Chapter 49: IDIOT!

"Of course, young master." Natalie nodded.

Osborne then returned to the carriage before setting Clawdeth aside.

He looked out the window, letting out a sigh.

’Who would have thought things would end this way?’ he thought.

While he did fail to acquire an instructor, gaining an aide on par with Silvester was something he never thought possible.

---

Osborne then returned to the estate with Silvester, Natalie, and Meren.

The news of his return naturally reached Rebecca, who was annoyed he managed to bring back someone.

But when she learned the man wasn’t someone noteworthy, she grew relieved. Moreover, she felt like this was a good thing.

’In the end, that stupidity of his let him down. Now big sister will be disappointed in that fool, and when he fails to meet her expectations, she’ll retract her offer to invest in him.’

Knock~ Knock~

"Come in," Rebecca said when she heard a knock on her door.

The doors parted before a maid stepped inside.

"Good day, young miss Rebecca."

"Yes, what is it..." Rebecca replied in an impatient tone.

"I’m afraid your presence is urgently needed in the main hall at once... as per her ladyship’s orders." The maid said with her head lowered, yet her body couldn’t help but tremble with each word.

’What’s going on? Why would she want to meet me now, and in there of all places?’ She thought to herself with furrowed brows.

If the maid had said her older sister had wanted to meet her in her study or chambers, she wouldn’t feel so uneasy, but the matter stood that she was calling her out to the main hall.

’Wait... Where is she?’ Rebecca suddenly recalled that Clawdeth was nowhere to be found. ’She should have returned to relay to me how the mission went.’

’Don’t tell me, did that woman reveal my plans to her?’ Rebecca gritted her teeth just thinking about it.

"Fine, lead the way." Nevertheless, she still complied and followed the maid.

On arriving at the main hall, Rebecca’s face deepened, because it looked like her worst thoughts had come through.

Her three sisters were all present within the hall, along with several other people. One of them being the person she despised the most.

Osborne stared at her quietly, his expression not faltering in the least even as she glared at him.

Ruby had a troubled look on her face, while Rachael looked worried for her immediate older sister.

"I’ve come as you’ve asked, sister... Might I know why you’ve summoned me here?"

"Keep quiet..." Roseline uttered but one word, yet Rebecca felt an invisible pressure fall down onto her, bringing her to her knees.

"Sister!!!" Rachael cried out.

’So that’s what it was.’ Osborne saw clearly just now that it wasn’t some form of invisible pressure, but a bit of Roseline’s aura pressing down on her.

What left a bad taste in his mouth was the fact that this much aura couldn’t even be called a fraction of what she possessed. Even while looking at her now, he failed to see the depth of her strength, as if he was not looking at a person, but a seemingly bottomless well.

"I’ll ask you once, and for your sake, you better answer." Roseline gazed down at her sister with a cold light in her eyes.

"Bring her in," Roseline said.

Rebecca began wondering what she meant by that. It wasn’t until two knights dragged Clawdeth into the hall that she realised what was happening.

Her worst fears actually came true. This woman was indeed caught during the mission she tasked her with.

Clawdeth looked haggard, as if she had endured a lot up till now.

"Now answer me..."

"Rebecca... Did you tell this woman to interfere with the orders I gave this morning?" Roseline said.

The entire hall turned silent, all eyes now on Rebecca, who looked frustrated being brought out in the spotlight like this.

"Of course not, sister. Why would I do such a thing?" Rebecca said with a nervous look on her face.

"I’m sure this is all a misunderstanding caused by that man."

"While I do detest him, it hasn’t gotten to the point where I would knowingly go against your orders, sister. As the current head of the household, I have no intentions of going against your will."

’She’s lying even now...’ Osborne didn’t seem that surprised. This woman was just bred that way, it seemed.

Even when caught, she would do anything she could to avoid persecution.

"If anything, she probably acted out on her own. The feud between them isn’t unknown, sister. Moreover, she also acted out several weeks ago when that man beside you tried to assault me."

"While she did intend to save me from harm’s way, her methods were indeed harsh at the time. She struck a core member of the house more than she should have. While I do find him unappealing, it’s a fact no one can deny."

While Rebecca was babbling on and on trying to save her own neck, Osborne quietly watched Roseline instead.

’Typical... as always, she’s still hesitant to do anything to her own blood,’ Osborne said to himself.

For someone who had a knack for knowing when one lied, it sure was strange she still hadn’t stopped this half-assed attempt of Rebecca’s.

’Well, I didn’t expect her to be hurt by something like this. This isn’t the 21st century. While we did catch her, there isn’t exactly any evidence to refute her claims,’ Osborne added.

"Is what she said true? Did you truly act out on your own?" After her sister was done yapping, Roseline shifted her focus to Clawdeth.

"Yes, my lady... What young miss Rebecca said is in fact the truth. I’m afraid I acted out of line due to my own impulses..."

"You’re aware of the punishment for going against my orders, correct?"

"Yes, my lady... As the head of the house, your word is law. Any who dares to refute them shall either be banished or dealt the death penalty."

"As a vassal of the house, I have no choice but to accept the death penalty for my actions," Clawdeth said with her head lowered.
