Comprehending Myriad Techniques as Woodcutter
Chapter 249 - 196: Killing Spree (3)Chapter 249: Chapter 196: Killing Spree (3)
Xie Yuan shook his head and pointed in a different direction.
"Let’s go that way instead!"
The three of them were taken aback for a moment. Seeing that Xie Yuan had already started walking, they had no choice but to follow.
Pei Yu frowned slightly. ’Is this way a dead end, too?’
He glanced back instinctively and saw a large pool of fresh blood slowly seeping out from the corner, flowing steadily down the street.
Pei Yu was taken aback for a moment but didn’t dwell on it. He just thought to himself, ’Those four must have had some potent Blood Qi.’
The group left by another street, leaving the corner in absolute silence.
FLAP FLAP. A crow, seeing no movement below, landed on the eaves of a roof and looked down on the street.
The ground below was densely littered with corpses, blood flowing like a river, all in deathly silence.
If Lin Cheng had taken just one more step, he would have seen this very sight.
CAW—
The crow cawed a few times, seeming excited.
In a few days, this place would be a grand feast.
The group of four hurried toward the edge of town, glancing back from time to time.
The thunderous sound of clashing weapons came from that direction. Clearly, Huang Zifeng was fighting an enemy at the Qi and Blood Metamorphosis Realm.
"I wonder how Senior Brother Huang is doing?"
Lin Zhen said worriedly.
Xie Yuan shook his head.
"He’s very strong. He’ll be fine."
He had just taken a look. The opponent’s strength was nowhere near Huang Zifeng’s. At most, they could delay him for a bit. If Huang Zifeng wanted to leave, his opponent certainly couldn’t stop him.
Just then, Pei Yu approached, handed him a small, round orb, and whispered:
"You’re weak. Take this to protect yourself."
Xie Yuan was taken aback. Before he could even react, he heard a shout.
"Watch out, more enemies ahead! This place is crawling with bandits..."
Lin Cheng let out a low cry. The others tensed and, sure enough, saw a squad of bandits appear up ahead.
The two sides quickly clashed. This time, having laid the groundwork, Xie Yuan revealed a little more of his strength. With a few swift flashes of his sword, enemies fell, causing the other three to shoot him surprised glances even in the heat of battle.
But just like before, the bandits were overwhelming; there were simply too many of them.
’I wonder why Lu the Third has stationed so many men here?’
Xie Yuan shook his head and played the same old trick. Allowing himself to be surrounded by a group of them, he feigned being overpowered and slowly retreated to the side.
"Junior Brother Zhang! They’ve gotten Junior Brother Zhang again!"
The three grew frantic. Seeing Xie Yuan being forced around a corner by several men, their sword techniques instantly quickened.
But a moment later, they saw Junior Brother Zhang running back from a side alley, sword in hand and all alone. The group of bandits was nowhere to be seen.
"Er, Junior Brother Zhang is back..."
Seeing their movements slow as they stared at him, Xie Yuan gave them a shy, simpleminded smile.
"I was so scared, I just started flailing my sword around. I don’t know how, but I managed to kill them all again."
The three of them were incredulous. ’Does Junior Brother Zhang have one of those constitutions that gets stronger the more he fights?’
With no time to dwell on it, they noticed the bandit reinforcements seemed to have thinned out. The four of them joined forces and quickly finished off the remaining enemies.
After slaughtering those two waves of bandits, few enemies remained to block their path. Even the scattered stragglers watched them with extreme apprehension, not daring to approach.
Pei Yu sneered.
"Bandits are just bandits. A disorganized mob. They have so many men, yet they get scared after losing just two groups."
"You’re right, Senior Brother Pei."
Xie Yuan nodded in agreement.
A few moments later, the four of them successfully broke out of the market town and breathed a collective sigh of relief.
"I wonder about Senior Brother Huang..."
Just as they were worrying, an extremely fast shadow shot out from the town. It was Huang Zifeng.
Seeing that they were all right, Huang Zifeng heaved a huge sigh of relief.
"As long as you’re okay. I was worried you’d been surrounded. Turns out there weren’t as many bandits as I thought."
They all felt that the bandits holed up in this town were all thunder and no lightning. For some reason, their numbers didn’t seem as great as they had first appeared.
Xie Yuan, wearing a simpleminded expression, waited on the side while his seniors exchanged a few words. Then he heard Huang Zifeng say decisively:
"Let’s go! I don’t know what Lu the Third’s bandits are doing here, but we need to leave this place first!"
Having fought several battles in a row, they were all somewhat drained and quickly began running back the way they came.
Their inner energies surged as they activated their Cultivation Techniques. Now that they had escaped the confines of the town, the bandits would naturally never be able to outrun them.
Unless...
After running for a while, they suddenly felt the ground tremble and saw the yellow sand shake. They exchanged wide-eyed glances.
Caught up in the alley fighting within the town, they seemed to have forgotten something.
These were horse bandits!
Looking back, they saw a teeming mass of over a hundred men on the dunes, charging toward them on a motley collection of tall horses, ponies, and even camels, gradually closing the distance.
Xie Yuan frowned slightly, his gaze fixed on the three or four men leading the charge. They all seemed to be at the Qi and Blood Metamorphosis Realm. ’It looks like every bandit in Fengsha Collection has come out to play.’
’Why all the fuss?’
"You killed so many of our men, and you still think you can run!"
The lead bandit roared in anger.
After a moment’s silence, Xie Yuan turned and bolted.
Huang Zifeng and the others gritted their teeth. ’These bandits are surprisingly united,’ they thought. ’We didn’t even feel like we killed that many.’
"Run!"
Huang Zifeng shouted, and the group instantly accelerated.
If it were an alley fight back in the town, Xie Yuan would have no problem relying on his Body Technique to slowly kill them all.
However, out here on the open desert plains with nowhere to hide, even he found this hundred-strong cavalry of Martial Artists, led by several Metamorphosis Realm experts, to be a thorny problem.
If he used the Cloud Dragon Step and Celestial Concealment Skill, he could escape without any issue, but his companions would never be able to get away.
Even Huang Zifeng, a master at the Qi Blood First Transformation Realm, couldn’t necessarily outlast horses in a long-distance race, despite his superior short-term speed. Moreover, he was leading several of his juniors, the sand was slowing them all down, and while the majestic West Pass was visible in the distance, it was at least half a day’s journey away.
Seeing the bandits gradually closing in, Huang Zifeng gritted his teeth, looking as if he was about to make a difficult decision. Xie Yuan sighed.
’So be it,’ he thought. ’Besides, I want to see what Lu the Third is really up to anyway.’
The five of them ran forward in a ragged formation. Xie Yuan gradually fell to the back. Huang Zifeng frowned and was about to tell him to keep up when he suddenly saw him stumble and fall flat on the sand.
The other four were sprinting at full speed and had already covered some distance before they reacted. They turned pale with shock. Just as they were about to turn back to rescue him, they saw Xie Yuan sprawled on the sand, raising a hand and shouting with tragic heroism:
"Go! Senior Brothers, Senior Sister, go on without me! If I reveal my identity, they won’t dare to kill me! Hurry back and get reinforcements!"
No sooner had the words left his mouth than the great troop of bandits was upon him, swallowing him in their midst.
