The mysterious axe imprint plunged from the heavens and ripped open a spatial fissure that pierced deep into the ancient tree.
A thunderous detonation followed as an opening three meters wide burst across the trunk. Liu Wuxie shot through it without the slightest hesitation.
The gate sealed itself the instant Liu Wuxie entered, severing every connection to the outside world. Regeneration was the wood element's greatest strength, making it difficult to force the gate open from the outside.
The Ghostswift Vines pursuing Liu Wuxie crashed against the ancient tree, unable to reach him. At the same time, the monstrous tendril hanging in the sky began unraveling into countless individual vines that descended to the ground.
Even the areas scorched by heartfire swiftly recovered. Fresh Ghostswift Vines sprouted from the earth, erasing every trace of the battle as though nothing had occurred.
"He actually got through!"
Everyone exchanged stunned looks.
"He made it through again," Jiang Hongran said, his unease deepening by the moment.
From the outset, Jiang Hongran had opposed turning Liu Wuxie into an enemy. After everything that had transpired, however, he knew that they had passed the point of no return.
Bitterness spread across Wei Wenbin's face. He hadn't anticipated that Liu Wuxie would survive such a deadly pincer attack and escape both the monstrous tendril and their immortal arts. Any other peak Profound Immortal in the same position would have died long ago.
Shen Can's face grew even darker as murderous intent erupted from his body. The pressure forced Shen Mo and Shen Bing to retreat instinctively by one step.
The surrounding cultivators unconsciously turned toward Shen Can. They had watched him unleash one treacherous immortal art after another, yet even he had failed to kill Liu Wuxie. No one there desired Liu Wuxie's death more fiercely than Shen Can.
Dozens of Shen Clan disciples had already died at Liu Wuxie's hands. Anyone in Shen Can's position would have found such a blood feud impossible to let go of.
Meanwhile, the forces surrounding the Zhu Clan continued expanding, while the Shen Clan remained motionless.
After reorganizing its ranks, Zhu Li's group had grown to five or six hundred cultivators. United beneath one banner, they formed a formidable force that no one dared underestimate.
The other experts also began assembling groups of their own. Every one of them knew that breaking through the Ghostswift Vines alone was impossible.
......
Meanwhile, an unexpected lightness swept through Liu Wuxie as he descended smoothly from the sky. An ink-green sky greeted him, nearly hidden behind countless pale-green leaves that filled the Liver Palace.
"What an unbelievably enormous tree!" Liu Wuxie exclaimed.
No one could have imagined that another tree stood within the ancient tree. This inner tree differed entirely from the one outside. Its trunk was far less massive, and glittering beads of dew adorned its leaves like scattered pearls.
When Liu Wuxie examined the leaves more carefully, he discovered strange patterns covering their surfaces, each radiating an ancient aura.
"Desolate Wood! This is actually a Desolate Wood!" Liu Wuxie murmured. He inhaled deeply, drawing boundless wood-attribute energy toward him from every direction.
The Desolate Wood had come into existence during an ancient era, around the same age as the Ancestral Tree. Although it was not quite as old as the Ancestral Tree, there wasn't much difference between them.
The Desolate Wood seemed to sense the Ancestral Tree's aura. Its leaves began rustling gently and scattered the dew clinging to their surfaces. Countless droplets fell across Liu Wuxie's body, and several landed upon his face before trickling toward the corners of his mouth, carrying a delicate fragrance into his nose.
Liu Wuxie licked away one droplet and felt as though he had tasted the finest celestial nectar. The instant it touched his tongue, every taste bud awakened, filling him with a pleasure surpassing even the rarest delicacies. Astonishingly concentrated wood-attribute energy permeated each drop of dew.
"These must be the legendary Crystal Glaze Beads!" Liu Wuxie exclaimed, extending his hand toward the falling dew. The droplets gathered before him and merged into a flowing stream.
The supreme effect of the Crystal Glaze Beads was to cleanse the body.
Tens of thousands of years ago, an ordinary woodcutter in the celestial realm had discovered dew clinging to a tree while suffering from unbearable thirst. Without considering the matter deeply, he collected the dew and drank it. Who could have expected an ordinary mortal to ascend immediately to the Divine Immortal Realm?
The story was clearly exaggerated, but it still demonstrated the extraordinary nature of the Crystal Glaze Beads.
Liu Wuxie swallowed the streams before him in enormous gulps and allowed them to merge directly with his body. His thirty immortal spirit roots immediately awakened and began absorbing the Crystal Glaze Beads. Their nourishment caused the roots, already as thick as human arms, to grow at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Within the blink of an eye, another ten immortal spirit roots emerged, each overflowing with dense spirituality.
The Crystal Glaze Beads began remolding Liu Wuxie's physique, triggering a tremendous transformation throughout his body. Some of their energy entered the Desolate World and gradually cleared its muddied atmosphere.
Countless different energies filled the Desolate World, which was still undergoing gestation and therefore remained turbid and indistinct. Liu Wuxie estimated that those energies would require another three to five years to mature fully.
Under the Crystal Glaze Beads' transformation, the Desolate World resembled parched earth finally receiving rain after a prolonged drought. At the same time, black impurities began oozing from Liu Wuxie's body.
Theoretically, Liu Wuxie should have possessed a body free of impurities after entering the Spirit Immortal Realm. Recently, however, he had devoured vast quantities of immortal stones containing tremendous amounts of impurities. The Sky Devouring Divine Cauldron had filtered away most of them, but a considerable portion had still accumulated inside him.
Had the Crystal Glaze Beads merely remolded his physique, Liu Wuxie would not have felt so astonished. What truly amazed him was the evolution taking place within his immortal energy. Beyond transforming his physique, the Crystal Glaze Beads could purify immortal energy and refine the laws.
The immortal energy within the Desolate World became increasingly pure, while its laws grew ever more refined. The entire realm appeared to undergo a complete rebirth beneath that transformation.
Liu Wuxie closed his eyes and quietly immersed himself in understanding the changes within his body. The Liver Palace differed considerably from the other organs. Even after he entered it, the Ghostswift Vines outside had weakened only slightly.
Among the five elements, wood possessed unmatched healing and regenerative abilities. Even when the Ghostswift Vines suffered destruction, they could swiftly regenerate and grow anew.
Zhu Li and his group assaulted the Ghostswift Vines several times, but every attempt failed. After losing more than a dozen cultivators, they had no choice but to retreat beyond the vines' reach.
"Are we supposed to stand here and watch Liu Wuxie take the Divine Wood Core before we can even enter?" Many cultivators roared in frustration, shaking their fists as they wished they could rush inside and hack Liu Wuxie apart.
"What choice do we have? Until Liu Wuxie takes the Divine Wood Core, the Ghostswift Vines can continue drawing upon an endless reserve of energy. We can't possibly force our way through," an elder from the Stormcloud Sect said with a weary sigh.
By this point, they had lost all strength to resent Liu Wuxie.
......
Time crawled past. After fifteen minutes, Liu Wuxie's eyes abruptly opened, and his divine sense sank into his body. Examining the changes forced him to draw a sharp breath. His insides gleamed like polished mirrors, without a single speck of impurity remaining.
"So this is the true origin of the name Crystal Glazed Beads," Liu Wuxie murmured.
The Crystal Glazed Beads had transformed not only Liu Wuxie's body but also his state of mind. His thoughts flowed with exceptional clarity, free of every obstruction. His entire body now resembled a flawless crystal emanating a faint luster, and the wondrous sensation nearly drew a groan from his lips.
Even the blood flowing through his veins resembled a transparent liquid. It had not truly become transparent; rather, the Crystal Glazed Beads had purged every trace of impurity from it.
The Crystal Glazed Beads' nourishment made the Ancestral Tree more vibrant than ever. Rivers throughout the Desolate World turned clearer, trees deepened into greener shades, the seas became a richer blue, and the mountains rose with greater majesty.
When Liu Wuxie's divine sense entered his soul sea, astonishment seized him once again. The Crystal Glazed Beads had transformed his soul sea along with his physical body.
Faint radiance poured from the Heavenly Dao Book and spread outward like a surging tide. Every black blemish that had once stained Liu Wuxie's primordial spirit had disappeared beneath the Crystal Glazed Beads' cleansing power, while his soul energy had undergone a profound transformation.
In truth, the soul sea was the filthiest region within any person. Liu Wuxie had always followed his heart and sought to preserve a clear conscience, yet even he would never claim that his soul was the purest in the world.
The Crystal Glazed Beads had not merely cleansed Liu Wuxie's soul sea. They had elevated his soul itself, leaving him with the strange sensation that he could almost extend his hand and touch the edge of the sky.
Liu Wuxie examined his upper dantian next. His mental energy had become considerably purer, while the crystalline walls surrounding his upper dantian had transformed as well. Mysterious runes now covered their surfaces and made them far more resilient than before.
The Crystal Glazed Beads had tempered Liu Wuxie from the inside out, transforming him so profoundly that he seemed to have undergone a complete rebirth.
Liu Wuxie slowly exhaled a stream of turbid air, which twisted into a vortex before him.
"Isn't that an ability belonging to a Golden Immortal?"
Strange light flickered through his eyes. His physique had become far stronger than anticipated, and by cultivation standards, it would rival the Profound Immortal Realm.
Against a low-level Profound Immortal, Liu Wuxie's physical strength alone would now be enough to kill them with one blow.
Liu Wuxie withdrew his attention from the transformations inside his body and looked toward the Desolate Wood. He still had not obtained the Divine Wood Core.
He had completely absorbed the Crystal Glazed Beads from the Desolate Wood, and countless years would likely pass before another collection of dew could form.
Ghost Pupil penetrated deep into the Desolate Wood and swiftly located the Divine Wood Core. Liu Wuxie didn't want to damage the Desolate Wood, however. Instead, he summoned the Ancestral Tree and sent it into the depths of the Desolate Wood to absorb the Divine Wood Core, intending to complete his breakthrough there.
An enormous tendril from the Ancestral Tree emerged in answer to his summons. Then a bizarre sight unfolded. The Desolate Wood showed no resistance whatsoever. Rather than offering any resistance, the Desolate Wood extended countless branches toward the tendril, intertwining with it like two lovers locked in an embrace.
The branches gradually wound together as the Ancestral Tree burrowed deeper into the Desolate Wood and steadily approached the Divine Wood Core.
Liu Wuxie sat cross-legged and summoned Blackie to stand guard, ensuring no one would interrupt him.
The battle outside intensified, yet Zhu Li still refused to surrender and launched several additional assaults. The weakened Ghostswift Vines allowed his forces to advance several dozen meters, but the monstrous tendril soon drove them back again and claimed several more lives. Several Zhu Clan disciples also died in the process.
At last, the Ancestral Tree's tendril connected with the Divine Wood Core. Waves of wood-attribute energy poured from it and flowed directly into the desolate world.
As Liu Wuxie circulated the Desolate Devouring Art, the surrounding immortal energy surged toward him like a tidal wave. Several thousand crystals condensed during the process, and the sight immediately brightened Blackie's eyes. With so many crystals appearing, hunger no longer concerned it.
The ancient tree outside began swaying as it drew immortal energy from the Liver Palace and transmitted that power into the Desolate Wood. Ultimately, every trace of that energy flowed toward Liu Wuxie.
