Everything fell silent as only the cold winds of the ruined sky continued to howl across the shattered landscape.
Jacob stood motionless above the now listless Myth of Black Archer. The battle had ended, yet for Jacob, the true reward had only begun.
His flaming eyes glowed faintly as countless strands of soul force extended from his Soul Totem and pierced into the Black Archer’s soul star.
"Soul Search!"
This time, Jacob didn’t use Autarch to take over the Myth of Black Archer flawlessly because, after encountering Whiteness, he was now wary of letting Autarch out because of the Fantastic Insect Demiurge.
He also didn’t let Nyx use her abilities on him because they’d take time, and he wouldn’t be able to perform the next step of the Myth of Black Archer once Jacob got the latter’s memories.
That’s why he decided to use the Soul Search and see if he could get enough to go on with his plan. Even if he didn’t get much, he was confident he could still follow suit!
The moment he used the Soul Search, endless fragments of memories surged before Jacob’s eyes... days... weeks... months... years... centuries... millennia.
The entire lifetime of the Myth of Black Archer unfolded like pages within a book.
Jacob calmly sifted through them. At first, he saw nothing unusual, like training, missions, assassinations, and battles, but then his eyes subtly changed.
"...Interesting."
Because even after searching through thousands of years of memories, Jacob discovered something strange.
The Myth of Black Archer knew almost nothing about his own origin. The earliest memory wasn’t of childhood, family, or homeland, but of a slave cage.
A filthy underground market where a young dark-skinned elf child with silver hair and obsidian eyes was chained alongside countless other slaves, filled with fear, pain, and hunger.
That was the first memory, and nothing before it existed as if his life had simply begun there.
Jacob continued searching.
The child was eventually purchased by an assassin organization, and for centuries, he was trained, forged, broken, and rebuilt, then raised into a perfect killing machine.
He learned darkness, stealth, and, most importantly, how to survive, yet despite becoming one of their greatest assassins, the organization never knew it had created its own destroyer.
Because eventually, the Black Archer discovered the truth. The very organization that raised him had also exterminated his clan, or at least the people they claimed were his clan.
The records were fragmented, ancient, and incomplete. But according to those records, an unknown Dark Elf tribe possessing both Dark and Space affinity had once existed somewhere within the Legendary Plains.
A tribe that mysteriously vanished, every trace erased, and every member slaughtered. The organization responsible? His own masters!
The result had been inevitable, and then bloodshed followed as a massacre so complete that not even the organization’s founders survived. The young assassin personally exterminated everyone.
Jacob’s eyes narrowed because, even after all that, no answers were found, as the Black Archer had never discovered another member of his race.
Throughout thousands of years, across the entire Legendary Plains, every kingdom, continent, and countless hidden realms, he found nothing; no other Space Dark Elf existed.
At least none that he ever found; thus, he remained completely alone, a singular existence. Even he eventually accepted that he might truly be the last of his kind.
Afterward came another turning point when he met a powerful and mysterious woman. The Myth of Oracle.
Jacob watched countless memories of her. The mysterious Quasi-Myth discovers the wandering assassin, recruits him, guides him, and protects him. Giving him a purpose greater than revenge.
The Mythical Coalition!
For perhaps the first time in his life, the Black Archer had found something resembling belonging. Yet his loyalty wasn’t to the Mythical Coalition itself, but to the Myth of Oracle. That much became immediately obvious.
At that moment, the Myth of Black Archer’s soul star started to crack as blood oozed out of his orifices, but Jacob remained indifferent and continued digging deeper.
Soon, the memories he truly wanted began appearing. The Mythical Coalition, as one secret after another unfolded before him, revealed many Quasi-Myths, hidden operations, and some members secretly embedded throughout the Legendary Plains.
The most astounding part was that the Mythical Coalition wasn’t some hermit organization as they claimed to be; in fact, there were entire organizations unknowingly influenced by Coalition agents, including the three absolute factions!
Even several important figures Jacob already knew possessed indirect connections to them, like the Soulless Ghost King, the Cursed Necromancer King, and even the Champion King!
But the deeper he searched, the stranger everything became, especially regarding one person, the Myth of Reverend.
Jacob’s eyes flickered as this was the information that interested him the most.
Apparently, even the Myth of Black Archer possessed doubts as the man’s appearance had been too abrupt. For countless years, the Mythical Coalition had operated under entirely different structures.
But all of a sudden, the Myth of Reverend appeared with such authority that his influence became absolute, and somehow everyone simply accepted it.
Even many veteran Quasi-Myths found it suspicious, yet nobody could find fault or evidence, not to mention oppose him, especially with the Myth of Oracle’s support.
A frightening thought that frequently surfaced within the Black Archer’s memories was the Myth of Reverend, truly the master of the Mythical Coalition, or merely another piece on a much larger board?
Unfortunately, the answer wasn’t there, as even the Myth of Black Archer didn’t know.
Jacob continued searching, and soon he found the most recent memories about the sudden changes within the Coalition, the emergency mobilization, disturbance detected by the Myth of Reverend, and the disappearance of the Undead Skyfall’s armies.
The strange urgency gripping every Myth, the dispatch of the vanguard, and finally, the mission given to the Black Archer to investigate the Sagittarius Continent, find the source of the anomaly, gather information, and avoid unnecessary conflict.
Right at that moment, the memory abruptly shifted just when Jacob’s shuttle appeared.
The Black Archer’s own thoughts surfaced. At first, he had been cautious, then curious, then greedy, because he believed Jacob possessed answers, that he could extract information from him, and that he could control the situation.
The rest, Jacob already knew, as silence returned. The soul-search slowly ended when his soul was about to break apart. Nonetheless, the Myth of Black Archer’s body remained limp as, despite being alive, he was now broken.
Jacob could continue as there were still deeper memories hidden within the soul, but forcing further would completely destroy it, and the current harvest was already enough.
Jacob opened his eyes, and eerie intent flickered in them.
"I know enough."
Without hesitation, a black vortex suddenly appeared across his skeletal face, and the terrifying Gluttony Mask emerged, which was essential for the next step!
