Staring at the tree that was literally right in front of him yet he couldn’t get to it, he sighed and gave up. He decided to sit down for a moment, he lowered himself into a lotus position on the hard ground, he let his spatial senses spread as though he was trying to pick up on the unstable spatial fluctuations and disturbances, then compare them to normal, stabilized space.
He sat in that position without moving for over ten minutes as his spatial senses simply gathered data and made comparisons. It was like comparing two different mathematical equations, you knew one was correct, and you knew one was wrong, and all you had to do was follow the structure of the right one to see through the wrong equation.
Just by doing this, Asher felt as though his control over space was increasing, but it was just a feeling, whether it was an illusion-like feeling or whether he was actually improving, he didn’t know, but he didn’t move.
As half an hour finally passed, he opened his eyes, his purple eyes landing on the tree in front of him. About fifteen minutes ago, he had found the right framework for the answer he wanted, but he wanted to perfect it, no, he wanted to forcefully stabilize both the space he was currently in and the one he was stepping into.
He rose to his feet with a smile on his face, then took a step, and the moment he did, he felt space actively shrink. Normally, this was impossible, as when people walked, they didn’t feel space shrinking, they could only ’see’ that they were getting closer to their destination or target. But the Valley of Distortion granted him that feeling, or maybe the feeling of increased spatial control granted him that perception.
But, during teleportation, one could feel space shrinking, after all, space did indeed shrink during that moment to accommodate the teleportation.
Space warped, trying to throw him into another distance, he hadn’t felt this before when he first entered here, but now, he sensed it. It was subtle, but it was there. But before it could throw him out, he forcefully stabilized it, but the moment he did, he appeared beside the tree. He had taken a step, he had walked closer to the tree, but it was just that his original position had changed, but it didn’t matter.
He took another step, space warped again, but this time, he wasn’t repositioned again, after being repositioned the first time, he had adapted instantly on the fly. With that, he walked forward and touched the tree without any more issues.
’My Spatial Sense skill has increased,’ Asher thought to himself as he could sense everything within a one-kilometer radius.
Due to his recent Space Control, the active Spatial Sense ability had become passive. Even if someone was invisible, he didn’t need to hear the wind tearing or rely on shifts in Astra energy motes. Now, as long as someone existed in space, he would know, unless they possessed some sort of ability that removed them from that layer of space.
’Layers of space,’ Asher thought to himself as he turned away from the tree.
When he had first entered this place, he felt as though he had entered another Dimension, but he knew he hadn’t. With his recent understanding, he felt as though space possessed layers. Where he stood right now, his current existence was on the topmost layer, where whatever was existed and remained.
And in between space was the Void. But, what if someone stepped into the next layer of space? That meant nothing could sense them anymore, this was where his Spatial Sense would fail.
It was like laying two cloths on top of each other, but one couldn’t see the cloth beneath no matter how much they looked, unless they peeled or removed the first cloth.
Asher couldn’t help but smile... he seemed to instinctively understand that him simply learning how to walk here had opened a door for him. As though understanding how to navigate the Valley of Distortion granted one the right to train here, and if they tried to train without learning to walk or navigate, they would end up with nothing.
’If I can cross into another layer of space, I can enter anywhere in the world,’ he thought to himself, ’I can bypass restrictions, be in places, but people won’t actually even know I’m there,’ he thought to himself.
One could think about entering another layer of space like spatial phasing, but like an incomplete, amateur method someone who wasn’t talented had come up with.
Asher took in a deep breath, but the moment he did, he shook his head as no air came rushing into his lungs. He had literally forgotten he couldn’t breathe here, as he had merely inhaled out of habit when he wanted to attempt something.
But regardless, with a Physique to match a Voidstar Life Ranker, he could hold his breath for an entire day, so he didn’t really care much.
’I should first head to the door,’ he thought to himself.
With that thought, he walked towards the door, although he was a bit far away due to the random displacements from earlier. As he arrived, he opened the door and stepped out. The moment he stepped out, he took in a deep breath and took a moment to breathe. Just because he could hold his breath didn’t mean he enjoyed it.
A dagger appeared in his hand, and he dropped it to the ground, this was his safety net. With that done, he turned around and entered the Valley of Distortion. The moment he entered, the first thing he did was test his teleportation Mark, the moment he activated it, he vanished from the Valley of Distortion and appeared outside.
Normally, he wouldn’t bother to test it since the ability couldn’t be restricted, but with this training facility, one could never be too sure, so he had to test it out and be certain it worked.
Entering back into the Valley of Distortion, Asher decided to stop walking and just teleport. With a thought, his body vanished from where he stood, as he appeared upon a shattered valley.
But the moment he appeared, pain bloomed across his entire body as his body toppled forward and he fell face-first, blood splattering onto the ground as some remained suspended in space.
Asher ignored the pain as he looked down, it was nothing compared to the pain he felt in the Combat Refinement and Attunement Room. As his eyes fell on his body and the reason why he had fallen forward, fear couldn’t help but clench his heart.
Half of his body was gone, from the waist down had been erased, and he was bleeding out. Virelass appeared instantly as he tapped into the End-class Monster blood she possessed, and within two seconds, he was whole again, but naked.
He stood up and put on a pair of pants as he cursed at himself for being so stupid.
’I can’t believe I was so stupid,’ he thought to himself, ’my new understanding of space made me forget where I freaking am, I still haven’t figured out the mysteries of this place, I can’t try such crazy things next time,’ he concluded, his expression still carrying a trace of lingering fear.
