Dao Lord: Starting from a Top-grade Golden Core
Chapter 109 - 73: Celestial Dao Field, Profound Fire True ThunderChapter 109: Chapter 73: Celestial Dao Field, Profound Fire True Thunder
The waters of Yunmeng Marsh rippled and swayed.
Golden-scaled fish leaped through the water and great whales played, while Spiritual Cranes occasionally soared through the sky.
As far as the eye could see, the world above and below blended into one. Sky and water merged into a single hue, their boundary lost amidst swirling clouds and a fine, misty rain that fell like a sweet, immortal dew.
Lin Ling stepped out of the courtyard and took a deep breath of the sweet, misty air. "Compared to the thunderclouds constantly rolling over Shenxiao Mountain," she remarked, "Yunmeng Marsh feels much more like an Immortal Blessed Land."
Lin Shanshang glided out gracefully as the courtyard gate closed automatically behind her. She sighed softly. "Sister, you’d best not let Senior Brother Yue and the others hear you say that."
Lin Ling pouted but didn’t respond directly. Instead, she said, "Let’s hurry up and visit Senior Brother Xu. I can’t wait to see what the Tai Su Sect is like! Oh, right! I have to ask Senior Brother Xu if he really fought Zhong Shenxiu. None of the rumors I’ve heard seem to agree..."
At this, a curious glint appeared in Lin Shanshang’s eyes. She nodded silently, and the two of them set off.
Time seemed to have left no mark on the two of them. Lin Ling was still her quirky, spirited self, marveling at everything she saw, while Lin Shanshang remained quiet and serene.
The two chattered incessantly as they walked, though, in truth, Lin Ling did most of the talking. Shortly, just as they were about to leave the small island, they saw a large group of Daoists in white robes. There were twenty or thirty of them in a grand procession, led by servant disciples to the island’s dock. After a brief exchange, they all flew off on their Magical Artifacts, leaving trails of light in their wake.
"Huh?" Lin Ling said in surprise. "Those people are wearing Tai Su Daoist Robes, too. Why are they staying here with us on Yingbin Island and still need servant disciples to guide them?"
Lin Ling wasn’t really expecting an answer from Lin Shanshang when a hearty laugh suddenly rang out from another path. "Haha, what’s so strange about that? I take it you don’t know, Junior Sister."
A Daoist in a green robe ambled over from the other path and said in a leisurely tone, "Those people are members of the Tai Su Sect, no doubt. But here in Yunmeng Marsh, they are merely sojourners. They are completely unfamiliar with the area, so of course they need servant disciples to guide them."
When Lin Ling saw him, she glanced sideways at Lin Shanshang. Seeing her sister’s impassive expression, she was secretly amused. Outwardly, however, she said respectfully, "Senior Brother Yue."
Lin Shanshang followed with a slight curtsy, greeting him placidly. "Senior Brother Yue."
The newcomer was Yue Yujie, a veteran True Disciple of the Yuxiao Sect’s current generation, who had traveled with the two sisters to the Tai Su Orthodox Sect.
Yue Yujie laughed heartily and strode over to them. "Junior Sisters," he asked, "did you two rest well yesterday?"
Although he was addressing both of them, his gaze was fixed almost entirely on Lin Shanshang. Lin Ling scoffed under her breath and subtly shifted to block his view, saying with a beaming smile, "The scenery is lovely and the spiritual energy is so abundant. We rested wonderfully, of course."
"Don’t change the subject, Senior Brother Yue," Lin Ling pressed. "Hurry up and tell us. If those people are from the Tai Su Sect, why are they staying here like guests? I thought the Tai Su Sect didn’t have any branches in the Divine Continent."
"You’re right, Junior Sister. The Tai Su Sect has no branches in the Divine Continent." Yue Yujie didn’t seem to mind her tone and smiled. "However, the Tai Su Sect controls dozens of stars out in the cosmos, using them as Celestial Dao Fields to enlighten the populace and spread the Dao... The number of disciples in each of those Dao Fields isn’t necessarily any smaller than in the main sect."
"What!" Lin Ling said in astonishment. "Is that really true?"
"Hahaha," Yue Yujie said leisurely. "It’s not really a secret, just something people don’t often talk about. After a True Disciple of the Tai Su Orthodox Sect breaks through to the Nascent Soul realm, they are typically sent out into the cosmos. They either establish a new Dao Field or preside over an existing one for at least a century. It’s to prepare them for eventually leading the sect."
Lin Ling was taken aback. "So that’s what happens?" She then added thoughtfully, "No wonder you rarely hear about the Tai Su Orthodox Sect’s famous True Disciples after they reach the Nascent Soul realm."
"Precisely," Yue Yujie said smugly. "Yunmeng Marsh may be as vast as an ocean, its territory expansive and resources abundant, but it is a Water Realm, after all. Humans are only scattered across the Land Continent and its islands. How could its population possibly compare to that of the Central Plains or the Zeji Land?"
"But the disciples of the Tai Su Sect are never second to anyone. This is not only because the sect’s destiny is flourishing and it produces a constant stream of prodigies. The talented cultivators originating from the Celestial Dao Fields are also an extremely important factor."
"From what I know, the new Master of the Tai Su Orthodox Sect was one such talent. He distinguished himself from among the hundreds of millions of people in the Celestial Dao Fields, was brought to the Profound Yellow Realm to cultivate, and forged a Top-grade Golden Core. He was from the same generation as my own uncle..."
Just then, Lin Shanshang’s expression shifted, and she cut in, "Senior Brother Yue, watch your words."
Yue Yujie froze, then felt a pang of regret. ’How can one speak so casually of a Primordial Spirit True Man?’ he thought. ’Even if he himself might not care, I shouldn’t have made such a blunder.’ He gave an embarrassed smile and replied, "Thank you for the reminder, Junior Sister. I was being presumptuous..."
As they spoke, the three of them neared the island dock. After only a few moments of silence, Yue Yujie asked, "The grand ceremony isn’t for a few more days. Where are you two junior sisters off to?"
Lin Ling replied, "We’re going into the Tai Su Sect to visit Senior Brother Xuzhuang. If you have important matters to attend to, Senior Brother, please don’t let us keep you."
"Oh?" Yue Yujie either didn’t notice or ignored the hint in Lin Ling’s words. Instead, a glint appeared in his eyes. "You mean the Xuzhuang who is rumored throughout the Divine Continent to have fought Zhong Shenxiu to a standstill? You two are acquainted with him?"
For reasons unknown, Lin Ling puffed up with pride and replied smugly, "That’s right. I’ve known Senior Brother Xu since before any of us had even formed a Golden Core."
Yue Yujie said, "What a coincidence! The current rumors in the Divine Continent say he’s on par with Zhong Shenxiu. I would love to meet him. Might I accompany you two?"
Lin Ling was speechless for a moment. Seeing Yue Yujie’s completely unruffled expression, she cursed inwardly, ’How shameless.’ Sullenly, she replied, "Of course... But Senior Brother Xu is very good friends with me and Senior Brother Fang. You’d better not be looking for trouble."
