"This place had better be secured. I don’t want to encounter a situation where I have to watch over you while, at the same time, worrying about some ceiling falling onto your faces. I might only be able to save Phillip and Vin. Who knows, really."

Cillian didn’t forget to give Fergus a jab every once in a while, throwing out some remarks that might put him off along the way.

"..."

However, Fergus simply let it be by staying silent as he led them to a place he had specifically worked hard to find, since he was the one who had asked to do this in the first place.

Why would Cillian need to bother himself when it was Fergus who had requested to become a Ruiner? His role would only be that of an observer. Well, of course, he would take care of Phillip and Vin. It was the least he could do for them.

But Fergus was different from them.

He was... unbearable.

Cillian didn’t want to change his view of Fergus when nothing warranted a change. He was still the Fergus Cillian knew, albeit a little more mild-mannered after all the experiences he had just been through.

’I mean, if you got trashed at the Academy by some commoner and saw the difference in skill, then had your entire family slaughtered afterward, life would probably humble you down. Only deranged individuals would like what happened... in a kind of way.’

Thinking that he was moving past the topic, Cillian stopped his thoughts there and continued walking while throwing out some remarks here and there.

He found the situation boring since nothing exciting was happening as of yet.

Eventually, they reached a room. With a simple unlock from Fergus, the three of them entered.

The room was large enough for dozens of people to stay in. However, instead of the usual decorations a room would have, this one only had three white beds, enough for the three of them to stay while Cillian helped them take the path to becoming Ruiners.

"Fergus bought this place away from the main area where most of the damage from Viola’s attack occurred, just for this. We all checked it, and it’s sturdy enough to stand on its own."

Phillip tried to calm Cillian down when his remarks were becoming nastier. One thing he was wrong about, though, was that it was only the bare minimum Cillian could do.

There were many more things he had stored in his mind, but he preferred to stay silent for the time being.

But since it was Phillip who had given him the reply, Cillian clicked his tongue and shook his head.

"I could see that."

One thing Cillian couldn’t understand was why Phillip continued sticking up for this brat who had no backing whatsoever. It was clearly his own free will, as it didn’t seem like he was being threatened into following him.

What about the Investigative Crew in the future?

But Phillip reassured Cillian by whispering something into his ear as he moved closer to him.

"Can you calm down for a second, Cillian? Right, in case you don’t know, I’m only being paid to do this. Don’t worry, after the deal, I’ll be alone again. So, don’t put too much pressure on him. He just lost his family, for goodness’ sake."

’Paid...’

Cillian’s mouth twitched.

If Fergus was even paying someone to force friendships, then it was nothing more than a façade he was keeping up. Cillian glanced toward Vin, who appeared disinterested in whatever topic they were talking about with each other, but he seemed to have the same reason as Phillip.

Vin was just there to finish his upgrade to Three and would probably stop sticking around with Fergus once this whole joke was over.

Then, Cillian clapped his hands.

"Okay, start preparing."

The three began to prepare as Cillian added:

"I’m sure you’ve done your research after our meeting a few days ago, so I don’t have to explain too much. What I wanted to say right now is to give you a few tips based on what I’ve experienced as a Ruiner."

While they prepared their Pieces and readied themselves in bed, Cillian continued.

"After you’ve all successfully incorporated your Pieces, it’s better to practice them first before moving on to another Piece right away. Again, this is based on my experience, and there isn’t really any research that proves whether it’s better or not. Personally, to really get the hang of your Piece, you must be patient until you’re sure you’ve completely mastered your power."

The three of them instantly halted. Fergus was already planning on taking three Pieces over the following two days. The same went for Phillip, who was planning on doing the same thing. As for Vin, he was already aware that taking another Piece right away wasn’t a good idea, as there were small instances where it showed signs of causing him to lose control.

He just felt like stopping like the two since he was the first one who had become fully prepared.

"Next, after practicing with them, you must know the limits of your Pieces. If you abuse them by using them too much, you’ll definitely find yourself losing control. Study the phases of losing control as well."

This problem wasn’t something Cillian had encountered so far because there was a system that warned him about the limitations of each ability.

That’s why Cillian absolutely loved his system. It never gave him any trouble like the usual systems he had seen in webnovels.

[A scent of Death within you says hi]

Aside from this bastard, of course.

Letting out a short cough, Cillian then revealed another piece of information that might help them in the future

"Don’t believe the misconceptions relating to ritual requirements. If you’re lucky enough, your Piece might store it. After practicing your first-ever Piece, you can still acquire a higher sequence of Pieces without worrying about the ritual requirements. They’ll simply remain there until you’ve fulfilled the ritual required by the Piece."

The ritual requirements aren’t something that stops a person from acquiring another Piece just so they can fulfill them first. They’ll simply remain there until the user fulfills the ritual required by that Piece.

That’s why most rituals are never accomplished due to how complicated they are to fulfill, especially when it comes to satisfying what the Piece wants.

’And the main character did it without a hitch, activating his All-Knowing Piece to its full potential. I remember that all of its information was displayed in text by The Fool’s writing.’

Putting aside the thoughts about Aster circulating in his mind, Cillian proceeded to give them one more tip.

"If you’re having trouble, especially you, Fergus and Phillip, I’ll give you this tip."

Cillian began telling them the words he had used, which came from Aster. Even Vin listened, since it wasn’t some common saying among Ruiners.

’It’s a self-taught saying. Did Cillian make this?’

Vin mused inwardly as Cillian continued informing them about it.

"You may begin the activation sequence."

Phillip and Vin began to carry their Pieces in front of them. Fergus also carried the other Pieces in his hands before the three of them started the activation sequence.

Chatter—!

Soon, Vin was able to see the Lights and the View of the Piece but appeared unbothered. The same went for Phillip and Fergus as they watched it all happen in silence.

’I know that people can see it, but it’s my first time seeing it from this perspective. I really love the fantasy world.’

Soon, the same View devoured the Lights, and the Runic Language became prominent as it began appearing on each of their respective Pieces.

’The Lights being devoured by the View... What does that mean? Every Piece seems to have some sort of relation to it. Ah screw it, it’s no time to analyze things.’

Cillian still had to worry about them entering a vegetative state, especially the first-timers. Especially for Fergus since he also had to pay him a hefty amount after this.

’Don’t you dare leave this world yet after not paying paid me.’

Soon, the three of them lay down and began incorporating their Pieces.

Even though it was risky, why did Cillian still push Phillip to become a Ruiner instead of declining his request and giving him some lame excuse?

It’s because of the incoming Cataclysm from the Middle Stages of the Plague.

It seemed he wasn’t the only one thinking about what Cillian was trying to do, as Mouthful Eye started talking from his pocket once he knew the three were focused on themselves.

"You care about that, Phillip and Vin."

Cillian smiled.

"Of course. I can’t just carry them around every time. They need to be able to protect themselves. Though, it’s only Phillip I’m worried about right now."

"Sure, sure."

Mouthful Eye stopped speaking and let Cillian focus as he started making sure that their process of becoming Ruiners went as smoothly as possible.
