Cultivation: Immunity to Negative Effects

Chapter 274: Honored Guest Elder and Desert Eagle

Chapter 274: Chapter 274: Honored Guest Elder and Desert Eagle

’Looks like I’ll have to change my strategy. That’s the only way I’ll learn more about the Immortal Cultivation Realm any faster.’

Over the past few days, Zhang Chi’s Cultivation had been steadily recovering and had already reached the Qi Cultivation Middle Stage. At the same time, however, he was starting to lose his patience.

After all, eavesdropping on the conversations of mortals wasn’t yielding much of the information he needed.

And the relationship between those three Cultivators was somewhat unusual; they hardly ever communicated with one another.

So, with a subtle shift of his Divine Thought, Zhang Chi instantly stripped away a layer of the caravan’s protection.

It turned out that the Endless Desert Sea was home not only to natural disasters like sandstorms but also to a great variety of strange Demon Beasts.

Many of these Demon Beasts would lie hidden in the sand, ambushing any creatures that passed by.

But Zhang Chi’s Divine Thought was so powerful that by deliberately revealing it, he could instantly scare off any Demon Beast within a thirty-thousand-zhang radius.

After all, the Demon Beasts here were normal; they knew to cherish their lives, unlike the fearless and exceptionally bloodthirsty Demonized Beasts from the Demon Abyss.

To avoid being disturbed during this period, Zhang Chi had been intentionally projecting his Divine Thought thirty thousand zhang out from the caravan, forming a protective barrier.

Now, however, he had withdrawn this Divine Thought Barrier. Before long, Demon Beasts would surely be drawn in to attack the caravan.

When that happened, he could reveal a bit of his strength, allowing him to deal directly with the other Cultivators and proceed with the next phase of his plan.

Of course, if no Demon Beasts showed up, he wouldn’t mind letting Flying Dragon No. 1 make a cameo.

Meanwhile, among the caravan, the two Cultivators accompanying the young Patriarch were both middle-aged men. Though they rode their camels in silence, they were, in fact, communicating via sound transmission.

"Fellow Daoist Huang, has the Shang Family contacted you? We were supposed to ambush and kill this kid on the road, weren’t we? We’ll be at our destination in three days. If we don’t make a move, we’ll lose our chance!" one of the Cultivators, a fair-faced man with no beard, sent via sound transmission to the other, who had three long strands of beard.

"Don’t be hasty, Fellow Daoist Liu. They contacted me long ago. In fact, they were planning to strike ten days ago, but for some reason, the three Tier One Peak Desert Eagles they brought refused to get close at the critical moment."

"No matter how they tried to command them, it was no use. They had no choice but to postpone the plan. Now, they’re trying to figure out why and find a way to make the Desert Eagles cooperate," replied Fellow Daoist Huang, the man with the three strands of beard.

"The Desert Eagles refused to approach? How strange. Still, whether their plan succeeds or not, they’d better not short us on the reward they promised," Fellow Daoist Liu replied, slightly taken aback.

"Of course. It’s not our fault they missed their chance. The reward won’t be a penny less. You can rest easy, Fellow Daoist Liu!" Fellow Daoist Huang replied with a faint smile.

"Good. You know, I almost feel sorry for the kid. As Honored Guest Elders who have even married women from the Shang Family, we shouldn’t be doing this to him. A pity we have no choice," Fellow Daoist Liu continued, breathing a sigh of relief.

"Tell me about it. The other branches of the Shang Family may not have any Foundation Establishment Realm Cultivators, but they have members at the Qi Cultivation Peak and far more Cultivators overall. Not like this kid, Shang Deyi—he’s the only Cultivator in his entire branch."

"We don’t want to die, and the Spirit Contract prevents us from leaving the Shang Family prematurely. So, of course, we had to side with the other branches."

"Fortunately, the Spirit Contract we signed pledges loyalty to the Shang Family, not to its Patriarch. So, technically, this isn’t a betrayal," Fellow Daoist Huang replied via transmission, nodding slightly.

--

’This is great! I made a bet with Second Uncle and the others. As long as I can complete this delivery, they and the clan elders will acknowledge my abilities and support me as the Patriarch. Then, our Shang Family won’t have to become a vassal of the Feng Family. And now, I’m finally about to complete the journey.’

Not far away, the Shang Family youth, Shang Deyi, was unaware that his two Honored Guest Elders had already betrayed him. Seeing the destination draw closer and closer without a single Demon Beast encounter, his heart filled with anticipation and joy.

But just then, a sudden eagle’s cry pierced the sky.

Then, three enormous golden eagles, each with a wingspan of a full two zhang, dove down like lightning, heading straight for Shang Deyi.

BANG!

Shang Deyi was hit instantly, thrown to the ground, coughing up blood.

Fortunately, at the critical moment, a white pendant hanging around his neck shattered, enveloping him in a white light that shielded his entire body and thwarted the sneak attack of the three massive eagles.

Otherwise, even though he was wearing a Magic Robe, he wouldn’t have had time to fully activate its defenses, let alone block the three massive eagles.

This was because the three eagles were all at Tier One Peak and were none other than the infamous Desert Eagles of the Endless Desert Sea.

Although the Desert Eagles’ Level was not high, they were considered among the most troublesome of all Tier One beasts.

Like master assassins, the three massive eagles, having failed in their first strike, immediately soared high into the sky. They began to circle, patiently searching for their next opportunity.

Meanwhile, the caravan below descended into utter chaos.

Both the three-humped camels and the mortals were overwhelmed. They trembled under the immense pressure exuded by the Demon Beasts, collapsing to the ground where they stood.

Shang Deyi scrambled under a cargo wagon, his face a mask of terror.

The two Honored Guest Elders, however, were secretly overjoyed, but they maintained impassive expressions as they leaped from their camels and rushed toward Shang Deyi.

"Patriarch, don’t be afraid! We’re here to protect you!"

"That’s right! With us here, no one can harm you, not even the Desert Eagles."

They shouted as they ran.

Shang Deyi was touched by their apparent loyalty and was about to respond.

WHOOSH, WHOOSH!

But the two Honored Guest Elders suddenly unleashed their Magical Artifacts, aiming to kill him.

One Magical Artifact was a cyan, leaf-shaped Flying Sword; the other was a black Flying Wheel with serrated edges.

BANG!

Caught completely by surprise, Shang Deyi was struck and sent flying, coughing up a mouthful of blood.

"You... Why are you attacking me?"

Shang Deyi’s face was a mask of shock, rage, and terror.

"Eh? The kid’s not dead?"

"I get it! He’s wearing Inner Armor! We’ve hit the jackpot, hahaha!"

The two Honored Guest Elders ignored his question, their faces lit up with greedy surprise. They immediately pressed their attack, urging their Magical Artifacts forward once more.

"I’ll fight you to the death!"

Gritting his teeth, Shang Deyi unleashed his own Magical Artifacts. A ruler shimmering with white light and a Golden Small Shield shot out—one to defend, one to counter—and he began to fight back against the two Honored Guest Elders.

But it was a losing battle; one man was no match for two. Worse, he had already been wounded by their sneak attacks, and he quickly found himself at a disadvantage.

"As expected of the Shang Family Patriarch, the kid is loaded with Magical Artifacts."

"Yeah! And per our agreement, all this loot is ours for the taking!"

The two Honored Guest Elders grew even more excited.

Soon, they joined forces to strike down Shang Deyi’s Magical Artifacts. They then dragged him out from under the wagon and slapped a golden talisman paper onto his forehead.

Instantly, Shang Deyi found he could still speak but was otherwise paralyzed.

Next, the two Honored Guest Elders stripped off Shang Deyi’s Magic Robe and took his Storage Bag. Sure enough, underneath his robes, they found a piece of silvery-white Soft Armor, a Magical Artifact.

"Alright, now we just let the Desert Eagles finish him off," Fellow Daoist Huang said with a sigh of relief.

"What about the others?" asked Fellow Daoist Liu.

"Kill them all. They saw us make a move on Shang Deyi. If we want to keep our positions in the Shang Family, we have to silence them. Can’t have any loose tongues wagging," Fellow Daoist Huang said with a casual smile.
