Crazy Awakening: My luck can copy Talents.

Chapter 35: I Finally Learned How to Control My Broken Powers

"Ishtar, darling. When have I ever done anything weird?"

"Constantly."

"A tragic misinterpretation of my pure intentions."

"Lira."

"Ishtar."

"No. Weird. Stuff."

"No weird verbal stuff," Lira negotiated, still sprawled across the rug. "But training requires physical contact. Intense physical contact. Prolonged physical contact. That isn’t weird. It’s educational."

Ishtar looked at Adrián with the expression of someone presenting evidence in court.

"See, brother-in-law? This. This is what I’m going to have to deal with for two hours."

"..."

"Inside. Both of you."

Adrián walked in.

Lira, in no hurry whatsoever, rose from the rug with her usual liquid grace.

She stood.

Adjusted her kimono.

Then looked Adrián up and down with calculated slowness.

"Darling. Before we begin, let me explain how this is going to work."

She folded her fan.

"Silvano taught you theory this morning. I’m going to teach you application."

Lira raised one finger.

"In your case, there are three specific things you need to learn before the mission the day after tomorrow."

A second finger.

"One: activate and deactivate the Mask at will, without needing someone to attack you."

A third.

"Two: consciously channel Fool’s Luck instead of using it purely reactively."

Then:

"Three: attempt your first Copy."

"First Copy?"

"Yes."

Her smile widened.

"And that’s why they gave you to me."

Adrián immediately disliked the wording.

"Silvano refuses to share his Talent with new reincarnates on principle. Rhea is busy. Kael went to the coast. And Nikita flat-out refused."

She opened her arms slightly.

"So you got me."

"..."

"Don’t worry, darling. I’m delighted to share my Talent with you."

Her smile became suspiciously serene.

"It’s a very intimate experience."

A pause.

"Very sensory."

From where she was leaning against the wall with a bag of popcorn she had somehow produced from nowhere, Ishtar snorted.

"Lira. Behave."

"Ishtar, darling, you can participate too if you’re feeling left out."

"I don’t feel left out. I feel vigilant. Rhea specifically paid me to watch you."

"Ah."

Lira nodded.

"Well, then."

She waved one hand.

"Watch."

Then she turned back toward Adrián.

She took two steps closer.

Adrián caught the scent of her perfume—jasmine and something darker—much more strongly than he needed to.

"Let’s start with the Mask," she said. "Activate it."

"I tried two days ago. It only works when someone attacks me."

"I know. Silvano told me."

Lira tapped her folded fan lightly against one palm.

"This time, you’re not going to wait for an attack. You’re going to bring it out from inside yourself."

She tilted her head.

"We’re doing a different exercise from the one you did with Ishtar. That was reflex."

She pointed at his chest.

"This is will."

"Close your eyes."

Adrián closed them.

"Now."

Her voice softened.

"Think about your Mask. Don’t think about danger. Don’t think about being attacked. Think about the Mask itself."

Adrián breathed slowly.

"Its shape. Its color. The details around the edges. The texture of the glove around your hand when it appears."

He pictured it.

The Mask rotating slowly above his head.

The golden details along its edges.

The black gloves tightening around his fingers.

"Think of the Mask as something you already own," Lira continued softly. "Something that already exists."

Her voice became almost hypnotic.

"Something that is simply waiting for you to let it out."

Adrián concentrated.

"Now..."

Lira stepped closer.

"Don’t think of the Mask as something outside of you."

A pause.

"Think of it as something inside you."

"Always."

"It never went anywhere."

"The only thing that changes is whether you choose to make it visible."

Adrián frowned.

"...That’s weird."

"Darling, all of this is weird."

"Fair."

"Keep going."

Lira’s voice remained soft.

"The Mask lives in your soul. You don’t summon it from somewhere else."

"You push it out."

"It’s a push, not a call."

She lifted one hand.

"It’s closer to exhaling than speaking."

"Okay."

"Exhale."

Adrián exhaled.

And the Mask appeared.

No violent burst.

No flash.

It emerged with the natural ease of a muscle moving for the first time and realizing it had always known how.

The Mask floated above his head, rotating slowly.

The gloves formed over his hands with a small silver shimmer.

Adrián opened his eyes.

"...Okay."

Lira smiled.

Wide.

Genuinely pleased in a way that, for once, looked entirely professional.

"Very good, darling."

She nodded.

"Very good."

"Now deactivate it."

"How?"

"The opposite."

She pointed toward his chest.

"Inhale. Pull it back inside."

Adrián inhaled.

The Mask disappeared.

The gloves dissolved.

"Now activate it again."

He exhaled.

The Mask appeared.

"Deactivate."

He inhaled.

Gone.

"Again."

Again.

"Again."

Again.

"Again."

For twenty minutes, Adrián did nothing except activate and deactivate the Mask.

At first, it took effort.

Then less.

Then almost none at all.

By the end of the exercise, he could do it without closing his eyes.

Without deliberately concentrating.

With the same natural ease as clenching and relaxing a fist.

After Adrián completed the twentieth cycle, Lira clapped three times with genuine delight.

"Darling~ you’re going to be a pleasure to train."

Adrián looked at her.

"You learn very quickly when you’re not tense."

"...Thanks."

"Now we get to the fun part."

Her smile widened.

"Fool’s Luck."

"Okay."

"Take out a coin."

"A coin?"

"Any coin. From your pocket."

Adrián searched his pockets.

He pulled out an old coin he had absentmindedly kept for several weeks.

He showed it to her.

"Good," Lira said. "Now flip it."

"And before it lands, decide in your head whether you want heads or tails."

She raised a finger.

"But don’t say it out loud."

"Seriously?"

"Very."

"Flip it."

Adrián tossed the coin into the air.

"Heads."

The coin landed in his other palm.

He looked down.

Tails.

"Tails."

Lira smiled.

"You wanted heads?"

"Yeah."

"Good. Again. Ask for whichever one you want."

Adrián flipped it again.

"Heads."

Tails.

"Tails."

"Again."

"Tails."

The coin landed.

Heads.

"Heads."

"You wanted tails?"

"Yeah."

"Good."

Adrián frowned.

Lira smiled at him.

"Do you see what’s happening, darling?"

"I’m getting every single one wrong."

"Correct."

She lifted one finger.

"And that, darling, is because you’re not actually getting them wrong."

Adrián stared at her.

"You’re activating Fool’s Luck without realizing it."

Lira walked slowly around him.

"And Luck, when it isn’t being channeled, does the opposite of what you want."

She tapped his shoulder with the folded fan.

"It’s a statistical property of your card."

"The Fool does not grant wishes."

A pause.

"The Fool distorts them."

Her violet eyes gleamed.

"Always."

"..."

"Now we’re going to try channeling it."

She stepped back in front of him.

"Close your eyes again."

Adrián obeyed.

"Hold the coin."

He closed his fingers around it.

"Now I want you to feel the Luck."

Lira’s voice dropped lower.

"It’s inside you, just like the Mask."

"But it’s a different muscle."

She tapped his chest lightly.

"The Mask lives here."

Then she touched the back of his hand with one finger.

"Luck lives here."

Adrián focused.

"Concentrate on the hand holding the coin."

"Feel an extra weight."

"An invisible weight."

"Like something outside you is pressing against the coin."

"..."

"Can you feel it?"

Adrián frowned.

"...A little."

"Good."

Lira’s voice softened.

"Now, with your eyes still closed, flip it."

Adrián raised his hand.

"And before it lands, don’t choose heads or tails."

He paused.

"What do I choose?"

"Choose the word want."

Adrián frowned.

"That’s it?"

"That’s it."

A smile entered her voice.

"Just..."

"I want."

"And trust it."

Adrián flipped the coin.

"I want."

The coin landed in his palm.

He opened his eyes.
