Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Preparing to Escape

"I want to escape too!" The youngest, Yanyan, who looked like she wasn’t even an adult yet, had eyes full of longing as she huddled close to Sister Feng.

"I want to as well, but I’m scared! When they caught me, they warned me they’d break my legs if I tried to run again!"

"They threatened me with the same thing, but I still want to escape!"

Once one person spoke up, more began to chime in.

Chen Chen, who had been captive the longest, seemed to have been assimilated. "It’s not that easy! Do you know how many Migratory Clans there are around Hualai City? I once saw another one of their groups, and there were a lot of them. If they have many teams like that, even if we get lucky and escape, we’ll just be captured again." Her voice was filled with despair and helplessness.

Although she had run out with everyone this time, she hadn’t gotten far before being dragged back. She could only resign herself to her fate.

Having struggled once was, in a way, enough to answer to her own conscience.

"If we can’t stay in Hualai City, we can go somewhere else!" Sister Feng’s defiant spirit was clear. "I took a look before we came in. The guards here aren’t too strict. If we can just get to the parking lot, we might be able to escape!"

Chen Xing, who had been listening to them the whole time, was speechless. ’Not too strict?’

At a glance, the place didn’t seem to have many people watching, and there were no walls or anything. But there were quite a few sentries hiding in the shadows.

’Running out blindly like that is just asking to die, isn’t it?’

Still, she had to admire Sister Feng.

So she opened her eyes again to observe Sister Feng more closely.

Sister Feng looked to be around thirty. She had a delicate face and a very well-maintained figure that was firm and fit. Her eyebrows, in particular, conveyed a stubborn resilience.

"Sister Feng, even if we aren’t caught by the Migratory Clan and manage to escape, the outside is crawling with zombies. We don’t have any skills and we have no food. How would we survive?" Gu Xinyan, who wore glasses, didn’t have striking features, but her face was fair and clear—she had the look of someone who read a lot. "Besides... I doubt we can even get out of this room!"

She had accurately pointed out several problems they had to face.

Sister Feng frowned, looking at the securely barred windows.

It was certainly a problem, but it wouldn’t stop her resolve to escape.

Her husband and child were still waiting for her. Although she didn’t know where they were, she firmly believed they were still alive.

A girl in her early twenties, who had been in the corner, suddenly stood up and walked toward them. "It’s not like there’s no way out!"

She was just over five feet tall, dressed in black leather, and extremely thin.

Her looks were decent, but she was so skinny it seemed a gust of wind could blow her away.

"You have a way?" Sister Feng asked excitedly.

Qiao Qiao nodded confidently and reached a hand into her top.

Everyone was speechless. ’That’s a bold move.’

When she pulled her hand out, it was holding a small metal wire.

The others were speechless. ’Pretty amazing, hiding something in there.’

But what could one do with a single wire?

"Qiao Qiao, stop messing around!" Gu Xinyan tugged on Qiao Qiao’s arm and explained to Sister Feng, "She just likes to joke. Don’t be mad!"

The two of them had been captured together the day before yesterday. They got along well, so she was protective of Qiao Qiao.

Sister Feng nodded in understanding.

They were all captives here, like a family. It was nothing to worry about.

Qiao Qiao’s lips curled into a particularly arrogant smile. "That door. I can open it."

The others looked at the wire in her hand, most of them still skeptical.

They had seen people picking locks with wires and things on TV plenty of times, but no one had ever seen it done in real life.

Besides, beyond this room’s wooden door was a large iron gate. How could that be picked so easily?

"Can you really open it?" Sister Feng chose to believe her.

It was far better than having no hope at all.

Qiao Qiao nodded with great confidence.

A hopeful smile spread across Sister Feng’s face. "Then let’s figure out how to get out of this house first..."

Just then, Chen Xing, who had been watching them, stood up. "Don’t do anything reckless. There are dozens of sentries watching outside. You won’t even make it a hundred meters before you’re all caught."

Everyone was speechless. ’Is she exaggerating?’

’How come none of us saw them?’

Sister Feng’s brow furrowed again, a shadow falling over her delicate features. "How come I didn’t see any?" Though it sounded like she was doubting Chen Xing, she was more so doubting herself.

If she had missed the guards, she would be endangering everyone.

"There are at least a dozen hidden in various spots on the path up the mountain. Four on the mountain facing the parking lot. Two at the ten o’clock position in the upper left, two at the eight o’clock position. Two at the two o’clock position on the right, and two at the four o’clock position. One in Room 10, one each in Room 18 and Room 24, and two on the summit..." Chen Xing rattled off more than twenty hidden sentry posts in one breath.

Everyone’s jaws dropped as they stared at Chen Xing in disbelief.

’She has to be making this up, right?’

They had only been in the parking lot for two minutes at most. Including the time it took to walk up the mountain, how could she have spotted so many people? And remember their exact positions and numbers?

In any case, they hadn’t seen a single one.

"Then is there still any hope for us to escape?" Yanyan asked in despair, tightening her grip on Sister Feng’s hand.

Everyone else was thinking the same thing.

With security this tight, how could a group of helpless women like them possibly run?

"What’s your plan?" Sister Feng’s thinking was different from the others.

The girl in front of her could spot so many hidden sentries in such a short time, which proved she was definitely capable. Moreover, she believed the girl must also want to escape, or she wouldn’t have observed everything so carefully.

And look at her dust-streaked face, completely unfazed. Even when everyone else was scared to death, she was able to sleep soundly. She was definitely no ordinary person.

The more she thought about it, the more she felt the girl before her was trustworthy. "No matter how difficult the plan is, I have to try. I have to get out of here alive and find my son!"

Chen Xing glanced at the group, not trusting all of them.

Some had lived hard lives outside; after being captured, they at least had something to eat and people to protect them. They might develop a sense of dependency, thinking that staying here wasn’t so bad, and could very well report them in secret.

"I don’t think everyone here wants to escape..." Chen Xing’s gaze deliberately swept over the crowd.

As soon as she said it, a few of them unconsciously avoided her eyes.

Sister Feng strongly agreed with Chen Xing. "We won’t force you to escape with us, but seeing as we’ve all been through this together, can you please not report us? I have a three-year-old son waiting for me to come back. I’m begging you!"

Her gaze was sincere, hoping they would try to put themselves in her shoes and understand her desperation to find her son.

The few who didn’t want to leave didn’t harbor any ill intentions. Hearing her plea, their hearts softened.

But then they thought, if the others escaped, those who remained would have a hard time explaining themselves.

They were deeply conflicted.

Just then, the main door outside suddenly opened. Footsteps echoed from the corridor, followed by the sound of the door to the next room opening, and then a loud cry of someone begging for mercy: "Sister..."
