Morning light was already filtering through the curtains when Strax finished putting on his shirt.

He calmly fastened the last buttons, picked up the coat he had left over a chair, and glanced over his shoulder toward the bed.

Lithara and Albedo were completely out beneath the sheets, both sleeping deeply after the previous night.

Lithara occupied most of one side, her red hair spread across the pillow and a satisfied expression on her face that rarely appeared when she was awake.

Albedo remained closer to the center, hugging one of the pillows with her long black hair disheveled and her horns partially hidden among it.

Neither of them looked like they had enough energy to wake up that early.

Strax watched the scene for a few seconds and let out a quiet laugh as he finished adjusting his clothes.

The two had spent weeks acting as though they were terribly dangerous demonesses, far too proud to admit nervousness and absolutely certain they would maintain all their dignity once they finally got what they had been asking for.

The result was now sleeping in front of him completely exhausted.

"Two arrogant as fuck demonesses," he murmured with a smile. "In the end, they got way too cute after sex."

Lithara mumbled something incomprehensible in her sleep and turned over, pulling part of the sheet with her.

Albedo did not react at all.

Strax carefully closed the bedroom door and walked down the corridor toward the kitchen.

The mansion was already awake, although that part of it remained relatively quiet.

A few maids crossed the halls carrying clean clothes, while the smell of freshly baked bread and coffee drifted up from below.

After spending an entire night away from any administrative concern, he was hungry enough to finally consider the possibility of enjoying a whole morning without some ancient threat trying to awaken.

That hope lasted until he entered the kitchen.

Scathach was sitting at the table.

She held a cup of coffee in one hand while resting her face against the other.

She wore light clothes, her hair partially tied back, and an oddly serious expression for someone simply drinking coffee.

Strax pulled out a chair across from her, grabbed a pitcher of juice, and started filling a glass.

Scathach watched every movement.

"You made a lot of noise."

Strax raised his eyes.

She was pouting slightly.

He held back a laugh.

"They’re the noisy ones."

"Naturally. Poor, innocent Strax did nothing."

"Exactly."

Scathach drank some coffee while continuing to stare at him.

There was something childishly jealous in the way she narrowed her eyes, which was even stranger considering the woman sitting in front of him.

Strax pretended not to notice and began putting food on his plate, taking bread, meat, and a few fruits before sitting down again.

"Are you jealous?" he asked.

"No."

"You are."

"I’m not."

"That pout says otherwise."

Scathach immediately corrected her expression.

"You’re imagining things."

Strax laughed, and she responded by throwing a small piece of bread at him.

He caught it in midair and simply put it in his mouth, which only made Scathach look even more annoyed.

The conversation continued for a few minutes, alternating between comments about the draconic training they still needed to begin and questions about the new gauntlet Strax had brought back from Tartarus.

He explained just enough for Scathach to understand that Hades was dead and that the former Helm of Darkness had now been transformed into a much more useful weapon.

That was when the kitchen door opened.

Rogue entered first.

Samira came right behind her.

Both wore expressions serious enough to make Strax abandon any expectation of a peaceful morning.

Rogue carried a small folder under one arm, while Samira was still wearing training clothes, probably having come directly from the arena after another session with Kryssia.

Samira noticed Strax first.

"Do you have a little time?"

Strax chewed the last piece of bread before answering.

"I do. Why?"

Samira looked at Rogue.

Rogue sighed and placed the folder on the table.

"We have a few problems we don’t exactly know how to solve. It might sound a little silly when I put it this way, but a Magic Tower wants to establish itself inside our kingdom."

Strax stopped with the glass near his mouth.

"A Magic Tower?"

Samira nodded and pulled out a chair, sitting beside Rogue.

"Apparently, Asgard is growing too fast. A lot of people are coming here to live, not just adventurers or merchants. Mages, alchemists, researchers, minor nobles, entire families, and even some organizations are requesting permission to open permanent headquarters."

Rogue opened the folder and showed him several documents.

"So far, we’ve handled the smaller guilds without much trouble. We register them, collect fees, impose Asgard’s laws, and that’s it. But a Magic Tower doesn’t exactly function like a normal guild. They want their own territory, research facilities, academic autonomy, and access to certain magical resources."

Strax frowned.

"Monica didn’t handle this?"

The two women exchanged looks.

It was too quick.

Strax noticed immediately.

"Well..." Rogue began.

Samira finished:

"Monica told us to talk to you."

Strax blinked.

Silence.

He slowly placed the glass on the table.

"Monica told you to bring a problem directly to me?"

"Yes."

"Monica?"

"Exactly."

Strax stared at the two as though they had just informed him that city hall was being run by a newborn dragon.

Monica never handed a decision to him without first preparing contracts, options, risk analyses, and probably three different solutions.

If she was deliberately avoiding making the decision, then there was something strange about the situation.

Rogue started smiling.

So did Samira.

The two spoke almost at the same time:

"She said you’d understand when you saw the person in charge of the Magic Tower."

Strax narrowed his eyes.

"That sounds like a trap."

Scathach took another sip of coffee.

"It probably is."

...

Some time later, Strax stood in front of the person who perfectly explained why Monica had decided not to handle the negotiation alone.

The meeting took place in one of the smaller rooms at city hall, prepared to receive representatives of external organizations without using the main chamber.

Strax stood near the window when the door opened and a woman entered accompanied by two mages who clearly held positions beneath hers.

Neither of them held Strax’s attention for more than a second.

The woman in the center, however, was different.

Surreally beautiful was probably the simplest description.

Her hair was a vivid orange, close to the color of fire beneath a sunset, falling in long waves down her back.

A large witch hat rested at a slight angle over her head, decorated with small golden symbols and several glowing stones that carried enchantments of their own.

Her clothing followed the same style as a traditional sorceress, but had clearly been adapted by someone with absolutely no interest in looking conservative.

The dark dress fit closely to her body before opening into layers below the waist, while parts of the fabric were elegantly cut to expose her legs, shoulders, and more of her cleavage than one would normally expect from an academic.

Even so, her beauty was not the reason Strax was truly paying attention.

It was the staff.

The woman carried a long staff made from a type of wood he did not recognize, curved at the top around a massive translucent stone.

The crystal looked as though it contained a small mana storm inside it.

Magical energy escaped from the structure in extremely subtle waves, only to be immediately drawn back in as though the weapon itself were breathing.

Strax narrowed his eyes slightly.

That was not a simple magical amplifier.

The staff contained enough energy to make even him question what kind of witch was standing before him.

The woman stopped a few meters away.

Her two companions remained behind her.

She inclined her head slightly, showing courtesy without the slightest hint of submission.

"It is an honor to finally meet you in person."

Strax crossed his arms.

"Monica apparently decided I needed to meet you."

A small smile appeared on her lips.

"Lady Monica was quite direct during our first meeting."

"I can imagine."

"She said that any decision regarding the permanent establishment of my organization should be made by the sovereign of Asgard."

Strax immediately thought that this had been Monica’s polite way of saying, this problem is yours.

The woman rested the staff against the floor.

The mana in the room changed.

Not aggressively.

It was simply the natural reaction of an absurd amount of energy stabilizing in one place.

The two mages behind her kept their eyes lowered, making it very clear they were accustomed to that presence.

She placed one hand over her chest.

"I am Selene Feywin."

Strax continued watching her.

"One of the Ten Great Witches of this world."

That explained quite a lot.

The Ten Great Witches were not merely powerful magic users.

The title had existed long before Asgard’s expansion and was granted only to sorceresses who had reached absurd levels within a particular field.

Some controlled entire schools of magic, others possessed territories of their own, and certain witches were treated as individual military forces by entire kingdoms.

Selene continued calmly:

"We would like to create a Magic Tower here in Asgard."

Strax looked at her.

Then at the staff.

Then back at Selene.

"We?"

"Me and approximately six hundred mages."

Strax remained silent for several seconds.

Now he understood Monica.

"Six hundred."

"Initially."

"Initially?"

"There is a waiting list."

Strax brought one hand to his face and slowly exhaled through his nose.

Asgard had just finished dealing with a small war, was facing food shortages, was preparing an army to invade Tartarus, and now one of the greatest witches in the world had appeared wanting to bring hundreds of mages inside its walls.

Selene watched his reaction with a faint smile.

"Is that a problem?"

Strax lowered his hand and looked again at the absurdly powerful woman standing before him.

"That depends."

"On what?"

Strax pointed toward a chair.

"On how much you’re willing to explain before I figure out why six hundred mages decided Asgard suddenly became the best place in the world to build a tower."

Selene smiled a little more and took her seat across from him.

"Then I believe we are going to have a very interesting conversation."
