Chapter 212: Chapter 145: Drawing the Bow

’Just as I thought,’ Su Mu said to himself.

Fortunately, he wasn’t arrogant enough to truly believe he could hold back the Demon Tide alone and had prepared for the worst.

"Chen Song, evacuate the civilians! Prepare for street-to-street combat!"

Su Mu shouted as he saw more and more demons swarming over the top of the wall.

"Yes, sir!"

Chen Song shouted his acknowledgment. He swung his long saber, forcing back two unranked demons, then ran toward the stairs to get below the wall and implement the second plan.

Suddenly, a demon that looked like a leopard cat pounced with lightning speed, appearing behind Chen Song in an instant.

The demon’s teeth and claws glinted menacingly, poised to rip Chen Song in two.

In the blink of an eye,

A figure crashed in from the side, slamming into the demon and sending it flying.

"Go!"

Zheng Tu roared, swinging his saber to block the pursuing demon for Chen Song.

SQUELCH!

Chen Song heard the sound of tearing flesh behind him. He didn’t know if it was the demon’s body or Zheng Tu’s.

But he had no time to look back.

He had to execute Captain Su’s second plan as quickly as possible, or the death toll would only rise.

RUMBLE!

Chen Song was only halfway down the stairs when the earth suddenly quaked. He lost his balance and went tumbling all the way down.

When he dizzily got to his feet, he was horrified to discover a massive hole had been punched through the city wall.

Countless demons were pouring into the Outer City through the breach.

Chen Song’s vision went black.

’It’s over!’

WHOOSH!

Several figures leaped over his head.

Zhong Guizheng and Wei Bufan leaped from the wall, landing before the breach.

With furious roars, the two charged out through the breach, the light from their sabers flashing like a snowstorm.

"I am Zheng Tu! My brothers call me Zhen Guanxi! As long as I’m here, don’t even think about taking one step into this city!"

A burly figure sprinted past Chen Song and used his own body to block the breach, desperately swinging his long saber. His armor was already stained a shocking, crimson red with blood.

Chen Song struggled to his feet and noticed with horror that Zheng Tu’s movements had stopped.

His massive body still blocked the breach in the wall. Beyond him, two Taiping Captains were fighting for their lives.

Only then did Chen Song see the gaping wound that pierced straight through Zheng Tu’s chest. He could even see the outside through the hole in his body.

"Captain Zheng!"

Chen Song let out a grief-stricken roar.

He rushed forward to support Zheng Tu.

But at that moment, demons lunged and pulled Zheng Tu’s body down.

Chen Song charged forward, swinging his saber to cleave the demon tearing at Zheng Tu’s corpse in two.

Soon, he too was tackled to the ground by demons.

Although Zhong Guizheng and Wei Bufan were fighting desperately, demons still managed to break through the gap in the wall.

Chen Song jammed his saber into a demon’s maw, resisting with all his might as despair filled his heart.

Suddenly, with a flash of sword light, the demon was sent flying.

In an instant, the sword light fell like a torrent of rain, enveloping all the nearby demons.

Amid a constant sound of steel piercing flesh, demon after demon collapsed. For a moment, the breach in the wall was actually secured.

Chen Song looked up and saw a woman standing in the breach.

The woman wore the uniform of a Taiping Captain. On her back, she carried a bow almost as tall as herself, and in her hand, a longsword danced without pause. She cut a valiant and heroic figure.

"Sir," the woman asked, "if I may, where is my Senior Brother Su?"

The woman asked without looking back, her sword never ceasing its dance.

Only then did Chen Song realize she was speaking to him.

"Captain Su is on the wall."

Chen Song said quickly.

"Please, take this bow up to him. I’ll hold them off here."

Luo Anning tossed the bow from her back to Chen Song.

"This bow is very important. Please make sure it gets into Senior Brother Su’s hands."

Luo Anning said.

"Yes, ma’am!"

Chen Song’s heart tightened. "I’ll get this bow to him, even if it costs me my life!"

Without another thought, he grabbed the bow and pushed himself up.

He immediately staggered, nearly falling flat on his face.

’The Female Captain carried it so easily... How can this bow be so heavy?’

Chen Song was stunned, but he was a Fourth Stage of Body Tempering Martial Artist, after all. He gathered his strength, hoisted the bow, and ran for the top of the wall.

’The Female Captain was so serious about delivering this bow. It must be extremely important. I have to complete this mission!’

Chen Song thought to himself.

...

BANG!

On the ramparts, Su Mu was sent flying backward. His feet dragged across the stone for dozens of yards, knocking over countless demons before he finally managed to regain his footing, barely stopping himself from falling off the wall.

He looked up, his expression turning incredibly grim.

’So, it’s finally here?’

A Tier Two Demon!

The black panther-like demon leaped onto the ramparts, immediately swatted a Taiping Captain aside, and began to massacre the Outer City Martial Artists.

In the space of a single breath, at least seven or eight Martial Artists had been killed by its fangs and claws.

Su Mu had moved to intercept it, but he was swatted away after just one exchange.

A Tier Two Demon’s power was comparable to that of a Rebirth Realm Martial Artist!

TWANG!

TWANG!

Several Demon-Breaking Crossbow Arrows shot toward the Tier Two Demon from different directions.

A flash of disdain crossed the Tier Two Demon’s emerald-green eyes.

It lifted a paw. With a glint of cold light, the Demon-Breaking Crossbow Arrows were instantly sliced into pieces, falling to the ground with perfectly smooth cuts.

WHOOSH!

It blurred, pouncing on an Outer City Martial Artist who had just fired an arrow. A single swipe of its paw was all it took to pulverize the man’s head.

"Die!"

Enraged, Su Mu let out a roar. A faint golden light glowed around him as he stomped down so hard his boots burst apart.

The Thunder Shocking Saber struck the Tier Two Demon like a bolt of lightning.

Indestructible Golden Body, Profound Yellow Blood, Gen Mountain Realm, Xun Wind Realm, and Kan Water Realm.

All of his power, along with his seething rage, was poured into this one slash.

With a screech of metal on metal, the Tier Two Demon was sent tumbling head over heels. It climbed back to its feet, whimpering.

A gash deep enough to reveal bone had opened up on its body, and foul-smelling Demon Blood trickled down its black fur.

Su Mu’s strike seemed to have utterly infuriated it. An angry growl rumbled in its throat, and all its black fur bristled.

Su Mu narrowed his eyes, slowly raising the Thunder Shocking Saber in a two-handed grip.

’That last strike was the strongest I have.’

’And it only managed to injure this Tier Two Demon.’

’The wound looks severe, but for a Tier Two Demon, it’s just a flesh wound.’

’Even if I can’t win, I have to hold it off. If I let it rampage on the wall, no one will survive.’

"AWOOOO!"

With fury in its eyes, the Tier Two Demon pounced like lightning.

CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!

Su Mu was sent flying again, slamming into the parapet with a THUD. A trickle of blood escaped the corner of his mouth.

The Tier Two Demon landed on all fours, its form flickering as it charged Su Mu.

Su Mu swung his saber to block, but the tremendous impact sent him flying once more.

"Captain! The bow!"

While Su Mu was still in mid-air, the Tier Two Demon leaped high, diving down at him from above. It bared its sharp claws and fangs, preparing to deliver the killing blow.

’A mere Blood Transformation Realm Martial Artist dared to injure me? I’ll eat him!’

This simple, demonic thought glinted in the Tier Two Demon’s eyes.

Just then, a man came running, shouting at the top of his lungs. Using every ounce of his strength, he hurled the bow he was carrying toward the airborne Su Mu.

After throwing the bow, Chen Song collapsed to the ground, completely spent.

Seeing an easy target, a demon pounced onto his back and bit down on the nape of his neck.

Su Mu, still airborne, heard Chen Song’s cry and saw a bow nearly as tall as a man flying toward him.

Though confused, Su Mu didn’t hesitate. He ignored the searing pain racking his body and caught the bow.

"Use your blood as a catalyst! Draw the string, and an arrow shall form!"

The moment Su Mu caught the bow, a voice echoed in his ear.

Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of a woman in black running up onto the wall.

With no time to think, Su Mu spat a mouthful of blood onto the bowstring. As he fell, he twisted his body to face the sky and drew the massive bow.

By now, the Tier Two Demon was just a few feet away, and the drawn bow was aimed squarely at it.

VMMMM!

A dazzling, blood-red arrow suddenly materialized on the bowstring.
