Chapter 150: Chapter 128: Slay
Wielding the Moon-Cutting Axe, Xie Yuan felt the transformative power of his Inner Power breakthrough as he unleashed a frenzied flurry of hacks and slashes at his foe.
Peng Jie’s face darkened as he braced himself against each blow from Xie Yuan’s great axe. Though the blade couldn’t pierce the yellow glow protecting his palm, the sheer force of the impacts sent tremors through his entire body.
Xie Yuan also felt the recoil, but the nourishing arts circulating within him at full speed dissipated the external force. His breathing remained deep and steady, leaving him largely unaffected.
As one’s strength waned and the other’s held steady, the disparity in their conditions grew ever wider.
Finally, after another blow from Xie Yuan’s axe sent him staggering back three steps, Peng Jie paused and snarled through gritted teeth:
"You... you’re not poisoned?"
"Heh," Xie Yuan chuckled. "Are these petty schemes all the Vajra Sect has? I knew about them all along."
Xie Yuan smirked and slammed the head of his axe into the stage, shattering the floorboards to reveal a black unguent smoldering beneath.
Seeing this, Peng Jie finally cast aside all pretense and bellowed toward the entrance:
"Get up here, all of you! Take him down first!"
He had completely forgotten his boasts from before the battle.
The conscious members of the Escort Agency had been ecstatic.
They had never imagined Xie Yuan could actually trade blows with Peng Jie. It was more than just trading blows—he was utterly dominating him!
Peng Jie, who had single-handedly and effortlessly defeated two of the Escort Agency’s Fourth Training masters, seemed like a complete amateur before Xie Yuan!
But just as they were about to celebrate, Peng Jie threw all shame to the wind and called upon the remaining Third Training practitioners from the Vajra Sect. He was turning this into a three-on-one fight!
"Shameless! Despicable!"
’It’s over. Our opponent is completely shameless. It’s three against one. No matter how strong Xie Yuan is, how can he possibly fight all of them at once?’
Curses rose from the crowd, but in their deeply poisoned and weakened state, their voices were as faint as buzzing flies, completely inaudible on the stage.
Even if he had heard, Peng Jie would have been unmoved. In his eyes, killing Xie Yuan and completely eliminating this future threat was more important than slaughtering everyone else below the stage.
He was starting to feel a flicker of fear.
Xie Yuan glanced over his shoulder. Two Third Training instructors from the Vajra Sect had leaped onto the stage, forming a triangle with Peng Jie and trapping Xie Yuan in the center.
He looked at Peng Jie and sneered.
"I told you to bring your men, but you wouldn’t listen. Regretting it now, are we?"
Peng Jie was unmoved. He was past caring about taunts and sarcasm.
’As long as everyone from the Longteng Escort Agency dies here today, the winner gets to decide how the story of this duel is told.’
Xie Yuan watched the three men slowly tighten the circle around him, their assault imminent, yet his expression remained calm.
He continued to smile at Peng Jie.
"Do you know why you are going to die?"
What?
Peng Jie’s brow furrowed. But in that instant, he saw Xie Yuan’s axe lift and then flash through the air in a jagged arc, like a bolt of cold lightning.
He instinctively raised his palm to block, a burst of earthen-yellow light flaring to life.
This time, however, he failed to block it.
’How is the axe so fast? How is it so powerful?’
Peng Jie looked down. He saw a fine line of blood on his hand and watched, wide-eyed, as it spread up to his chest. Realization finally dawned.
’He was holding back all along...’
He looked up at Xie Yuan. He saw the two instructors roar as their cudgels struck Xie Yuan’s back in unison, yet the blow failed to even make him bend over. Peng Jie’s vision was already starting to blur.
"It’s because your mind is so full of plots and schemes that you lost the spirit of a Martial Artist long ago. When it truly came time to fight for your life, all you could do was call for help. You thought numbers gave you courage, but it only made you careless."
"Without the heart of a Martial Artist, there is only one path for you: death."
Xie Yuan shook his head as he spoke, watching as a look of dawning comprehension, frustration, indignation, and regret washed over Peng Jie’s face. A spray of blood erupted from the gash on his chest, and he slowly crumpled to the ground.
