Chapter 113: Chapter 110: Paternity Test
Chen Xing sent out a mental command.
A few seconds later, Meng Hu leaped over the high wall and into the residential complex.
"Holy shit, a tiger..." A sharp-eyed man spotted the beast’s arrival, stumbling backward in terror and screaming in panic.
"Brother Hao, the wounds on Brother Leopard and the others... could they have been from this tiger?" one man asked. He was far from the beast, but seeing its ferocity, he immediately recalled the bite marks on the corpses.
Brother Hao’s face went pale, his expression instantly twisting with hatred. "Kill it! Kill that thing at all costs!"
A dozen guns opened fire on Meng Hu, spraying it with bullets.
But not only was Meng Hu unharmed, it was rapidly taking down their men.
Thinking of his missing supplies, Brother Hao immediately had a bad feeling.
’This tiger must be controlled by someone!’
Just then, a girl emerged from a brightly lit area.
Her features were stunning, but her cold eyes were like those of an ethereal phantom, untouched by the mortal world.
With a flash of her blade, a man fell. She was even more terrifying than the tiger.
Brother Hao watched his men fall one by one, a chill running down his spine.
He was terrified.
He had never seen a girl like this before—as cold as a Hell Messenger, killing without a shred of hesitation.
As Chen Xing ran, she shot him a cold glance, causing Brother Hao’s legs to buckle.
Brother Hao knew that if this continued, he would be the next to die.
So, before the woman who killed so effortlessly could reach him, he pressed a button and vanished from the complex.
Chen Xing: "..."
’This wasn’t me being careless.’
She had come to wipe them out as quickly as possible, but who would have thought this place had a hidden mechanism?
Reaching the spot where Brother Hao had disappeared, she slammed her fist down hard.
The ground, already hollow, caved in to form a depression.
The floor was made of a thick iron plate.
Chen Xing grabbed the edge of the plate and, with a powerful tug, ripped the dented panel clean off.
A pit over two meters deep appeared below.
She jumped down and saw a corridor ahead, just wide enough for one person.
To prevent any unexpected developments, Chen Xing immediately gave chase.
She was fast. As long as he was still inside, she would catch him quickly.
However, after running only a few hundred meters, she came to a fork with three paths.
’A one-in-three choice.’
The path was too narrow for Meng Hu to enter.
She had no choice but to pick one at random and continue the pursuit.
After seven or eight hundred meters, the path ended, opening into a large underground parking garage.
All the entrances and exits in the garage were sealed shut.
She went back and checked the second path; it also led to the parking garage. By the time she entered the third path, Chen Xing knew it was futile.
But she wasn’t one to give up easily until she reached the very end.
Before she had gone far, she saw a door ahead.
She pushed it open. Outside was the edge of a mountain forest.
A wide road cut through the middle, but there was no sign of him.
It was impossible to catch him now. Chen Xing could only head back to the residential complex.
’But... it’s not a big deal.’
’As long as this gang doesn’t target Ran Gaoyang’s team, I can take the blame for this.’
That was why she had intentionally revealed herself.
Taking Meng Hu with her, Chen Xing got in the truck and continued on her way.
In the middle of the night, she ate a meal of ten dishes and one soup, then had a wonderful night’s sleep.
It wasn’t until noon the next day that she called Song Yiguo and told him to have his people meet her in Lincheng, near the Capital City, to pick up the goods.
Chen Xing arrived in Lincheng first.
The entire city had vanished, leaving only a field of ruins.
It looked as if it had been carpet-bombed, a distressing sight.
With houses, people at least had a place to shelter from the wind and rain, something to call a home.
After one storm, almost everyone around the Capital City had lost their homes, adding another layer of hardship to their already difficult lives.
But for her, it was merely a passing thought.
Before Vice General Du arrived, she pulled two large trucks out of her space.
Each truck was packed to the brim with fifty pigs.
She also loaded the truck she was driving with five hundred chickens and ducks.
Before long, Vice General Du arrived with a few men.
Looking at the ruined city, Vice General Du’s brow furrowed slightly. "This is even worse than the Capital City!" At least a few buildings were still standing over there.
On the way back, Chen Xing sat in the SUV that Vice General Du was driving.
As they neared the Capital City, Vice General Du spoke up. "I heard from Young Master Song that the paternity test results are out."
Chen Xing turned to look at him. "The result must have been positive, right?" ’No surprise there.’
’The result is 100% a biological match.’
’If Cao Guangrong really is my biological father, then of course it would be a match. And if he’s an imposter, he would have come prepared. There’s no way he’d let a test come back negative.’
Vice General Du nodded. "That’s right."
He had heard from Young Master Song that they were suspicious of the test results.
He hadn’t expected Chen Xing to feel the same way.
"So..." Vice General Du gave a rare smile, his tone becoming much more familiar. "Young Master Song got ahold of Cao Guangrong’s toothbrush. He plans to find someone to run another paternity test for you personally when you get back."
Seeing such a rare expression on Vice General Du’s face, Chen Xing also smiled, relieved. "Then I suppose I should thank him?"
It seemed she would have to accept this favor; she didn’t know anyone in that field.
"Young Master Song said to consider it a thank-you gift for the chickens and ducks, so don’t worry about it," Vice General Du explained thoughtfully.
’That’s for the best!’
Chen Xing gladly accepted.
She believed Young Master Song wasn’t just doing this to curry favor with her.
’He must be hoping to find something out, which is why he’s offering to help.’
She would let Young Master Song investigate. It would be easier for him to look into it than for her.
Most of the refugees from the safety zone’s subway station had been dispatched elsewhere. Only a small portion of the zone’s original residents remained, occupying the few surviving houses.
In just two days, the main building was almost fully repaired, and even water and electricity had been restored.
Chen Xing couldn’t help but admire the Capital City’s efficiency.
Upon entering the Duole Safety Zone, Chen Xing spotted the anxious figure of Cao Guangrong at the main gate, where ordinary people could come and go freely.
Seeing Chen Xing and Vice General Du enter, a smile spread across his face, and he ran toward Chen Xing.
"Why were you gone so long? You weren’t hurt, were you? You didn’t run into any trouble? Do you know how worried Dad was when you left without a word? From now on, no matter where you go, you have to tell Dad. I’ll go through hell and high water for you, I’ll lead the way!"
Perhaps the paternity test had given him confidence, as Cao Guangrong was now calling himself "Dad" in every other sentence.
It made Chen Xing very uncomfortable.
"Mm," she replied coldly with a single word, then started walking toward her home.
She had been comfortable on her own these past two days and really didn’t want to come back.
But she had to.
"Dad has been waiting here for you for two days, so worried you’d run into danger! Xuexue..." Cao Guangrong trailed closely behind Chen Xing, talking nonstop. "I got the paternity test report. I saw it—you’re my daughter, there’s no mistake! How could a father not recognize his own daughter?"
"Oh, right... your mom came back this morning, too. From now on, our family can be together and never be separated again!"
Although Chen Xing showed no reaction, her mind started churning.
’With Cao Guangrong’s abilities, it would be nearly impossible for him to buy another slot to enter the Duole Safety Zone.’
