Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 1290 - 1290: Investigating the Castle

The dark green mist slowly dispersed, leaving a thin layer of green across both rooms.

Within two to three seconds, strands of black smoke emerged from the green, and everything tainted by this green was corroded, rapidly dissolving at a speed visible to the naked eye.

The ground crumbled, and Yang Yu and his companions, along with the Slime, fell to the next level.

Thanks to the Slime's protection, Yang Yu and the others were unharmed, not affected by the toxin's corrosion.

"It exploded just like a bomb..."

Lingshan still felt a lingering fear; if it weren't for the Slime's toxin immunity, they might have dissolved like the two rooms overhead.

"Is everyone okay?"

Yang Yu glanced over everyone. Aside from the Slime, which lost a bit of blood due to the explosion, everyone else was fine.

"Such an explosion is just the beginning.

The castle of the [Count Blood] is vast, akin to a maze for us who are unfamiliar with it.

Stay together as much as possible and don't get separated."

Yang Yu looked at Lotcar, initially wanting to rely on his exceptional hearing for reconnaissance, but he immediately recalled that Lotcar hadn't detected the Synthetic Beasts earlier.

Perhaps the Slime's woven coat might be blocking out some of the smaller sounds.

Lotcar's detection was unreliable. They needed more stable reconnaissance methods.

Yang Yu immediately turned his attention to Hualan,

"Hualan, can you control the spirits to scout this castle?"

With one eye closed, manipulating the Spiritual Shark to battle the giant whale, Hualan was hesitant:

"Black Magic is extremely destructive to spiritual bodies, so I don't know if I can carry out a wide-scale reconnaissance."

"Just do what you can."

Encouraged by Yang Yu, Hualan nodded, letting the Spiritual Shark attack the brown whale instinctively, then released countless little fish from her body to act as vanguards, sending them through the walls to scout everywhere.

A map gradually formed in Hualan's mind.

Now, she could barely guide Yang Yu and the others.

After a brief discussion with her companions on moving forward, Yang Yu approached the Slime that had fallen with them.

The gathered Slime wriggled their bodies, removing the green toxins attached to them, then separated back into individual Slimes.

Yang Yu took out a small cart, and under Helot's command, the Slimes lined up in two rows and smoothly jumped onto the cart.

The Slimes moved very slowly, but with the cart, they could move quickly all the way.

According to Hualan, Synthetic Beasts like the ones they just faced were ubiquitous in the corridors and rooms, and there was no way Yang Yu and the others could avoid them.

Yang Yu and his team didn't know exactly where the [Count Blood] was. They could only walk while expanding Hualan's reconnaissance area, searching for the [Count Blood]'s location.

Upon opening the door and stepping into the corridor, Synthetic Beasts swung their ears, dashing towards Yang Yu and his team.

The attacking Synthetic Beasts were mostly expendable, capable of being mass-produced.

Though their levels weren't high, the toxins they carried were extremely deadly.

For the first time entering this castle, running around wildly made it hard not to fall into their trap.

For Yang Yu and his team, these attacking guard dogs only came to meet their doom.

Yet, they had to be cautious of the corrosive toxins they carried.

The toxins could corrode walls and floors.

Many games feature settings where a broken path requires a long detour, sometimes even ending the game if no detour is possible.

Yang Yu didn't want to take such a risk. He organized the team, luring those exploding Synthetic Beasts into a room to completely eliminate them.

However, not all monsters released toxins by exploding.

The detection range of the Spiritual Little Fish continued to expand, sensing some incredibly powerful presences.

The Spiritual Little Fish dared not approach, instinctively knowing that coming too close would turn them to dust.

Several key paths were held by those entities, rendering passage impossible without defeating them.

Additionally, those moving downward hit walls.

Beneath this castle was a massive Array, which regular spiritual bodies couldn't penetrate.

So far, Hualan hadn't found any trace of the [Count Blood], and considering [Count Blood]'s fear of sunlight, it was unlikely he would head upwards and more likely that he hid in the castle's basement, watching the active monsters in the castle take them down.

In the central hall, Hualan sensed five extraordinarily strong presences, seemingly waiting for their arrival.

Hualan immediately informed Yang Yu of the entire situation. After pondering for a moment, Yang Yu had Lang Yi take over his task of pulling the Slime, then borrowed a little fish from Hualan, setting off alone along the ceiling to see what the blocking Synthetic Beast looked like.

Guided by the Spiritual Little Fish, Yang Yu quickly moved along the ceiling.

Hualan's voice echoed in his ear:

"It's right ahead of you, be careful.

Because they're wrapped in layers of Black Magic, I can't discern what type of enemy it is or just how powerful it might be.

If you face danger, contact us immediately. We'll come help you."

"If you can dispatch it swiftly, proceed downward. If not, change your route."

After a brief exchange, Yang Yu focused intently to guard against the sudden appearance of castle guardian monsters that might catch him off guard.

As he ran, Yang Yu felt a sticky sensation beneath his feet.

Though nothing seemed to be on the ground, Yang Yu felt as though his feet were mired, difficult to extricate.

Suddenly, Helot wrapped around Yang Yu shuddered, as if a cold wind blew from the depth of the passage.

The ground became more sticky, and Yang Yu saw a spider web icon appear on his Status Bar, greatly reducing his speed.

Yang Yu came to a complete stop, no longer advancing.

Deep purple threads emerged from beneath his feet, spreading across the entire passage, a chilling and eerie laughter continuously echoing.

A spider over two meters tall, with purple and white patterns, crawled out from the corridor of You City,

"Let me see which little cutie dares to trespass my master's castle. Oh ho ho, it turns out to be such a little guy, with such boldness.

Since you've fallen into my web, don't expect to leave here alive."

Though the spider had a somewhat flashy appearance, it spoke in the voice of a gruff old man.

Before Yang Yu could think further, the spider's eight eyes lit up with a deep purple glow in the dim corridor, as if locking onto him.

A flood of purple, muddy toxins spewed from the spider's mouth toward Yang Yu. Without dodging, he took a deep breath, braving the impending purple sludge, and in a blink arrived before the spider's eyes.

With a flick of his sharp longsword, an orange glow flashed as Yang Yu's sword sliced through six of the spider's eyes, drawing out a trail of green blood.
