Daily Intelligence System: Financial Independence

Chapter 773 - 369: New Intel and Jiang Tao’s Warning!_3

He forced open the heavy inspection hatch, and a gust of air reeking of dust and rust rushed out.

He leaned half his body out, aimed the beam of his high-intensity flashlight down into the deep, black shaft, then slowly moved it upward.

Liu Fei carefully examined every single component at the top of the shaft—

Steel wire ropes, guide sheaves, the overspeed governor...

And, most crucially, the upper limit switch and its associated interlock mechanisms.

The flashlight’s beam froze on an inconspicuous corner.

At first, Liu Fei only felt that something there seemed a bit off, like the cable wrapping wasn’t quite neat.

He narrowed his eyes, adjusted his focus, and concentrated the light on it.

The next second, Liu Fei’s pupils contracted sharply, and the blood in his whole body seemed to freeze in an instant!

He saw that the actuating linkage of the upper limit device—responsible for forcibly cutting power when the car overshoots the top floor leveling position, serving as the last line of mechanical safety—was, for some unknown reason, bent at an abnormal angle!

As if it had been struck by some enormous external force!

And that still wasn’t the most fatal part!

What really made his scalp prickle and cold sweat pour down was this.

On the bundle of main control power lines connected to that damaged limit device, the most critical conductor’s insulation had already been worn through and split open.

The metallic core of the power cable was exposed.

And it was hanging on to the jagged metal edge of the broken limit device by only the last few hair-thin copper strands!

Those strands of copper were even swaying slightly in the faint airflow inside the shaft, glinting with an ominous metallic sheen!

"Fuck!!!"

Snapping out of his shock, Liu Fei let out a loud curse.

The flashlight in his hand almost slipped and fell into the bottomless shaft!

He was a professional; he knew all too well what this meant!

This upper limit device was already in a failed state!

And once that barely-connected power line completely snapped, the elevator control system would receive a deadly erroneous signal.

Or it could directly throw the control system into chaos!

The most terrifying possible outcome was that the brake system might release abnormally, and the traction machine would lose control!

The car, under the pull of gravity, would turn into a runaway shell, racing down along the guide rails in free fall, shooting straight toward the bottom of the shaft!

What people commonly call "a drop from top to bottom"!

Free-fall elevator!

The word exploded in his mind like a thunderclap!

This kind of incident is absolutely catastrophic in the elevator industry!

Liu Fei didn’t dare imagine that tomorrow morning, during rush hour, this elevator might be packed with employees hurrying to work.

If this hidden hazard suddenly erupted when the elevator was running near the top floor...

What kind of hell-on-earth scene would that be?!

Blood and mangled flesh? Shattered bones and torn sinews? Mass casualties?!

The consequences were beyond imagining!

A wave of enormous aftershock, like a bucket of ice water dumped over his head, made his whole body go cold; even his teeth began to chatter uncontrollably.

Liu Fei braced himself against the edge of the inspection opening, gulping for air, his undershirt already soaked through with cold sweat.

His clothes clung tightly to his skin, sending waves of chill through him.

"How did the person who called know about this situation?"

"He even knew which exact elevator it was, what the problem might be..."

Amid his shock, the voice of the man who had called him replayed in Liu Fei’s mind.

Although he still had many doubts, he felt immense gratitude toward Jiang Tao.

If it weren’t for that phone call, if it weren’t for Jiang Tao’s almost ’prophetic’ warning and the pressure he put on him—

He would never have come here tonight, and this fatal hidden danger would have continued to lurk until it caused an irreparable tragedy!

By then, Liu Fei wouldn’t just lose his job; he’d probably spend the rest of his life drowning in endless remorse and harsh legal punishment!

"Call! Make the call! Get people here! Fix it now! Fix it right now!"

Snapping back to himself, Liu Fei fumbled out his phone in a panic and started calling several of his colleagues.
