason to believe he will make a full recovery."
Only then did Rebecca realize how tightly she had been holding herself together these past months. She slowly let out a breath she hadn’t even realized she had been keeping, and although tears threatened to return to her eyes once more, this time they weren’t born from fear but from relief.
Rowan, on the other hand, gave a quiet nod, the seriousness on his face remaining, although the concern in his eyes had eased.
The physician continued, "I would strongly advise that no one overwhelms him with too many questions. He needs adequate rest before attempting lengthy conversations or moving around too much... Let him recover his strength gradually."
"Very well, Physician," Rowan answered.
Everyone else present silently agreed because the last thing they wanted was to place any unnecessary strain on Cedric.
They had waited months for him to awaken, and now that he finally had, they were willing to give him all the time he needed to recover properly.
Meanwhile, several chambers away, Julian stirred in his sleep as the unusual movement throughout the palace gradually reached his ears. The hurried footsteps in the corridors, the opening and closing of doors, and the faint voices outside slowly disturbed his rest until his eyes finally fluttered open in confusion, unaware that the news he had been waiting so eagerly to hear had at last become a reality.

Eventually, Julian climbed out of bed and rubbed the sleep from his eyes before making his way towards the door. His hair was slightly messy from sleep, and although he was still drowsy, the unusual commotion outside had completely stolen his curiosity. As soon as he stepped into the corridor, he noticed servants and guards hurrying from one place to another, their footsteps echoing through the palace. Confusion crossed his face because the palace was usually quiet at this hour, and he couldn’t understand why everyone suddenly seemed to be in such a rush.
His gaze wandered through the corridor as he searched for his mother, wondering where she had gone instead of retiring for the night. After thinking about it for a moment, he came to only one conclusion.
She must still be with the Lord Commander.
Perhaps she was taking care of him again before going to bed.
With that thought in mind, Julian immediately headed towards Cedric’s chamber, and by the time he arrived, the door was already standing open. He quietly stepped inside, only to pause in confusion as he found several people gathered around the bed. At first, he didn’t understand why everyone was there, but then his eyes drifted past them and settled on the figure resting on the bed.
Although Cedric’s face was still pale and exhaustion was written all over him, there was no mistaking it.
He was awake!
