Demon Lord: Erotic Adventure in Another World
Chapter 903: The Reason Asmodeus Fights!Several days passed before the palace finally returned to something resembling normality.
At least, that was what Asmodeus wanted to believe.
He’d spent his entire divine core trying to meet Serena’s desires and completely drain her of jealousy and doubts, so now it was time to seriously consider the future battle. With the Empire now sure that Asmodeus had dragons.
To unseal himself and remove his curse, the Emperor would strike.
’Lest I forget the former Arbiter locked away in my tower... it is only a matter of time before her beloved Creator takes action.’
Though unable to freely manipulate the world due to the laws of causality within the universe, as the existence who created the planet, or at least usurped it. The creator could inflict massive damage should he want to take a risk.
Thus, Asmodeus remained on high alert.
***
The afternoon sun danced like a beautiful maiden above Lumeria when he crossed the gardens separating the main palace from the smaller residence built for his children.
There were no ministers following behind him, no armour wrapped around his body and, for once, not even a particle of aura flowing from his body.
’How are the little ones doing... It’s taken me so long to return.’
He came alone, but the thought immediately soured his mood.
He’d promised himself this wouldn’t keep happening, yet there was always another battle, another crisis or another woman pulling him somewhere. All the promises to his cute little girls and valiant sons...
’I owe them the world.’
Even the past few days had disappeared beneath reports surrounding Leviathan, the missing Imperial fleet and the ridiculous spectacle created when several of his children’s grandmothers somehow managed to turn what should’ve been a family visit into something resembling a battlefield.
Asmodeus still didn’t understand how it happened.
More importantly, neither did the children.
The moment he passed through the garden gate, he spotted three tiny faces peeking over the edge of a hedge.
"..."
Before he could call out, the little munchkins vanished.
"...I saw you!"
There was a little rustle of leaves before small voices bickered, but they refused to come out and greet him, which hurt Asmodeus. He could feel his chest become heavier, wondering if he might’ve been too late...
Until a cute little pair of violet horns slowly emerged.
Then Nyxielle’s eyes appeared beside his brooding face, and everything shattered; nothing mattered when he saw his little princess. No, it wasn’t just because Nyxielle was his favourite... it could have been any of his children, and he’d feel this same surge of calm, of peace!
"Papa?"
"Who else?"
The little girl immediately flew over the hedge.
"Papa!"
Asmodeus barely opened his arms before Nyxielle crashed into his chest, violet hair fluttering while her little wings beat frantically behind her.
"Oof!"
He caught her beneath the arms and lifted her above his head.
"You’re getting heavier."
"?!?!" The little fairy opened her mouth wide, as if in complete shock. "Dad! You can’t tell a girl that... what, are you stupid?!"
"...."
Her words hurt.
Asmodeus couldn’t help but grimace as she glanced up at him with honest, glowing eyes filled with nothing but her pure nature.
"S-Sorry, Dad was wrong... okay? Please forgive your stupid father..."
Nyxielle’s cheeks puffed out, yet she wrapped both arms around his head when he lowered her onto his shoulders.
Another small figure emerged from behind the hedge.
Tsukihana approached considerably more slowly, trying to carry herself with the dignity she’d probably learned from watching her mothers.
Asmodeus crouched.
"You’re not going to say hello?"
’It’s odd for Tsuki to spend time with her siblings. She normally spends time with Aurelia and Ryusei but keeps her distance from the others...’
Tsukihana stopped several steps away.
"I knew you were coming."
"Oh?"
"Mama said that you’ve been bad and that she’s going to... xxxx you and then xxxxx you!"
"And that means you don’t need to hug me?"
It seemed that Asmodeus’s subconscious censored the foul words, leaving his lovely fox daughter’s mouth as he hugged her tightly against his chest beside Nyxielle.
He couldn’t understand in the past, but once he had daughters, many of the old sayings and strange actions of fathers in his previous world made sense.
’A daughter is like a precious stone.... while a son is a prized weapon or ale.’
Her expression immediately crumbled.
She ran the remaining distance and threw herself against him.
Asmodeus laughed, catching her with one arm while Nyxielle remained firmly attached to his shoulders.
’How did I ever convince myself that staying away was helping them grow?’
He understood his own reasoning.
His children needed lives that didn’t revolve entirely around their father, especially when that father was slowly becoming something the rest of the world treated like a god.
That didn’t mean he had to become a stranger.
"Daddy!"
Tsukihana’s voice became unusually serious and focused.
"Daddy, everyone else is inside."
"Everyone?"
"Mhm."
Her little fox ears twitched as she glanced towards the enormous building hidden beyond several rows of flowering trees.
"They said you might come today, but Ardyn didn’t believe them."
"Oh?"
Asmodeus’s brow lifted.
"He said Father always has something important to do."
Those words struck considerably harder than Nyxielle calling him stupid. No. Maybe they even hurt more than Leviathan’s sharp claws that tore him limb from limb.
’I’m really a stupid father.... my love for these little guys, it’s probably why I haven’t become a blood-thirsty demon or a tyrant emperor...’
Tsukihana probably didn’t understand what she’d just said, because she merely tightened her little arms around his neck and rested her cheek against his shoulder.
’Fuck...’
He’d really done it.
Without noticing, somewhere along the way, he’d become the kind of father whose children treated his arrival like an uncertain rumour.
Asmodeus closed his eyes.
"Then we’d better prove your brother wrong."
Though his father couldn’t help being distant due to his curse, knowing what he did now didn’t help Asmodeus back when he was a mere child. He used to think that his dad hated him and his mother, and that because he looked strange compared to the other asian students, he was shunned by his father’s family too.
These were things that couldn’t be taught or told... a child would learn and live with these things over their long lives and come to realise who their parents were and what their parents stood for.
Nyxielle immediately raised both hands above his head.
"Charge!"
"Don’t kick me."
"I’m not!"
"You are literally kicking my chest."
"That’s charging!"
Tsukihana giggled beside him.
The sound quickly washed away the bitterness lingering inside Asmodeus as he carried both girls along the winding garden path.
Their residence came into view shortly afterwards.
Calling it a residence felt increasingly ridiculous.
The building had grown alongside the family, transformed over the years from a large secondary manor into something resembling a smaller royal palace. Pale stone walls surrounded several connected wings, each designed around the vastly different races and needs of his children.
Wide balconies allowed those with wings to launch directly into the gardens, while enchantments controlled the temperature and mana density throughout different sections.
Beyond one courtyard stood the animal sanctuary.
Asmodeus could already hear barking.
’Is that...?’
He remembered the pregnant fox monster that’d just given birth when he visited the last time, before granting it a huge amount of his blood to heal the babies who wouldn’t have survived the litter or winter.
Maybe it was because he hesitated, but Nyxielle could read the room even at her young age as she took his hand and giggled to her older sister, Yukihana, with a completely obvious wink and smirk.
"Oh no..."
Nyxielle started laughing.
"Daddy’s scared!"
"I’m not scared."
The first demon hound appeared around the corner; though cute, it was soon followed by another five, all looking at him with a strange glint in their eyes.
Not that he could know they saw him as their father...
Asmodeus stopped.
"...I’m cautious."
The enormous beasts stared at him for half a second before recognition struck.
Their tails began wagging.
"Wait."
They charged.
"Wait!"
Tsukihana squealed happily as Asmodeus turned sideways, shielding both girls while several massive hounds crashed into him one after another.
"Oi!"
One began licking his arm, while another shoved its head against his ribs.
"You’re supposed to be trained!"
Nyxielle laughed so loudly she nearly fell from his shoulders.
"Again! Again!"
"Absolutely not."
A voice came from the entrance.
"You’ve gotten weak, Father."
The voice took Asmoeus by surprise, because his sons, apart from Ryusei, tended to avoid him or wait until he offered a reward for challenging his thoughts and ways.
"There you are."
Ardyn’s expression remained firm.
Yet Asmodeus showed a father’s smile; there was a sense of pride that only the keen-eyed might realise: this man idolised and adored his children.
NO matter which one.
Asmodeus lowered Tsukihana before lifting Nyxielle from his shoulders.
Then he walked towards his son.
Ardyn remained standing there, stubbornly refusing to move.
’He’s grown.’
Not merely physically.
There was something different in the way he carried himself now, a boy slowly becoming conscious of the expectations attached to his blood and name.
Asmodeus stopped before anything could happen, but it wasn’t like he didn’t know of the annoying old men and women who weren’t confused about his vision or powers.
"Come here, son, let me check your posture and stance."
Asmodeus stopped before him.
"Are you going to make your old man ask for a hug?"
Ardyn looked away.
"I’m too old."
"You’re never too old."
"Father..."
Asmodeus grabbed him anyway.
"W-Wait!"
He pulled his son firmly against his chest.
For several seconds, Ardyn struggled purely because his pride demanded it.
Then his hands quietly gripped Asmodeus’s back.
"...You really took too long."
It was a strange feeling.
Asmodeus glanced at the cute child, pretending to be strong while his face became bright red and his eyes filled with tears. Yes. This was just another of his lovely children; no matter how mature they became, these cute things would always be just children to him.
They were without a doubt his most treasured existences.
A faint movement appeared behind Ardyn.
Several more children had gathered inside the entrance.
Seris stood near the doorway, her beautiful red hair immediately catching his attention, while Selphira lingered beside her, holding one of the sanctuary cats against her chest.
Behind them, several younger children peeked curiously around the pillars.
And further inside...
"Dad!" / "Papa!" / "Father?!" / "Old man!"
Almost a dozen children peeked from the doorway, all of his children gathered in one place...
All to meet him.
Here he wasn’t some emperor or magical being.
Asmodeus was just dad!
"Ah... you guys... come here!" He shouted with his arms open wide, still carrying Ardyn and Nyxielle.
He came to terms with his love for Serena and her being his home and reason for remaining on the right path.
Then he believed that the reason he fought...
Was all for their smiles!
