Under the hot desert sun, Yu Zhiye unhooked another sandfish from his fishing rod and smiled. “A few more points to go.”
If everything goes well, a quarter of an hour was all it’ll take!
After adding the fish to the stack in his inventory, Yu Zhiye habitually checked the mountainside to look out for invaders.
At first glance, there’s nobody, but he suddenly noticed a trail of footprints heading the way of their base…
Such tracks should’ve been a normal sight by now.
Yet what alerted Yu Zhiye was the fact that there were new footprints mysteriously appearing in the sand like there was an invisible existence trekking over!
What’s this? A ghost in broad daylight? Impossible. So supernatural ability? Mutant power? Invisibility cloak or potion? Devil fruit? Magic?
Well… whatever the case, somebody clearly hasn’t gotten the memo on realistic sand physics.
Honestly, if this infiltrator bothered to detour around, he might miss the sneaky bugger, but to take a route so close... isn’t that just saying hello to his face?
Though Yu Zhiye didn’t particularly like engaging in combat, he certainly wasn’t going to turn a blind eye to this dangerous variable.
If he lets this invisible natural assassin sneak into the store, it will be a major headache to deal with!
Best course of action: while he can still pinpoint the enemy, nip the danger in the bud!
Once the decision was made, Yu Zhiye didn’t immediately jump into action.
Instead, he pretended like he noticed nothing, casually collected all but one of his rods, and secretly scooted into a favorable position: closer to the wall for safety’s sake.
“Not catching much at this spot. Let’s try in that direction…”
He turned sideways to the quicksand’s left shore where the footprints appeared.
Range is on his side! First move advantage is his! His fishing line whipped out for the legs!
And perhaps the invisible intruder didn’t expect to be discovered because the opposing side actually didn’t dodge! By the time the invisible intruder reacted, an invisible leg got hooked!
Yu Zhie gave his rod a hard yank and could already imagine the invisible prey doing splits!
Too bad it was impossible to see how things turned out. All Yu Zhiye could see were the tracks dragged out in the quicksand like somebody was frantically trying to crawl out…
Obviously, he won’t give the enemy a chance!
He switched out his fishing rod for another and cast out his line again! Hooked, yank, and sinker! Once in, ya ain’t getting out!
“Hehe! Welcome! Hope you enjoy your stay at Quicksand Hotel!”
But perhaps he celebrated too soon.
Suddenly, a sand-caked murloc burst out from the flowing quicksand, grabbed the invisible package, and swam against the current to get closer!
“Fisherboy, your cheap tricks are useless! You better effing surrender now and we’ll let you off easy!”
Watching the fish monster menacingly close in with a shark-like grin, Yu Zhiye silently switched out his fishing rod for the enchanted iron sword.
That immediately made the fishman turn tail and swim back the other way!
What a joke! If alone, Takumi Ryu believed he could still put up a fight, but lugging this package on his back?
It’ll be a miracle if they can get out alive! Especially since there’s still this quicksand constantly trying to drag them under!
Screw getting closer! Get back to shore then they’ll talk!
“Heh. You really think you can come and leave whenever you want?”
Yu Zhiye switched out the iron sword for his trusty fishing rod and one swing sent the hook flying at the fleeing murloc! “Get over here!”
The duo was so close to shore, but a single hook could reset all their efforts!
That is… if it lands.
“Too slow.” Takumi Ryu sneered and swerved out of the way.
However, to everybody’s surprise, the hook that was supposed to miss actually chased after him like a shark smelling blood and hooked onto him like a magnet!
“Naniiii?!!!”
Takumi Ryu instinctively wanted to brush off the hook, but he suddenly realized… there’s a mysterious force trapping him in place! Even his body went stiff like a log!
Then an irresistible force yanked him back in the other direction!
He struggled hard until his eyes bulged, but was still unable to resist the power reeling him in!
To make matters worse, this mysterious force didn’t go away after one pull like it was supposed to...
That magical power kept binding him and turned him into a fish on a chopping board!
Literally. Because something even more magical happened...
As the line reeled in, the human-sized fishman on the hook actually shrunk down in size and magically turned into an eerily creepy monster fish!
Staring at the ugly hand-sized sardine dangled on his fishing rod, even Yu Zhiye was utterly shocked!
What in the world just happened? A human player turned into a fish?!
This never happened when he used his fishing rod on other players! What went wrong here?!
Though utterly baffled, Yu Zhiye knew this wasn’t the time or place to figure things out. He tossed the strange fish in his inventory and got ready to deal with the other intruder.
A single glance judged that the invisible enemy was too deep in. No chance of getting out. That’s for sure.
Despite this obvious fact, Yu Zhiye noticed the sand tracks that got increasingly closer, like the invisible existence was wading over using all his might!
This… shouldn’t this guy flee the other way? What’s he doing? Sending himself to die under his sword?
Obviously, something’s up, and when there’s something fishy, best to play safe!
Yu Zhiye became wary inside and quickly backed up to hide behind his sandstone wall.
Perhaps knowing the gig was up, an invisible highschooler flickered back into existence like a ghost in the shell.
Though his body was doomed to be swallowed by the quicksand, his face still cracked a very creepy smile.
What truly sent a chill up Yu Zhiye’s spine though was... the man’s abnormally inflating body!
“Shi—” KABOOM!!!
