"Before I apply for the test, I would like to know the level of Void Control required to pass it," Yuan said.
"Does it really matter? You either pass or don’t," Sergeant Quang remarked.
"It does to me."
"..."
After a moment of silence, Sergeant Quang sighed out loud before speaking, "Watch. This is the level you must reach to pass the test."
The next moment, Sergeant Quang used Void Control, teleporting left and right in a steady rhythm. Each teleport covered exactly one hundred meters—not a single meter more or less.
"You’ll be required to do more than just teleport left and right," Sergeant Quang said afterward.
"There will be obstacle courses," Sergeant Bing elaborated.
"I see..."
Yuan nodded, committing Sergeant Quang’s demonstration to memory. He wanted a proper benchmark so he wouldn’t go overboard during the test and completely obliterate it.
After all, he needed to make it as believable as possible. Learning Void Control so quickly was already outrageous enough. If he displayed a level of mastery that would normally take eras to achieve immediately after learning it, it would undoubtedly raise a lot of eyebrows.
Yuan turned to Wu Wang and spoke with a smile, "Thanks for the training. I will do my best not to disappoint you."
"S-Sure..." Wu Wang nodded with a stiff expression, looking a bit embarrassed.
"Now... where do I go to take the test?" Yuan asked.
"You can do it by attempting to accept a Red Zone mission," Sergeant Bing explained. "If you don’t meet the qualifications, you’ll be prompted to take the test. Once you accept, you’ll be scheduled for the next available session."
"The mission hall, it is."
Yuan immediately made his way to the mission hall.
While he entered the queue to wait for his turn, soldiers would come up to him and ask, "What mission will you be accepting this time, Corporal Yuan? Another cleanup mission?"
"Haven’t you heard? He’s doing gathering missions now."
"Perhaps he’ll do something different this time."
Yuan replied, "It’s a secret."
Once it was his turn to use the machine, Yuan immediately picked the mission that required him to gather Unknown Ores in the Red Zone.
<Checking soldier’s qualifications>
<You currently lack the permit to enter the Red Zone>
<Would you like to schedule the Red Zone Exam for the permit?>
<You have been accepted to partake in the next Red Zone Exam, scheduled to begin in 77 hours and 32 minutes>
When Yuan returned, Sergeant Quang asked, "When is the test?"
"In 77 hours."
"What are you going to do until then? Keep on practicing your Void Control?"
He nodded.
"But I intend on doing it alone. Since I already learned it, I can practice by myself," he then said.
"Are you sure? I don’t mind training you for a few days," Sergeant Quang said.
Yuan smiled and said, "Just your thoughts are enough."
"If you insist."
Once Yuan returned to his living quarters, he said, "I’ll be training in my room, so you don’t need to escort me anywhere until the day of the exam."
"Training inside your room?"
They looked at him with raised eyebrows. Although they all lived alone, none of their homes were spacious enough to practice Void Control.
Of course, Yuan had no intention of actually practicing Void Control.
"See ya in 77 hours."
Before they could question him, Yuan hastily retreated into his living quarters and closed the door, leaving them speechless.
"The more time I spend with him, the more mysterious he feels," Sergeant Bing remarked with a dazed expression.
"Now that I think about it, he never goes anywhere in between missions, always remaining inside his home," Sergeant Quang remarked.
"He did go to the training area... once," said Sergeant Bing.
They left shortly afterward, still wondering what Yuan did with his spare time.
Meanwhile, back in his room, Yuan sat in the lotus position with his eyes closed, cultivating using the Limitless Cultivation Technique.
One of the main reasons Yuan could use Limitless continuously without exhausting himself, unlike everyone else, was the Limitless Cultivation Technique, which he cultivated whenever he had the opportunity.
The deeper Yuan’s understanding of the technique grew, the more he realized just how powerful it was, especially when paired with his Perfect Heavenly Refinement physique.
’Although it appears simple at first glance and is relatively easy to learn, the deeper I study it, the more profound and difficult it becomes!’
An excited smile tugged at Yuan’s lips. It had been a long time since he had encountered something that truly challenged him.
Time passed swiftly, and 77 hours later, Yuan left his living quarters and followed Sergeant Bing to the exam area.
An hour before Yuan showed up at the exam site, several individuals suddenly appeared, startling the examiners there.
"G-General Mei?! And Officers?!"
General Mei and some of her officers had shown up unannounced.
"Don’t mind us. We’re here to spectate today’s examination. That’s all," said Mei Feng.
"O-Of course! Please, let me show you to the spectator’s room!"
Since it was a simple exam held several times a month, it rarely drew spectators, especially those of higher rank. As for someone of General Mei Feng’s standing, this was the first time a person of her rank had ever attended, hence why the examiners were bewildered by her presence.
Once Mei Feng and her associates left for the spectator room, the remaining examiners began openly wondering why she had come.
"It must be one of the examinees! That’s the only reason to come here! Check the list again! Find out who she’s here to see!"
"I-I think I found him! Corporal Yuan! That’s the super rookie who aced the last recruitment and broke all of its previous records!"
"Huh? The last recruitment was only a few months ago, and he’s already a Corporal?"
"I’m more interested in why he’s already taking this exam. Does he even know what he’s walking into? There’s no way his Void Control is anywhere near the level needed for this exam."
"Perhaps he’s just taking it to see how much work he needs to reach such a level."
"I guess we’ll see in an hour..."
