Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau
Chapter 858 - 429: Never Expected ThisChapter 858: Chapter 429: Never Expected This
Evan Stetford’s eyes flickered slightly as he looked at Lawrence Winters and said, "...Are you sure, Miss Winters?"
"I’m sure." Lawrence confidently nodded, reassuring Evan Stetford not to worry.
Evan Stetford thought of Lawrence Winters’ abilities and wanted to give her a chance. He nodded, "Okay, then we’ll do as Miss Winters says. But, you should best come with us to our Stetford Family company headquarters."
Lawrence Winters intentionally stayed at a Stetford Family property, waiting to meet Evan Stetford.
But she didn’t expect Evan Stetford to come so soon.
She thought it would take a few days with reports being made step-by-step before reaching Evan Stetford.
Evan Stetford wouldn’t say it, but after coming back to take over the Stetford Family business, many from within the ranks and the Grant Branch were quite discontent and ready to cause trouble.
The situation with Lawrence Winters was likely the result of those people colluding with each other, planning to kill two birds with one stone.
They aimed to deal with the "domestic Female Wizard" audacious enough to challenge the Grant Branch’s authority, while making Evan Stetford stumble, deterring him from touching the Grant Branch’s interests.
Of course, man proposes, but God disposes. Lawrence Winters’ luck was far from ordinary.
She had Evan Stetford send someone to carry out her large suitcase, then she slung her bag over her shoulder, donned sunglasses and a mask, and exited her room with Evan Stetford.
Those from the Grant Branch were already under tight surveillance by Evan Stetford’s people, not allowed to make any moves.
These people were brought together in several cars to the Stetford Tower.
Evan Stetford took Lawrence Winters directly to the top floor in the CEO’s exclusive elevator.
There, Evan Stetford had a few girls brought in who were about the same age as Lawrence Winters.
Lawrence Winters then selected a few who matched her height and personally started dressing them up.
She dressed these girls in outfits she previously wore that were quite plain and unsophisticated.
Because this was how she looked when she was setting up shop on Fortune-teller Street; after washing off makeup, people there had never seen her.
The ones who’d seen her were only the few people tonight.
And those people were already under Evan Stetford’s watch.
She was certain that the shooter hadn’t seen her real face.
He should’ve only seen her photo or observed her from a distance among the crowd on Fortune-teller Street.
Lawrence Winters spent ten minutes transforming those originally beautiful and stylish girls into small-town girls from the domestic eighteenth-ranked counties, or forty years ago’s most fashionable outfits, along with one dressed as a high school graduate in sportswear.
These outfits, provided from her collection, were all packed in the large suitcase brought along.
Evan Stetford’s lip twitched slightly as he watched.
Though when he saw the simple small-town dress, Evan Stetford paused slightly.
He looked at Lawrence Winters, "...Did you wear this? Two nights ago, in the district near ’Gilbert Family Cuisine’?"
Lawrence Winters nodded, "Wore it, yeah. I had arrived recently and went there for dinner."
Evan Stetford suddenly understood.
While listening to ’Thousands of Songs’ and reminiscing about Lawrence Winters, the girl he saw with a silhouette resembling hers was really her.
But he said nothing, simply smiled and asked, "Where did you find these clothes? They could be in a museum, right?"
"They’re my personal collection." Lawrence made a playful face at him.
In the past, she and Nick Zeller explored small towns for Feng Shui, collecting these outfits there.
Evan Stetford asked no more but had the shooter brought in.
In a one-way glass room, Evan Stetford asked those girls to stand in a row for the shooter to identify who "dealt" with him through the glass wall.
The shooter was already prepared, looking through the glass wall for a while, pointing at the girl with slightly dark skin, wearing a plain shirt and trousers, green rubber-soled shoes, and carrying a green cross-body bag, saying, "It’s her!"
Originally, Lawrence Winters intended to stand with them, but Evan Stetford persistently disagreed and only let her stay beside him.
As the shooter decisively identified the "domestic Female Wizard," Lawrence Winters’ lips curled upwards.
Evan Stetford’s people once again sought confirmation from the shooter, "This place is under surveillance. Your every word and action will be recorded. Now, say once again, who is the domestic Female Wizard who bribed you with whatever means to assassinate Maria?"
In reality, the shooter hadn’t seen Lawrence Winters, but had seen her photos.
The person hiring him captured videos and photos of Lawrence Winters with various appearances while setting up on Fortune-teller Street; he had memorized them thoroughly.
