Far away, deep within the hidden sanctuary at the edge between the Evil and Blood Domains, Nelson sat alone in his chamber.
His expression was grim as the audience with Constant Viscount-0009 had ended hours ago, and the response he received wasn’t one he liked, not even slightly. His fingers tapped the armrest slowly.
Everything was becoming increasingly dangerous and complicated, yet despite the risks, the path ahead still aligned with his original objective. Which meant he had no choice but to continue even if it was the other way around.
’Although I didn’t get to see that swindler God, I’ve learned something useful about the Blissful Everlife God and their followers. Furthermore, given how excited that numbskull was, he probably won’t hide this information from the swindler God and will report it without holding anything back.
’Maybe this will catch that swindler God’s attention, and they’ll contact me. But the chances of it happening are close to none since I’ve been waiting and yet nothing!
’Nonetheless, I still got something useful out of that numbskull, a way to become powerful through the followers of the Order of Everlife. But it’s still not enough to go after that monster, just enough to protect myself and those two, and get the hell out of this damn place!’
Finally, after long contemplation and with a superstitious plan, Nelson rose from his seat, for it was time to speak with Lucy and Ellie, as their next move needed to be decided.
However, just as he reached the door, something unexpected happened. A sharp hum filled the entire vessel, and Nelson froze instantly.
Every projection screen inside the ship suddenly flickered, communication arrays activated on their own, monitoring crystals illuminated, and even displays that were already operating abruptly changed.
His heart nearly stopped as, for a terrifying moment, only one possibility occurred to him.
’Faceless Ancient! Did he find us!?’ Nelson thought as cold sweat appeared on his back, but he forced himself to calm down, ’No, if he had found us, there wasn’t any need for these theatrics!’
Elsewhere, Lucy and Ellie stared in alarm at the sudden phenomenon as the entire hidden vessel descended into panic.
But quickly, the screens stabilized, and the face of a man with a warm smile and gentle yet terrifying vertical pupil eyes appeared.
The moment Nelson saw him, his expression changed completely as he instantly recognized the man.
It was none other than the orchestrator of the biggest war in the Legendary Plains, the founder of the Order of Everlife, the one currently directing the Mythical Coalition, and, on top of all that, the one who had forced Nelson and his loved one into this death-filled continent!
"Myth of...Reverend!" Nelson uttered the name with profound hatred and killing intent.
In the projection, Myth of Reverend smiled warmly, as an old friend meeting another old friend, and his cheerful voice echoed throughout the vessel.
"Dear friend..." His smile widened slightly. "I hope you’ve been well."
The moment every projection screen across the spaceship shifted and revealed the Myth of Reverend’s smiling face, Nelson’s expression darkened.
That gentle smile, that warm gaze, and calm demeanor; to anyone unfamiliar with him, he looked like a harmless scholar greeting old acquaintances.
But Nelson knew better and knew exactly how terrifying the man behind that smile truly was. Without wasting a second, Nelson immediately turned and rushed toward Lucy and Ellie’s chambers.
His first thought wasn’t of himself but of them.
’That bastard found us again!’
Although Nelson was expecting to meet the Myth of Reverend again after the latter had let them go with that confidence, he hadn’t expected it to be so soon. The Myth of Reverend was many things, but subtlety wasn’t one of them, even though he already held the upper hand.
Nelson’s heart tightened as countless grim thoughts swirled in his mind, ’What if he is already aboard? What if he has somehow bypassed every defense? What if Lucy and Ellie are already hostages...?’
Countless such thoughts flashed through his mind as he burst through several corridors. Yet when he arrived... nothing happened, for Lucy and Ellie were still there, perfectly safe, with no mysterious visitors, hidden Quasi-Myths, or that smiling prick sitting in their chambers.
Only countless holographic projections floating throughout the room display the image of the Myth of Reverend.
For the first time since seeing that face, Nelson relaxed slightly, but just slightly. Because although this situation was bad, it was nowhere near as bad as the Myth of Reverend personally appearing. A trace of relief unconsciously surfaced on his face.
Unfortunately, the Myth of Reverend noticed it immediately, and he chuckled softly.
"Ah..." He shook his head with amusement. "I can almost hear your thoughts, old friend."
His eyes curved pleasantly, "Don’t worry, as I’ve told you before, I’m a pacifist, and I dislike violence. More importantly..."
He placed a hand over his chest, "I would never harm a friend’s loved ones."
Nelson’s jaw tightened as every word sounded sincere, but that was what made it worse.
At that moment, The Myth of Reverend shifted his attention to Lucy and Ellie, and as his gaze landed on them, his eyes lit up.
His smile became even warmer and almost respectful.
"Oh!" He appeared pleasantly surprised, "So these are the famous young ladies I’ve heard so much about."
He stood up from his projected chair and performed a courteous bow, "My apologies. I’ve forgotten my manners."
Straightening himself, he smiled brightly, "I am the Myth of Reverend. A dear friend of Nell here."
Nelson almost broke something upon hearing that, but Myth of Reverend, however, continued cheerfully.
"You have no idea how happy I am to finally meet both of you." His expression suddenly became apologetic, "Unfortunately, I didn’t prepare any gifts. Since I’m visiting like this, I hope you’ll forgive me."
He sighed dramatically, "But don’t worry. When we finally meet in person..."
A mysterious smile appeared, "I’ve prepared some rather lavish gifts. It’s the least a friend can do."
Lucy and Ellie exchanged looks, but neither spoke. Normally, they weren’t the type to be intimidated.
But they had already learned enough about the Myth of Reverend to understand something. This man was dangerous, far more dangerous than those who openly threatened you. The truly frightening people were those who smiled while doing it!
