Dusk. Near the base.

The little missy skipping back spotted the fisherman lounging there with three fishing rods lined up like a barricade and waved, “Eih! Big brother, we’re back ehehe”

Yu Zhiye took the straw hat off his face and spotted the two miners caked in a second skin of soot.

Though they looked like they’d been swallowed by the earth and spat back out, their joyful faces were unmistakable. “Hey, looks like you two had a great harvest.”

“Sheesh, you can say that again.” Jack grinned and patted the lucky charm’s head.

“This little missy lucked out and discovered a mineshaft. Did a little exploration there and the haul wasn’t bad at all! Ain’t that right, little missy?”

“Umu! Umu!” Xiao Shuling: praise me.jpg!

“Cool. Cool. Congratz!” Yu Zhiye felt happy for them and a little envy as well. He stared at the empty space above the little angel’s head and wonder if there’s actually a halo there. Why is she so lucky?!

Of course, any envy didn’t last long because… the capitalist always gets a share of the profits!

A chest casket thumped onto the sand and Jack boldly showed off their gains.

“Aside from the seeds, ingots, bread, and enchanted book we found in a chest, there’s also a bunch of...er... string gained from breaking cobwebs and wood chopped from the support beams.”

“Oh right, we even found a damaged iron pick. Mining higher level ores like diamonds and emeralds should no longer be an issue!”

“Nice.” Yu Zhiye felt his startup mining company was finally taking off!

“If there’s anything here you want, just say the word! No need to be shy, Steve!”

Jack can’t wait to collect emeralds from his customer and Yu Zhiye similarly can’t wait to select what he needs!

“Hmm… string and wood. How much do you got?”

“16 units of string and 6 units of wood. The little missy collected them as we went, but we didn’t dare take too much wood lest it collapsed the tunnel.”

“Um… going by the village prices, does an emerald for 14 units of string sound fair?”

“Sounds bout right. We’ll take it. As for wood, that’s a bit short of 8, but we ain’t gonna shortchange you. How about we throw in the chest we found as well?”

“Sweet. I don’t want to take advantage of you. How about I take those melon and pumpkin seeds off your hands for another emerald?”

“Aight, be my guest! Ain’t nobody starting a farm in this desert without soil. Bwahaha!”

“Then let’s do that. Hmm… let’s clear our your inventory of cobblestone. Coal you can trade in yourself. As for bread… mind exchanging some for cooked fish?”

“Yeah? I’ll take it! Sheesh, having some fresh meat is better than stale bread any day! Bwahaha!”

“Aight, anything else you want, Steve? By the way, there were lots of rails. Did you need em? If you do, we’ll mine em next time.”

“What the heck am I supposed to do with rails? Build the Continental Railroad on sand?”

“Bwahaha! Got me there! Aight, then how about an Unbreakable II enchantment for your rod? The village anvil should work fine for these books if ya dare use it.”

Unbreakable – an enchantment that adds a probability that the durability won’t get reduce on use which essentially makes durability last longer.

For Yu Zhiye, that’s quite the tasteless enchantment since his infinity rod has the [Mending] enchantment.

Still, the [Unbreakable] enchantment might turn out to be quite useful if the fishing rod is used for other purposes, like reeling in mobs or for PvP in the future.

Alas… if it were before, Yu Zhiye might consider it.

Now? This enchantment book was redundant because the recent core upgrade to level four actually blessed all his fishing rods with an [Unbreakable I] effect!

“Mmm… no need. I’ve got plenty of fishing rods to spare now. Jack, you might as well put that enchantment on your iron pickaxe to let it last longer.”

“Yeah? Aight, that ain’t a bad idea. Who knows when we’ll find another iron pick… Aight, if there’s nothing else ya need, I’ll go for a quick village run before night hits!”

“Alright, I won’t keep you two.”

“Then I’ll catch ya later! Little missy, you coming along?”

“Eih! This miss gonna go wipe herself down! No peeking, big brother ehe”

Yu Zhiye rolled his eyes. “Go. Nobody will peek on a bean sprout like you.”

“Fuu?! What does that mean?! Eih! Big brother, meanie! Ling’er isn’t a child!”

“Bwahaha! It’s good to be young~ Sheesh, don’t glare at me like that little missy! Yeah, yeah, I’ll be on my way.”

The party split like that and each went to do their own things.

Obviously, Yu Zhiye went for another base run.

But unlike earlier where his core energy went bankrupt, now his balance hit 35 points! And 31 of those points came from the noon-to-night, triple-rod fishing run!

That’s crazy efficiency! At this rate, just three days and he’ll be able to upgrade his core again!

That is… if he doesn’t spend on anything else.

“Um… should I save for the next core advancement or invest my core energy into that new construction foundation?”

Either choice has pros and cons.

Unlocking new buildings meant new functions and perhaps a ticket to speed up his progress. Yet there’s a chance that the building will sit there temporarily useless.

On the other hand, saving for that core level five milestone was something that must be done sooner or later.

However, taking this path meant his core energy will sit there mostly unused for a few days…

“Decisions, decisions… which choice will lead to greater progress?”

Focus on immediate priorities, a game of patience, or a blend of both? What will you choose?
