Cursed Immortality

Chapter 1262: The News That Shook the Main Fleet (2)

Unbeknownst to the Myth of Reverend’s inner thoughts, on the other hand, the Quasi-Myths, despite having their doubts, didn’t outright express them in front of the Myth of Reverend and glanced towards the Myth of Oracle meaningfully.

The Myth of Oracle sensed their signals but ignored them, as this wasn’t the time to appease their curiosity, since it no longer mattered.

She finally spoke in a cold tone, "Myth of Reverend, you heard the report."

"I did." Myth of Reverend nodded softly. "A very moving story. A disciple reunited with her teacher amid death and despair. Quite touching."

Despite his sarcastic remark, no one laughed.

The Myth of Oracle’s voice became colder. "This is not the time for jokes."

"I agree."

The simplicity of his answer made the chamber even quieter.

Myth of Oracle continued, "The war has become meaningless. Our primary target has already left the continent. The Death Lord is gone, and her teacher is an unknown variable powerful enough to affect the Undead Skyfall. Continuing this campaign may bring losses without reward."

This time, almost all the Quasi-Myths secretly agreed; even the Myth of Inferno and the Myth of Thunder did not refute her, while Jacob’s eyes flickered subtly.

Everyone present there agreed with Myth of Oracle’s words as the original objective had been disrupted, the undead had retreated, and the target had vanished, so advancing deeper now was irrational.

But the Myth of Reverend gently shook his head, "I’m afraid we cannot withdraw."

The Myth of Oracle’s mask faced him directly. "Reason?"

The Myth of Reverend smiled. "Because the target may not have left."

The chamber stirred, and Myth of Oracle’s pentagram slowed. "Explain."

The Myth of Reverend calmly said, "The Death Lord left with her teacher. That is what the survivors saw. But did anyone confirm they left the Sagittarius Continent?"

Silence descended as the Myth of Reverend continued, "This continent remains under a divine restriction. Even Quasi-Myths cannot easily enter or leave at will, and after the Undead Skyfall reacted, that restriction became even stronger. If that mysterious teacher truly fought the Undead Skyfall, then he may have paid a price. He may be hiding and currently recovering. Or maybe even searching for something."

Myth of Thunder frowned, "Searching for what exactly?"

The Myth of Reverend’s smile deepened as he declared, "Treasures!"

The word instantly changed the atmosphere, and even those who had been thinking of retreat looked over.

After gaining everyone’s attention, the Myth of Reverend slowly raised his hand, and a projection of the Undead Skyfall Canyons appeared.

"Do all of you really believe the Sagittarius Continent fell only because of the undead? No. The Undead Skyfall Canyons are not merely a nest. They are a grave, a seal, and a vault."

Myth of Oracle remained silent, and the Myth of the Reverend’s voice became lower, carrying a weight that made everyone listen.

"Long ago, a fallen God was sealed within the depths of the Undead Skyfall Canyons. The undead armies exist not only to conquer but to guard that seal. Over countless years, divine remnants, death-law treasures, fallen relics, and sealed inheritances have accumulated there."

The Quasi-Myths’ breathing changed while the Myth of Reverend’s eyes flickered ambiguously, as only he knew that some of this was true, and some of it was not, and that was precisely why it was convincing.

Myth of Reverend continued, "Now, after clashing with that mysterious teacher, and if the former really made the Undead Skyfall suffer, and since the latter has withdrawn all armies. Why? Fear? Injury? Preparation? Whatever the reason, this could be the first opening in countless years."

The Myth of Inferno’s eyes narrowed. "You’re saying the sealed existence is weakened and injured? Not to mention a God at that? Is it really possible for a Mortal to do that? Moreover, if that mysterious teacher can even injure a God, do we really have a chance to contend with him?"

"All I’m saying is there is a possibility, and since we have all the witnesses, the Undead Skyfall is really not the god he used to be. As for that teacher, since he was in a hurry to leave, it’s quite clear he wasn’t a true God either, since they simply can’t exist within the Legendary Plains!"

The Myth of Reverend smiled gently. "And since he had a disciple inside for so long, he probably knew about the truth. So, if the mysterious teacher is still inside the continent, then he is likely aiming for the same opportunity right now."

The room grew heavy again; now it was no longer simply about chasing the Death Lord or even reclaiming the Sagittarius Continent, but about a fallen God’s sealed treasures and divine remnants.

It was about an opportunity that might never appear again!

Myth of Oracle quietly said, "And if this is bait?"

Myth of Reverend nodded. "Then we proceed carefully. But retreating now would mean giving everything to that unknown person."

The Myth of Oracle did not immediately answer as she understood what the Myth of Reverend was doing.

He had turned a failed hunt into an expedition, and he had mixed enough truth with temptation that retreat would now seem cowardly and wasteful. Most importantly, he had avoided telling them the most critical possibility that their true target, the Cursed One, might no longer be the Death Lord, but might be her teacher.

After a long silence, Myth of Oracle decided to keep that information to herself for the time being and finally spoke, "The fleet will not advance recklessly. The vanguard will secure the survivor zone and expand scouting. No one enters the inner Undead Skyfall Canyons without joint approval."

The Myth of Reverend seemed to have no qualms about this arrangement, smiling and nodding. "A wise decision."

The meeting continued for a while longer, but the outcome was already set. The war would continue, yet not as a rescue or as a hunt but as an expedition into the grave of a fallen God.

Jacob, who had attended the whole meeting and, after seeing the Myth of Reverend for the first time and how the latter operates, couldn’t help but flash a cruel smile as if mocking the Myth of Reverend for his overconfidence!
