Yu Zhiye rolled his eyes, but didn’t retort. He simply tore off some fish meat and passed it over to the uncle next door. “Jack, give it a try.”
“Aight, I won’t be polite then.”
Jack popped the grilled meat into his mouth and chewed on it. “Hmm… tastes just like smoked fish meat. Not bad to have meat like this here…”
Hearing only food critique and seeing no other reaction, Yu Zhiye felt something was off. “Anything else?”
“Yeah?” Jack was stunned. “Is there supposed to be something?”
Yu Zhiye frowned, but quickly locked onto a possibility. A fresh cooked fish appeared in hand. “Here, Jack, try a bite of this one.”
“Yeah?” Jack didn’t ask why and simply accepted the treat, only to be stunned seconds later.
“Sheesh! An achievement that unlocks a hidden stat? Well, I’ll be damned.”
Yu Zhiye’s heart settled down. As expected, it worked.
These achievements most likely had some effective-on-the-first-bite-only rule like devil fruits.
Good thing he prepared extra overnight and all through noon just in case!
“Eih! This miss got fourth place! 0.7 points! Ehe~”
“Fifth place here, 0.6 sanity attributes…” Jack finally understood the weight of this surprise gift. “Steve, you really went and done it this time.”
“Hey, we’re a team. Just like how you thought of me, since there’s good stuff, how can I leave you two out?”
“Yeah? Even if ya say that, we really can’t take this for nuthing, Steve…”
Everybody knew how important stat points are in any game, even more so a hidden stat like sanity in a horror world.
Jack was a straightforward guy and he didn’t beat around the bush. He simply took out his chest and fished out what he believed to be the most valuable items.
“Emeralds, gold ingots, iron ingots… Aight, Steve, we can only afford this much for now...”
Miss Highschooler read the mood and reluctantly took out her most prized possession. “Eih… if big brother wants, you can have… little Ling’er’s favorite golden apple.”
Yu Zhiye smiled at their sincerity. Like he thought, good deeds don’t go unrewarded.
But just like how they didn’t rip him off for the fishing rod recipe, he chose not to become a devil-tier profiteer and symbolically took a few gold ingots that he so happened to need.

Jack gave him a firm handshake and everybody can’t be more happy.
“Eih! Big brother what will you do with the fishu?”
Noticing the little cat’s glowing eyes, Yu Zhiye simply handed the fish over. “Dinner.”
“Yay Big brother is the best ehehe~”
Jack didn’t reject his share either. Everybody headed inside together, blessed with smiles.
“Toilet run again, Steve?”
“You know it.”
“Eih! Hurry up big brother~ before the fishu gets cold la!”
“Alright, alright...”
Yu Zhiye split from the party and went for a base run.
Same routine like always, but today’s good deed earned him the last requisite for an upgrade.
