With a smooth hum, three military jets flew up to the dark cliff. One was larger than the other two, flying in the middle of their formation.

Kreyn looked up as a slight smile appeared on his face.

"Huh, we did it... Not bad for my first day as a Hunter, right?"

Thump!

Kreyn’s eyes closed as he collapsed to the ground.

Soon, the sound of military boots filled the air as they rushed to his aid.

At the front was a man with short black hair and broad shoulders.

"Hunter Prima! We flew here as fast as we could!" the man, the squad captain, said.

The woman next to him glanced at Kreyn. "Sir, we need to give him immediate medical attention!"

"He’s fine." Prima looked at Kreyn. "He’s just tired. He used too much energy, but it was enough to throw the Renegade off."

No sooner did she say this than the soldiers’ eyes widened.

"Agh?" The captain was puzzled. "He fought a Renegade?"

"Yeah, it was a great punch."

Prima slung Kreyn over her right shoulder, while her rifle hung from her left.

"Alright, let’s not linger. If the Renegade comes back, no one’s getting out of here, and..." Her voice dropped. "You’ve heard what happened on Aegis A-13, haven’t you?"

The soldiers’ faces grew more serious.

"Yes, the loss of one of the floating islands is a disaster for the entire city."

"It is." Prima nodded as she headed toward the jet.

Soon, three fighter jets rose into the air and flew away from the dark cliff, staying high enough that no monster could reach them from the ground.

At the same time, the Renegade emerged from beneath the rubble, shattering the stone peaks with its massive body.

Its three eyes followed the fighter jets as its pupils narrowed. The source of its curiosity was gone, and even a monster like this had no way to stop them.

"ROOOOOOAAAAAARRRRR!"

A deafening roar echoed across the wasteland, causing sand lizards to hide behind rocks and other monsters to be on high alert.

Prima looked out the window, watching the Renegade.

’It’s a good thing we were able to get away in time. That aggressive Renegade... That’s not something a rookie should have to face on their first day.’

Then, she turned her gaze to Kreyn, who was sleeping by the wall.

’A blacksmith, huh? This guy would make an excellent fighter, but I don’t think he’ll be disappointed. This is a good place to be.’

For the next few hours, there was only the faint hum of engines and the occasional talk between the soldiers.

Only as they neared the end of the flight did Kreyn slowly open his eyes. His shoulders ached, as did his arms, which were still in their mutated form.

"Oh, you’re finally awake?" a voice called out from above.

Kreyn lifted his head to meet Prima’s calm gaze, but a slight smirk betrayed her true emotions.

"We’re almost there. I suggest you don’t miss this view, you won’t see anything like this from below." She stepped aside, making room by the window.

Soon, Kreyn’s eyes sparkled with excitement as he saw his city, Dust Star, for the first time from a bird’s-eye view.

The city lay in the middle of a wasteland, not far from a mountain range rising in the distance. High walls patrolled by soldiers protected the citizens from the monsters roaming nearby, and yellow beams shone from the searchlights.

The city itself was densely populated. There was no room here for spacious parks or nature reserves, only streets and countless buildings. The closer one got to the center, the taller the buildings became, reaching impressive skyscraper heights.

Right in the center stood a great spire towering above all the skyscrapers. A constant flow of energy emanated from the amber crystal at its summit, enveloping the entire city in a barrier with a honeycomb pattern.

"Wow... That’s actually a great view."

"Yes, it is. By the way, do you know where we need to go next?" Prima asked as they approached the runway. These were located on the city walls, just like the military headquarters.

From the look on Kreyn’s face, she realized she had to explain even that.

"Gosh, how did you even end up on the Aegis A-13? You must have gone through basic training. How can you not know that?"

Kreyn touched his cheek as he looked away.

"Well... I was one of the ’free ones,’ as they say. They let me try to become a Hunter, but they just brought me to the island, and that’s it."

The military exchanged glances as Prima froze.

"Ahem." She coughed. "Sorry, that was out of line on my part. Anyway, what I meant to say is that I can’t stay with you any longer, the military will take you from here, and first and foremost, you’ll have to go to the Hunter Hub."

"Hunter Hub?" Kreyn muttered as his eyes grew more intense.

He knew what kind of place it was. Hunters from all over the city gathered there, both experienced and new. However, it wasn’t just for Hunters, since the Hunter Hub was closely tied to the military and government officials.

"Yes. In short, they’ll check to see if you’re alright, and after that, you’ll need to demonstrate what you can do."

Prima pulled a silver badge from the pocket of her uniform. A nine-pointed star, the symbol of their city, was engraved on the back, and on the front was a simple - I.

"This means I’m a First-Rank Hunter, but in this case, something else is important. I have the silver badge, and the level of your badge will determine what missions you can take on, as well as certain bonuses and privileges. The badge level is independent of your rank, but it doesn’t carry over between ranks."

Kreyn tilted his head in confusion.

Prima touched her forehead, trying to figure out the best way to explain it.

"Let’s say you get the silver badge as well, but since you’re at the Initial Rank, your silver badge isn’t the same as mine. Do you understand?"

Kreyn nodded, looking at her badge.

"I see. So I should try to get the best badge possible?"

"Basically, yes, but it’s rare for a newcomer to jump above their level. Almost everything depends on your Core Gene and your ability, since you haven’t had time to develop the rest of your powers yet."

She shrugged.

"That said, a lot also depends on the person themselves. Even a Hunter with the most powerful ability will be useless if they’re trembling with fear when facing a monster."

Prima gave him a long look and smiled contentedly.

"I don’t think you’ll have any problems with that."

Soon, their fighter jet slowly touched down on the runway as the military personnel hurried to fall into formation.

Prima stepped outside as she waved her hand.

"Good luck, Kreyn. I’ve never met rookies like you before."

Kreyn smiled and looked ahead. The military officer, along with two people in black suits, clearly from the government, were already making their way toward the jet.

They were here for Kreyn.

It was time for him to officially become a Hunter, and the Hunter Hub was the first step toward that.
