Chapter 281 - 203: The Snipe and the Clam Grapple (2)Chapter 281: Chapter 203: The Snipe and the Clam Grapple (2)
Perhaps this is why there are no training dummies on the 4th Layer and above.
For Grandmasters and beyond, progress is more about insight. While there might be differences in skill, everyone has already reached an extremely high level.
Xie Yuan thought to himself as he watched from afar, observing the army of dummies charge the experts from the Western Regions.
He had found the Tiger Talisman in the armory, and sure enough, when he held it and activated it, things were different.
With this Tiger Talisman, he was the master of the training dummies on the 3rd Layer, able to command them to attack others.
Xie Yuan figured the talisman was probably intended for the head of the guards and servants, making it easier to move the dummies or fend off intruders. But now, he had assumed that role. On the 3rd Layer, it was like having a legion of Qi and Blood Metamorphosis Realm subordinates. Even if they were just dummies with diminished combat strength, it was a force that even an expert of the Qi Blood Third Transformation Realm couldn’t afford to ignore!
As he watched the dummies in the center slowly swarm toward the stairwell, the stone platform finally became empty. Xie Yuan’s eyes narrowed.
He concealed his presence and aura, moving swiftly from the side toward the center. While keeping an eye on the experts from the Western Regions, he fixed his gaze on the Profound Weapon—a short staff—and drew steadily closer.
’Almost there... I’m about to get it...’
The short staff was right in front of him. Xie Yuan’s eyes lit up. He was about to step forward and grab it when his heart suddenly skipped a beat. He whipped his head around to look at the stairwell.
The phalanx of dummies was still assaulting the experts from the Western Regions. This gave Qin Zhenyang a reprieve. Though he didn’t understand why, he seized the opportunity to distance himself from the fight. He began carefully searching the surrounding rooms, avoiding traps and looking for any trace of his sect members. The treasure, it seemed, held no interest for him at all.
Lu Tianyong had been fighting the dummies side-by-side with Roto. He glanced to the side and saw Roto besieged by a group of Third Transformation dummies. As Roto roared, his Iron Fist techniques thundering, a glint flashed in Lu Tianyong’s eyes.
His figure flickered as he suddenly shot forward, instantly reaching top speed and charging straight for the stone platform in the center!
From Xie Yuan’s perspective, Lu Tianyong might not have seen him, but he was charging straight for him!
Xie Yuan’s expression tensed. The sheer force of a Qi Blood Third Transformation Realm expert’s full charge was overwhelming. He didn’t dare stand in the way and had no choice but to take a quick step to the side, putting distance between himself and the stone platform.
While Roto was distracted, Lu Tianyong launched a surprise charge, closing in on the Profound Weapon on the stone platform.
His eyes burned with eagerness. Just as he was about to touch the short staff, a shadow suddenly fell over him. The light from the ever-burning lamps on the walls seemed to be blocked by something.
A chill ran down Lu Tianyong’s spine, and he instinctively froze. With a loud THUD, Roto’s tall, powerful frame landed right in front of him. If he had continued his charge, he would have been pinned directly beneath him.
The Black Yaksha-like Roto bared his teeth and snarled:
"Lu Tianyong, what are you doing?"
Lu Tianyong’s expression darkened. "Roto," he said coldly,
"I don’t answer to you. Go worry about those men in the back."
He took a probing step to the side, intending to circle around Roto and grab the short staff. But Roto didn’t hesitate for a second, lashing out with a punch!
Startled, Lu Tianyong threw up his palm to block the heavy fist. He instantly felt an immense force slam into him. A tightness seized his chest as he was sent sliding back several steps.
He bellowed:
"Roto, what are you doing? The men from the Central Plains are still out there, and you want to fight me first?"
Roto said coldly:
"You weren’t fighting the Central Plains men seriously to begin with. I said it before we came in: I’ll deal with anyone who disobeys my orders first. You’re no exception."
"Fool! Do you take me for one of those fanatical slaves from your holy kingdom? Why the hell should I listen to you?"
Lu Tianyong’s expression was grim.
"The men you brought with you are about to be overwhelmed. If you don’t step in, you can forget about handling anyone from the Central Plains."
With two Qi Blood Third Transformation experts out of the fight, the remaining men from the Western Regions immediately began to struggle. They were already outnumbered by the training dummies, and many of those were powerful Third Training dummies. Now, as the dummies surged forward like a tide, their defense was on the verge of collapsing.
Fortunately, the Third Training dummies, having lost their targets, seemed to lock onto Lu Tianyong and Roto instead. They turned and pursued them toward the center, allowing the other experts from the Western Regions to breathe a sigh of relief. ’Thank goodness these things are brainless,’ they thought.
Roto’s eyes narrowed. He scoffed,
"They can hold their own. As for me..."
He sneered and reached back toward the short staff.
Roto was tall and had a long reach. Even though he wasn’t standing right at the platform, his outstretched hand nearly touched the Profound Weapon.
He was just about to see what kind of treasure would make Lu Tianyong try so hard to get it when, with a great WHOOSH, a massive blade light slashed viciously toward him.
Roto’s eyes widened. His fist erupted in black flames as he threw a punch directly at the horse-chopping saber, roaring:
"Lu Tianyong, you dare to attack me!"
"What, are you the only one allowed to throw a punch? Since you don’t want to join forces, then nobody’s walking away happy today."
Lu Tianyong said coldly, slashing again without mercy.
Roto roared in fury, igniting his Iron Fists with black flames and hammering heavy blows down on Lu Tianyong.
As fist met blade, Lu Tianyong let out a muffled grunt, having clearly come off worse in the exchange.
Yet he refused to yield an inch. He raised his greatsaber, brandishing it like the wind and creating a storm of blade-shadows as he slashed repeatedly at Roto’s head!
Roto’s expression was thunderous. He too refused to retreat a single step, raising his fists and fearlessly trading blows with Lu Tianyong.
And so, for some inexplicable reason, the two Third Transformation Realm masters from the Western Regions began to fight each other by the stone platform.
The experts from the Western Regions looked at each other in dismay. They were already struggling to fend off the charging dummies. They also had to spare some of their strongest to hold the strategic advantage of the stairwell and prevent the experts of the Great Li from charging up. And on top of all that, they now had to watch their two leaders fight each other. The situation was an overwhelming mess. It felt like their formation would collapse at any second, and it would become every man for himself.
