Chapter 191: Chapter 113: Wasted Time or Not

Yin and Yang merge, giving birth to the myriad things. The myriad things are born and reborn, their transformations endless.

Xuzhuang fell into deep thought after reading the jade slip.

The Yin Yang Merging Dao was truly worthy of being the fundamental Dao skill of the Harmony Sect. Yin-Yang harmony might be the path the sect chose, and the proper way to study the two forces, but the Yin Yang Merging Dao itself was a Superior Dao Skill. It comprehensively explained the many facets of Yin and Yang: their mutual embodiment, their transformative and nurturing properties, their fundamental nature, their opposition, and their ultimate unity.

Heaven and earth, sun and moon, thunder and lightning, wind and rain, the four seasons, male and female, hard and soft, motion and stillness, manifestation and concealment, and even form and substance—everything in creation could be divided into Yin and Yang. It was no wonder a Tao Scripture said, "One Yin and one Yang is the Dao." Xuzhuang had only briefly studied the Yin Yang Merging Dao, yet he already felt he had benefited immensely.

Xuzhuang tapped his fingertips lightly on the table and smiled freely. ’I owe him a great deal for this.’

Although the Sword Step Master had said it was a reward for his helpful words, Xuzhuang didn’t feel his grand speech was worth a fortune. He was a seeker of truth who judged right and wrong by his own standards. ’I’ll just find an opportunity to repay him in the future,’ he thought, putting away the jade slip.

While Xuzhuang was lost in thought, Sun Suzhen and the others didn’t disturb him, instead watching and discussing the grand competition in the arena. The fourth match was easily won by a disciple named Fei Fan Yan.

It was quite interesting. Women were typically of a gentler nature, and in the Tai Su Sect, many female disciples chose to cultivate the Dao skills of the True Form Lineage. Yet this Fei Fan Yan had been taught the Tai Su Primordial Qi Scripture. Moreover, her cultivation was extremely profound. She unleashed immense Magical Power at every turn, and her fighting style was grand and imposing—truly a marvel to behold.

Zhe Junyang clicked his tongue in admiration. "As expected of the favorite to win this competition. She’s truly extraordinary."

Sun Suzhen said with great interest, "Her background is anything but ordinary. A performance like this is only to be expected."

"Oh?" Xuzhuang was slightly surprised. Sun Suzhen was well-connected and well-informed, so he wouldn’t say such a thing without reason.

His curiosity piqued, Xuzhuang looked toward the arena. He saw Fei Fan Yan, her hair in a Flying Heaven Bun wound with gold thread, a Lotus Pattern marked between her brows. She wore a wide-sleeved Flowing Immortal Skirt, her bearing as graceful as an immortal’s. She truly looked extraordinary. "Whose disciple is she?" he asked in wonder.

Sun Suzhen laughed heartily and shook his head. "I only know that if our Tai Su Sect followed the same rules as the Spirit Treasure Sect, we might have to call this young woman Martial Aunt, or perhaps even Grand-Martial Aunt."

"What?" Zhe Junyang was taken aback. "Doesn’t that mean Fei Fan Yan is the personal disciple of some unknown Zhenren in the sect? No wonder they say her background is extraordinary!"

While they were discussing this, Fei Fan Yan left the arena. The four finalists had now been decided: Li Changfeng, Zhou Jun, Tang Fanglai, and Fei Fan Yan. According to the schedule, after a one-hour break, the next match would be the duel between Li Changfeng and Zhou Jun.

One hour wasn’t a long time, and having watched this far, very few people left. The atmosphere remained lively as the sect members discussed animatedly amongst themselves.

Beneath the main venue, the sect had arranged for many quiet rooms where the competing disciples could regulate their breathing and calm their minds. Yuan Hao parted ways with a few of his fellow disciples, made his way through the crowd to the area, and was stopped by a Steward who stepped into his path. "The competing disciples are recuperating," the Steward said sternly. "Outsiders are not to disturb them."

Yuan Hao knew the rules, so he cupped his fist in acknowledgment and waited with his hands at his sides. He wanted to send a message but feared he would disturb the person’s meditation. So, he waited patiently for the full hour. Finally, he heard footsteps approaching. Looking up, he saw a young but mature-faced cultivator slowly walking out of the corridor.

Yuan Hao bowed deeply. "Eldest Senior Brother," he called out.

"Junior Brother Yuan." A slight smile appeared on Li Changfeng’s face. "You didn’t go see Junior Brother Zhou. It seems you think my chances of winning are lower."

Yuan Hao said hurriedly, "That’s not what I meant at all!"

Li Changfeng laughed. "Junior Brother Zhou is exceptionally talented, and his Dao skills are powerful. However, I’m not without a chance of winning. You don’t need to worry, Junior Brother."

Just then, the ringing of a golden bell echoed from the sky, and a five-colored streak of light flew into the center of the arena. Seeing Yuan Hao at a loss for words, Li Changfeng casually patted the back of his head and smiled. "I appreciate your concern, Junior Brother. It means a lot. Now, I’m off."

With a flash, he transformed into a beam of sword light and landed in the arena, facing Zhou Jun. Zhou Jun cupped his fist and smiled. "I didn’t expect we’d meet so soon, Senior Brother Li. Please be merciful."

Li Changfeng laughed heartily. "I know you’re determined to take first place, Junior Brother, and so am I. There’s no need for us to hold back. Let’s give it our all!"

Before Zhou Jun could reply, another sound rang out from the sky. Both of their expressions immediately turned solemn. They exchanged salutes, then a brief smile, and moved in unison.

Li Changfeng didn’t stand on ceremony. He immediately used Sword Escape to take the high ground. Forming a hand seal for a Sword Technique, he sent a beam of sword light shooting up from above his head before it streaked down to attack.

Although he and Zhou Jun were acquainted through Yuan Hao, they were unfamiliar with each other’s Dao skills. He was starting with Sword Qi to test the waters.

Zhou Jun was already prepared. He immediately activated an escape light, partly to dodge the attack and partly to avoid getting trapped in the relentless assault characteristic of a Sword Cultivator.

Seeing this, Li Changfeng’s eyes narrowed and he instantly changed tactics. Pointing his sword fingers downward, he made the Sword Qi tremble and erupt into dozens of sharp streams. They rained down like a shower of sparks, cutting off Zhou Jun’s escape.

Zhou Jun’s expression remained unchanged. He took out a handful of star sand and tossed it upward, where it formed a shimmering, aurora-like barrier that blocked all of Li Changfeng’s Sword Qi.

But one move followed another without pause. Zhou Jun had just dispelled the rain of sword strikes when, before he could break away, a Flying Sword came shooting toward him. A Sword Cultivator’s assault was truly like a torrential storm—relentless and unending.

Zhou Jun’s brow twitched. He knew this was Li Changfeng’s personal Flying Sword, not something as easily handled as the previous Sword Qi. A glint flashed in his eyes, and a surge of pride welled up in his chest. ’Since I can’t escape,’ he thought, ’I might as well see just how sharp Senior Brother’s Flying Sword really is.’
