Chapter 195: Chapter 137: Reinforcements

The outskirts of Daxing Mountain.

A river flowed out from the depths of Daxing Mountain, passed through Wuling City, and emptied into the sea. The river wound around Wuling City like a jade sash, which is how it earned the name Jade River.

On the rocky banks of the river, three Taiping Captains were surrounded by a pack of demons.

They stood back-to-back, fending off the demonic siege.

The three of them were quite strong. With every move they made, a demon would be injured or even fall, but there were simply too many of them.

Despite their best efforts to resist, they were still frequently wounded by the demons’ sharp claws, sending sprays of blood into the air.

"Charlatan, didn’t you say this was auspicious? This is an auspicious end for us, all right!"

Liu Yang said, swinging his saber.

"That’s what the divination said, it’s true! Trust me, maybe reinforcements will drop from the sky any minute now."

Ding Shiyun said.

"Look at the state we’re in. Who do you think could possibly come and save us now?"

Liu Yang said, "Junior Sister Zhang has three deadweights with her. She’ll be lucky if she can protect herself.

This place is a trap, and I doubt things are any better where they are.

As for our other colleagues, even if they received our distress signal, it would take them over a dozen hours to get here.

Do you think we can last that long?"

PSH!

As he spoke, Liu Yang failed to dodge in time and suffered another gash.

The three of them quickly switched positions, and Zhong Guizheng’s saber cleaved the demon that had wounded Liu Yang in two.

"What about the Captain?"

Ding Shiyun said weakly, his own confidence wavering.

It was obvious the Chaotic God Grass was a trap.

They were besieged by demons, and the other two groups were probably faring no better.

Lin Qi Huan was powerful, but even he might not be able to break away in time to save them.

"Kill one and we break even. Kill two and we’re in the black."

Zhong Guizheng said coldly, "So we kill as many as we can!"

His vital energy surged. His long saber was unstoppable, faintly radiating the power of a martial intent.

If it weren’t for the sheer number of demons, it wouldn’t have been impossible for Zhong Guizheng to carve a bloody path out.

He was at the peak of Blood Exchange Perfection and had mastered four different saber forms; he was not far from comprehending a true martial intent.

Unless he was facing a Tier One Peak demon, none of the other demons were a match for him.

"Senior Brother Zhong, it looks like the two of us are done for today. You should escape."

Liu Yang spat out a mouthful of blood and said, "One of us has to make it out alive. Otherwise, there won’t be anyone left to burn paper money for us."

"We leave together, or we die together."

Zhong Guizheng said coldly, his saber techniques growing even sharper.

Demons swarmed in endlessly from all directions. Even aquatic demons leaped out from the Jade River.

This was far more than a hundred—there were at least two or three hundred of them now.

The ground around the three men was already piled high with demon corpses, at least fifty or sixty of them.

But the trio’s situation was grim. They were all injured, and most terrifyingly, their stamina was draining at an alarming rate.

Even Zhong Guizheng, the strongest among them, could feel his stamina plummeting. His combat strength was already down to sixty percent of his peak.

If this continued, even if the demons didn’t kill them, they would die from sheer exhaustion.

PSH!

Liu Yang’s saber pierced through the body of a Tier One Demon. He let the Demon Blood spray over him as he gasped for breath.

He kicked the demon’s corpse away, but his feet stumbled, and he nearly fell.

Zhong Guizheng reacted in a flash, pulling Liu Yang behind him as he slashed forward with his saber.

A thick white mist escaped his lips and nose, and his face turned pale.

He had repeatedly used his unformed martial intent, severely draining his vital energy. His stamina was clearly dropping.

If he kept fighting so fiercely, he would surely lose his last chance to escape.

"Senior Brother Zhong, don’t hesitate."

Ding Shiyun said, "We don’t know what’s happening with Junior Sister Zhang, and the Captain is probably tied down too. Someone has to get back and report this.

Otherwise, if these rampaging demons get into the village, the casualties will be uncontrollable."

If over a hundred demons were to storm the village behind them, the several hundred people there wouldn’t stand a chance.

The other nearby villages would surely fall victim to the demonic disaster as well.

The only hope was for someone to go for help and bring back reinforcements as quickly as possible.

The only one who could do it was Zhong Guizheng.

"If I go, you’ll surely die."

Conflict showed on Zhong Guizheng’s wooden face.

"When has a Taiping Captain ever been afraid of death?"

Ding Shiyun gave a carefree smile. "If it is my fate to die here, then I believe this is the best possible ending."

"Fate, my ass! I knew your divinations were never accurate."

Liu Yang cursed, "Come on! If you want me dead, you’ll have to pay with a few of your own lives!"

The two of them charged out at the same time, determined to create an opportunity for Zhong Guizheng to escape.

Zhong Guizheng’s expression was agonized, his mind torn.

"Hold on! I’ll be back soon with the City Defense Army!"

Zhong Guizheng bellowed, and with a furious roar, he began to fight his way out.

Liu Yang laughed heartily, but his legs gave out, and he tripped over a rock on the riverbank.

Seeing an easy target, a demon pounced on him.

"Liu!"

Ding Shiyun cried out, wanting to turn back to help, but several demons leaped at him at once, and he couldn’t even fend for himself.

Liu Yang rolled weakly on the ground twice. His vision went dark as the demon lunged down on top of him.

He was about to be splattered across the ground.

Suddenly, a flash of saber light flew over with a whistling sound.

PWSHH.

The saber light buried itself in the demon’s body, and the immense force sent the creature flying sideways. It crashed through several other demons before landing on the ground with a THUD.
