After Lawrence Winters resigned and returned home, he first went to the hospital to talk with Gabrielle Winters and Nick Zeller about his situation.
"Mom, Dad, I quit my job today." He sat between them with a cheerful smile, holding Gabrielle’s hand in one and Nick’s in the other, "From now on, I’m officially part of the ’living off the parents’ club!"
Gabrielle chuckled, gently tapping his forehead, "What nonsense are you talking about? Even if you don’t work, our family can support you. But do you really not want to work anymore? I thought you were quite happy at that company."
"Yeah, I was happy. But in the end, it’s someone else’s company. No matter how well I do, I’m still exploited for surplus value." Lawrence joked, "So I decided to work for myself! To earn my own surplus value!"
"That’s not a bad idea either." Nick was supportive, "It’s good to go out and see the world, learn what other companies are like, and then come back and work for yourself, it’ll be twice the result with half the effort. I’ll hand over the Great Heavenly Master Office to you. Your mom and I need to take care of your master-grandfather recently. I’ve put off many things, so having you back is great. Otherwise, we’d be running on empty."
"Is it that serious?" Gabrielle shot Nick a glance, "I’m the most familiar with our financial situation. Even if we stopped everything, we wouldn’t run on empty!"
"Hahaha... Mom, you just don’t understand. When have we ever had too much money? Right, Dad?" Lawrence winked at Nick.
The two of them love counting money. They aren’t really short on it, nor do they live extravagantly, but they just enjoy the process of counting.
Nick nodded with a satisfied grin, "Exactly. So go ahead and do your thing! Having something to keep you busy makes time fly."
Then he remembered something and added, "Oh, those guys who hit your master-grandfather, what did they say? Who sent them?"
"Competitors, who else?" Lawrence downplayed it intentionally, not mentioning the Grant Branch folks overseas.
Nick instinctively assumed it was domestic competitors, and sneered, "These people have guts! Our Zeller Branch has been well-behaved for over twenty years, and they think we’re easy targets!"
"Exactly. If you don’t stir things up, people start to itch and mess with you." Lawrence smirked, "Who doesn’t know how to cause trouble? I think they’ve had it easy for too long and forgot who the real boss of the Celestial Master Sect is!"
"That’s my daughter for you, amazing!" Nick gave him a thumbs up, "But take it easy for now, it’s just you alone, no helpers. Start small. Once your master-grandfather recovers and I’ve got time, we’ll deal with those bastards together!"
"Sure thing! Mom and Dad, take good care of master-grandfather and don’t worry about me. I’m all grown up now and can work on my own." Lawrence said with a bright smile as he stood up, "Aaron is also busy lately, no time to cook. I’ve already arranged with a restaurant to deliver meals regularly. Sometimes I might travel for work to do feng shui, so no need to worry."
He was laying the groundwork, so if he disappeared for a week or two, Gabrielle and Nick wouldn’t get suspicious.
Just as he finished speaking, a weak sound came from the hospital bed.
The three of them turned to see the old Daoist’s hand weakly lifting up.
"Master-grandfather is awake!" Lawrence felt a surge of joy as he rushed over.
The old Daoist on the hospital bed had opened his eyes and, seeing Lawrence’s unabashedly ecstatic expression, slightly curved his lips and said weakly, "...Lawrence."
"Master-grandfather! You’re awake, this is wonderful! I knew today was an auspicious day for decisions! Hahaha!" Lawrence beamed with joy.
Nick and Gabrielle also hurried over.
They stood by the bedside, looking at the finally awakened old Daoist, almost moved to tears.
"Master! You’re finally awake!"
"Old Immortal! Do you feel better? Anything uncomfortable? Should we call a doctor?"
The three of them busily buzzed around with joy, feeling reassured.
Lawrence felt even more that heaven was on his side.
Initially, he was a bit worried about his family.
If he stirred things up, he was afraid others would cut off his retreat and target his family.
Although the hospital here was relatively safe, nobody knew what the opposition might do if pushed to extremes.
Now that the old Daoist woke up right now, it showed that his plan not only was feasible but also sanctioned by heaven and permitted by the ancestors of The Three Pure Ones!
